My Goalkeeping System

Chapter 236 My Goal Is Different

"That was a very long walk." The goalkeeper said before opening the door to his house.

He took off his running boots and threw them to the side before turning his gaze to the already set up table in the dining area.

"She must have already left for work." He muttered as he made his way to the table and when he got closer, he discovered that something wasn't exactly right. "She never leaves the food open like this before leaving, she must still be here then."

He made his way upstairs and to the room where he found her fast asleep on the bed.

"Why would she go back to bed after making breakfast?"

He made his way to the cupboard beside the bed and picked up his phone to see that the time was 8:11 AM.

"That's strange, doesn't she plan on going to work today?" He said before slowly sitting beside her.

<She said she had to get to work early today, so it's odd to find her sleeping here by this time, something must be wrong, check her body temperature>

"We don't have a thermometer here but I can use my body to check if she's burning up, she doesn't look that good." He said before he slowly placed the back of his hand on her neck. "Her temperature is slightly higher but that happens to people a lot of times and randomly."

<Her temperature may still be going up, that's how fevers work, I think it's clear now that she isn't okay>

"Hey, Emma." He said before tapping her softly on her forehead.

There was no response from her but after a few more taps on her forehead, she slowly began to open her eyes.

Her vision was blurry when she opened her eyes but after blinking thrice, she could clearly see who was sitting beside her.

"Oh, it's you." She smiled before slowly placing her hand on his left cheek.

"Yeah." Dave smiled back at her. "You're running late for work."

As soon as those words got transmitted into her ears, she quickly sprang up on the bed before jumping down from it.

"What time is it?" She asked abruptly.

'For someone who we thought wasn't okay, she's gone hyperactive quickly.'

"What is the time, Dave!"

The goalkeeper was startled by her suddenly yelling at him and had to quickly raise his phone to check the time.

"8:17." He replied.

"8:17?" She said with a stunned look on her face before quickly making her way to the wardrobe area and before the goalkeeper knew it, she returned with her towel tied around her body. "If I can just be fast enough and have you drive me to work, I'll get there just on time."

Dave wanted to say something but before he could open his mouth, she had already fled the room.

He stared at the exit for a while before letting out a deep sigh.

'I thought she was supposed to be sick or something.'

<I guess my evaluation was wrong>

_______ ________

The hallway was pretty quiet as the goalkeeper walked through it with both of his hands in his pockets, the hallway was quiet because the staff were on a lunch break but they were still a few of them around and almost all of them waved toward the goalkeeper happily as he walked past them and he was happy to return the waves with a smile on his face.

'It really feels good to be loved and respected.'

He expected Catherine to say something after saying that, but there was no response from her.

He continued walking through the hallway until he got to his destination.

Right now, he was standing in front of a door with a white tag placed on it, and on that tag was written the word 'President.'

He stared at the door for a while and took a deep breath before opening it.

He entered the office to find his father sitting on the couch by the side with a glass of wine in his hand.

"I didn't expect you to get here this early," Tom said with a smile on his face.

"Hey, Dad." He said before walking closer to him.

"How're you doing, Dave?"

"I'm okay."

"And your wife?"

"She seemed sort of wonky today but she's okay." He replied.

Tom smiled at him before taking a sip from his glass of wine.

"You know I never thought you would get married so early, I just wish your mother was here to see the fine young man you've grown into."

"You don't have to talk about mom every time we discuss something, dad." The goalkeeper said.

"I know, but I just can't help it," Tom said. "Why don't you have a seat?"

Dave sat beside him on the couch and watched him finish his glass of wine before dropping the empty glass on top of the small table in front of him.

After that, he cleared his throat before turning his gaze to his son.

"I called you here to hear your thoughts about extending your contract for one more year, the official meeting and decision will be made on Saturday, that is if you agree to extend your contract."

"You're doing this so that I don't leave as a free agent next season, right?" The goalkeeper asked.

"Yeah," Tom replied.

"But are you aware that I want to leave the club next season?"

"I had the feeling that you would feel that way, but you don't have to leave as a free agent. If you perform well in the League this season and we break through the qualifiers in the conference and you also perform well in the competition, your market value is going to rise pretty well, the transfer money will help the club in a lot of ways especially in getting a replacement for you." Tom expressed.

'My market value has already risen unexpectedly recently, I wonder how much it will rise after all that.'

"So, you're saying that you'll let me go if I want to leave." The goalkeeper said. He was quite surprised.Read lat𝙚st chapters at nov(𝒆)lbin.com Only

"Yeah, if you want to leave, I'll find a way to make it happen but you should know that we'll be entitled to accept the club with the highest bid."

"Club with the highest bid, okay, as long as the club is in any of Europe's top five leagues." The goalkeeper said.

"Europe's top five leagues, I see, you want to go to any of those leagues but which one do you want to go to the most?"

"I think I like Laliga better but the English Premier League is a pretty awesome league." He replied.

"I guess you're different from him then," Tom said.

"Huh?"

"My father, your grandfather," Tom said. "He wanted nothing more than to play for Unique FC and he went down as a legend of the club."

"That was grandpa's choice, his goal was to go down as a legend of the club but my goal is a lot different." He said before getting up from the couch. "I have to get going now, dad."

He made his way to the door and opened it before turning back to face father.

"Don't worry, dad, I'll make sure to leave my mark on the club before leaving and if I don't succeed, then I'll make sure to come back and do it." He said before closing the door.
