Yao Family was astounded. How could He Family even suggest such a thing?

What kind of peace did she mean?
She would never reconcile with those three in her whole life!
Yao Family retorted: “So, you think you didn’t sell me hard enough, now you’re planning to sell sister Xin as well?”
He Family insisted: “Sister Xin herself is willing!”
Yao Family burst into incredulous laughter: “Her aunt is bullied to this extent, yet she’s eager to marry the culprit? Sister-in-law, is this how you raised your child?”
He Family blanched at Yao Family’s words. “Sister, ever since you made a big success, you’ve completely forgotten where you came from. If it wasn’t for our intervention, you wouldn’t be living such a comfortable and luxurious life. Even though you’ve been ignoring your birth family, we’ve never badmouthed you at all. Where else can you find such a good birth family? Now, your very own niece wants to get married, and you rather let a stranger take her instead of taking her back home. Why? Can’t bear to see us live a better life than you?”
Yao Family sneered. “How does my sister-in-law know if she’ll lead a better life once she enters the Marquis Residence?”
He Family lifted her chin: “Our sister Xin is gentle, sensible and knows how to behave. Both her husband and her mother-in-law will surely like her.”
In the past, Yao Family would argue with her to clarify everything, but she gradually realized that some people are unreceptive to reason.
They only stick to their own beliefs.
She didn’t care about the hardships Yao Family had experienced in the Marquis Residence all these years. Bottom line – she was selfish.
Yao Family rose and prepared to leave.
Seeing Yao Family upset, He Family quickly intercepted her and apologized. “I didn’t mean that, don’t misinterpret it. I misspoke, please be generous and do not take it to heart.”
Yao Family retorted: “I have no say in the Marquis Residence’s marital affairs.”
Even if she did, they wouldn’t value her opinion.
He Family: “At least bring sister Xin to the residence to meet them. Who knows? They might just take a liking to her.”
Yao Family: “Which one are you hoping will take a liking to her? The heir?”
He Family continued to smile. “If the heir took a liking to her, that would be the best case scenario…”
Yao Family was flabbergasted.
She actually wanted to marry Yao Xin off to the heir of the Marquis Residence?
She must be dreaming.
Upon seeing Yao Family’s stunned face, a flustered He Family suggested, “Perhaps the second young master… or the third young master? He should be a suitable match, right?”
Yao Family coldly responded, “Since when did it become Yao Family’s turn to pick and choose amongst the sons of the Marquis Residence?”
She wasn’t defending her stepsons, but their social statuses were incompatible. She was despised and belittled by Madam Gu for even being a concubine. How could Yao Xin become a first wife?
Was this meant to aid her or make Madam Gu detest her even more?
He Family’s temper flared. “Didn’t you also marry into the Marquis Residence? You even had a prior engagement, unlike our innocent sister Xin! The Marquis could see past your faults in the past. Why wouldn’t the heir see past sister Xin’s? Is her face any less pretty than yours?”
Implying she was not innocent, that she used her looks to attract men, and willingly entered the Marquis Residence…
So, all of this was well and good.
Yao Family took a deep breath, asking, “Are these your intentions, or our mother’s?”
He Family remained silent.
Of course, both she and her mother-in-law had the same intentions – though the mother-in-law didn’t want it to be revealed.
But Yao Family now understood everything.
Change?
It was she who was naive.
She was supposed to return to the Marquis Residence after dinner, but Yao Family couldn’t bear to remain there any longer.
“Jiaojiao, let’s go back to the Residence,” Yao Family said to Gu Jiao as she entered her room.
