The Last High Elf.

The weight of that name is certainly not light.
In fact, it’s heavier than gold.
Even I, who know little about elves, am astonished by its significance; imagine how much more so for elves.

Ray and I immediately realized why Elowen had acted so humbly towards Leif.
It meant there was a survivor of the royal family encompassing an entire race, one that is fundamentally tied to the truth of the elven monarchy.
If I were to hear that a lineage that had once sat upon a golden throne, such as that of the human emperor, still had survivors, I would be just as shocked.

“Does that mean Leif is, like, an elf princess?”

Ray stumbled over her words, questioning.
Leif pondered for a moment before slowly shaking her head.

“Essentially, the era where High Elves were the ruling class has ended. Moreover, High Elves are more akin to the priestly class than royalty.”

In fact, the ones who truly governed the elves were not the High Elves, but the direct elves below them.@@novelbin@@

It’s easy to think in terms of a caste system.
Just as the royalty weren’t at the top of the first caste, the priests were. Similarly, the elves placed the High Elves, who performed the roles of priests in their social hierarchy, at the top, while the actual rulers were in the second caste.
