Chapter 947 She's A Good One
I watched as that Off-Worlder directed her summoned beasts to trample on the camp until it was completely flattened, leaving nothing left standing.
In the meantime, Katsuki was helping my Shadow Guards clean up the remaining stragglers who had run off in the other direction, making sure that all the bandits were either captured or dead.
I suppose I should just initiate contact with her?
I stepped out from the shadow of the trees and into the clearing, prompting the Trasif with the fairy features to spin around to regard me.
"Oh? I even gave you the chance to run away and you still came back?" She mused, her arms spreading out to summon even more light shards in front of her.@@novelbin@@
I raised my hand, "Hold on, I'm on your side. I came here to deal with the bandits as well."
She did not lower her hands, though the light shards also did not change into beasts either.
"Really? How can you prove that you are not one of them then?"
"If I was one of them, do you think I would really just appear here?"
"Hmm… You could be just misleading me? Making me drop my guard and then get close to me to attack me?"
I guess the easiest way is through a show of force…
I pointed my finger at her and a [Laser] shot out from my hand, piercing through the space directly beside her head.
She stood completely still, her eyes going wide before slowly shifting down to look at my finger that shot the deadly light.
"If I wanted to kill you, I don't need you to lower your guard before I do it. Is that proof enough that I am on your side? Seeing that I didn't just kill you while you still didn't know I was here?"
The Off-Worlder grimaced, "Fair point…"
She then waved her hand and the light shards disappeared before giving me a nod, indicating that she wasn't going to attack me anymore.
I stepped closer to her and decided to just get straight to the point, "So what are you doing here?"
"Well, what does it look like? Hunting bandits and cleaning up the place of course."
"But why?"
"I would like to first know what you are doing here as well? It can't be a coincidence that you just strolled through the forest and stumbled into me dealing with them, right?"
I nodded, "It was indeed not a coincidence that I am here. There were members of this bandit group that had just attacked a camp not far from here and I came here to finish them off. I had been preparing to attack them when you suddenly appeared."
She placed her hands on her hips and thrust out her chest, "Well, no need to thank me! I'm just doing my part to make this world a safer place!"
"There's just one problem though," I continued, gesturing to the place where the bandit camp used to be. "You didn't make sure that they could not escape."
She raised an eyebrow at me, "That was kind of the plan though? I didn't want to kill everyone so those who choose to retreat can live. If they stay and fight, then I will have no mercy for them."
"Yeah… That's the problem you see… Letting them go only lets them create even more bandit groups in the future… So you either kill them all or capture them and make sure no one runs away."
Her expression changed into one of surprise, "Eh? Wait… Even though they get beaten that badly, they still want to continue being a bandit?"
I shrugged, "That's how it is. You have been going around destroying bandit groups, haven't you?"
"That's right. This would have been my twelfth group that I would have dispersed by the way."
"Well… Do you not wonder why there are so many bandits as compared to normal?
"I… I admit that thought never crossed my mind… I just thought that this was simply a bigger camp and that's it."
"The bandits that you have let go from the other raids you did have gathered to form this group with the other remaining bandits around the area."
"Eh? Wait… Really?"
I nodded, "That's right. And because of that, they launched a large-scale raid on a clearing that most travellers use as a rest stop which, under normal circumstances, these bandits would not even think about trying."
"But… Why would they make an even bigger group?"
I gestured at her, "Because you've been hunting them so the remainder got scared and thought that they would have a better chance of survival if they grouped up instead."
She then let out a gasp, "Oh no! I let quite a number of them run away!" Enjoy exclusive chapters from My Virtual Library Empire
I waved at her, "No need to worry. While you were still wrecking the place, I went ahead to capture the ones who tried to run away and gathered them inside the forest, so no one escaped."
She let out a sigh of relief, "Oh good. I was worried that I may be unknowingly making even more bandits or something…"
She speaks as if the bandits are breeding amongst themselves or something… But I guess I shouldn't comment on that…
She looked at me again, "So what now? Did I accidentally steal your prey or something? Did I get you in trouble?"
"Not really but… I would like to know why you're going around hunting bandits in the first place?"
"Hmm? Do I need a reason to be cleaning up trash? All these people are trash, aren't they?"
"And what is your definition of that?"
She placed her hands on her hips and huffed, her wings behind her back fluttering slightly, "Hmph! There's already legal slavers around who help people that are down on their luck find a new chance at life by serving someone who would be able to take care of them. Yet these illegal slavers go around raiding people to force them into slavery or even just rob and kill instead of getting a proper job! These people are the reason why we can't advance as a society! That's why I took it upon myself to help clean up the world!"
Oh wow, so she already knows about the common sense of this World. That's pretty rare.
She then nodded at me, "What about you? Are you one of those Mercenaries that was protecting the travellers like you said? Wait, you just scolded me for attacking this camp by myself and allowing them to escape but aren't you alone as well?"
I gestured towards the trees and Katsuki appeared from the darkness to join me by my side.
"There are also others hiding in the tree line and they're taking the captured bandits back right now."
She pointed a finger at Katsuki, "Is that… A maid? Oh my god, that is a maid. There's a maid here."
I turned to Katsuki who was also looking back at me before looking back at the Off-Worlder.
"Err… Yes, she is my maid… Why?"
"Are you like… A noble?"
I reached up to check that I still had my mask on my face before nodding at her, "That is correct, I am from a noble family within the Kingdom."
"Ohhh~ Do I need to bow or something? This is my first time meeting a noble to be honest."
"Ah, there's no need for that. I'm not one of those kinds of people who demand for attention all the time."
"That's cool, that's cool. So what happens now?" She asked, looking at the side where the bandit camp used to be.
I shrugged, "Nothing really. Though I guess I would recommend that if you want to continue dealing with these bandits, make sure to either kill all of them or capture them to hand them over to the guards instead of letting them run away."
She gave a mock salute, "Don't worry! I'll do just that! Oh, I can't believe I didn't introduce myself yet! I'm Natan Star! Well met!"
I did a curtsy, "Well met, Natan, although you would have to forgive me for not giving my name as my identity is meant to be kept secret right now. But I suppose if you require a name, I am the young mistress of the Nilm Family."
"Oh~ That makes you Lady Nilm, doesn't it? Cool, cool. In that case, you don't mind if I just take the stuff from these bandits right? Even if I'm doing this to root out the trash, I still need to eat."
I gestured towards the smashed camp, "Those are your kills anyway so those are your spoils of war in the first place. Go right ahead."
"Oh, nice~ I suppose I will see you around!" She waved at me enthusiastically.
I waved back before turning and leaving, Katsuki following just a small step behind me.
Not gonna lie, I wasn't expecting that kind of interaction with her when I approached her but I guess it's nice that there are Off-Worlders who are actually doing some good in this World I suppose?
What do you think?
