Chapter 988: Chapter 984: Back to Old Tricks, Transforming into a Little Devil
Moore saw Wen Xin and Mu Chengxi emerge from the central building and drove the car directly to the entrance. Mu Dong quickly got out of the car, opened the door for Wen Xin, and let her in.
Once Wen Xin was in the car, Moore drove off. Through the rearview mirror, he watched Wen Xin, noticing her pale complexion and guessed that she must not have come to an agreement with Alfredo.
“Little princess, are you sure you want to settle the matter with the Elders Guild today? Can’t you wait a bit longer?”
Hearing Moore’s words, Wen Xin lifted her head from her cellphone and looked through the rearview mirror, locking eyes with Moore.
“What do you mean by that? Wait for what? For a younger generation from those old fools’ families to succeed them? I don’t want to give them more chances to maneuver. You should know, I don’t have much time.”
From the day Wen Xin arrived at the Independent State, she had told Moore she wanted to handle all her affairs before the New Year, as she had other matters to deal with and not much time to spare.
Seeing the cold darkness in Wen Xin’s eyes, Moore knew his thoughts could in no way sway her decision. He averted his gaze and focused on driving seriously, heading towards a hotel.
Wen Xin looked down at her cellphone, paying no attention to the direction in which Moore was driving. Mu Chengxi and Mu Dong, unfamiliar with the Independent State, didn’t realize where Moore intended to take them.
The car slowly stopped outside the hotel. Wen Xin, hearing the sound of the car coming to a halt, slowly lifted her head and looked out of the window, frowning slightly at the sight of the hotel.
“Why are we here? Is it lunchtime? Are we eating?”
“No, the Elders Guild changed the location at the last minute. After the disappearance of the Second Elder, everyone was in turmoil, so the venue for the Elders Guild’s election was moved here, to this hotel.”
Moore looked at Wen Xin, his eyes somewhat apologetic as he spoke. In fact, he knew since the morning that the location of the Elders Guild’s election had changed and was also aware that they wanted to exclude Feng Qing, opting to simply inform Feng Qing of the results directly.@@novelbin@@
Wen Xin, sitting in the car, squinted at the hotel’s sign and let out a cold laugh.
“Are they afraid of encountering the same fate as the Second Elder, or are they afraid of the Old Fox? From their actions, it doesn’t look like they are concerned about the Second Elder’s safety but rather trying to ingratiate themselves with the Old Fox. Anyone with a bit of sense can see that.”
By arranging the Elders Guild’s election at an establishment owned by the Old Fox, it was clear what these people were thinking. It seemed the Old Fox’s tactic of killing the chicken to scare the monkeys had them frightened.
A bunch of cowards; it’s hard to imagine how they had ever managed to hold their influential positions in the Independent State. Truly, each generation is worse than the last…
Wen Xin pushed open the car door and got out, noticing a black Panamera parked next to their vehicle. At that moment, a man dressed in a suit looking very elegant stepped out.
Wen Xin watched him, her beautiful eyes unconsciously narrowing.
The man glanced casually at Wen Xin before quickly averting his eyes, not regarding Wen Xin with any significance, as if she were just another passerby.
Wen Xin leaned lazily against the car, her intention to walk straight in changing in that instant, as she stood still, seemingly in thought.
Mu Chengxi came around from the other side of the car, approached Wen Xin, and gently wrapped her in his arms. With a soft tone, he leaned close to her ear and asked in a hushed voice, “What’s wrong? Why aren’t you going in?”
Wen Xin wrapped her arms around Mu Chengxi’s waist from behind and rested her head on his shoulder, her voice muffled as she spoke, “What’s Feng Qing’s status in Independent State? To take a step back, if Feng Qing were dissatisfied with the Elders Guild’s decision and decided to make a move, would the Guild be afraid?”
Suddenly, Wen Xin changed her mind; she thought that directly affecting these people and playing them to their death wasn’t as fun as waiting for them to be cornered with no way out.
Hearing Wen Xin’s words, Mu Chengxi could roughly guess what she wanted to do. He reached out, pulled the car door open behind Wen Xin, and ushered her into the car.
“Get in the car first. Whatever it is, we can talk about it slowly when we get back,” he said gently, coaxing Wen Xin, who compliantly got into the car, quite susceptible to Mu Chengxi’s approach.
Wen Xin and Mu Chengxi getting back into the car surprised both Moore and Mu Dong; they had thought that Mu Chengxi would go straight in with Wen Xin.
“Little princess, why did you come back?” Moore turned excitedly in his seat to look at Wen Xin; he was eager to know why she hadn’t gone in.
“Suddenly, I don’t feel like going. Let’s go back to my villa,” she replied.
After some thought, Wen Xin figured that if she wanted to cause trouble in Independent State, hiding in Moore’s house wasn’t a good strategy. It might be better to reveal her identity outright and give the Old Fox a taste of the anxiety and fear of not being able to read the game.
Moore couldn’t fathom what Wen Xin was up to, but he had no right to oppose her decisions. He could only follow her lead, agreed with a nod, and drove away.
On the way back, Wen Xin’s phone suddenly vibrated. She looked at the message on the screen and squinted her pretty eyes in satisfaction.
She opened the message and replied with a series of license plate numbers, a sly smile curling up at the corner of her lips. They liked accidents and car crashes, didn’t they? Well, it was time they got a taste of their own medicine…
She was very curious to see how the Old Fox would react when his most beloved youngest son was in a car accident…
Wasn’t he a genius pianist? She wanted to see his arms crippled; she wanted to see if he could still be called a genius pianist without his hands.
Sitting beside Wen Xin, Mu Chengxi felt a chill as he turned his head towards her. He happened to catch her devilish smile and couldn’t help but look a few more times, thinking that his little ancestor was picking up her old ways of being a little devil once again.
However, Mu Chengxi did not ask what Wen Xin was planning; instead, he gently reached out and took her hand, which was resting on her thigh.
Wen Xin looked up at Mu Chengxi, her eyes questioning why he was suddenly acting like this…
Mu Chengxi’s deep eyes met Wen Xin’s bright ones; his fingers softly caressed the ring on her hand as he spoke in a calm and tender voice.
“Once we’ve settled everything in Independent State, let’s go back to Beijing to get our marriage license… I want to make you my lawful wife. Do you think that’s okay?”
No one expected Mu Chengxi to propose in the car, not even Wen Xin. Her hand, mid-reply to a message, froze in place as she stared at Mu Chengxi in disbelief, wondering if something was wrong with his brain…
What do you think?
