Chapter 991: Chapter 987: The Shadow Alliance was cleaned up by a group of mysterious people
Pushed away by Wen Xin, Mu Chengxi didn’t show any impatience; he remained persistent and slowly leaned in, gently kissing Wen Xin on the cheek.
“Do you need my help with anything?” Mu Chengxi’s one hand wrapped around Wen Xin’s waist as he propped himself up to look at her, eager to know if there was anything she needed assistance with.
Wen Xin raised an eyebrow at Mu Chengxi, a wicked smile playing on her lips, then flashed him a triumphant grin.
“No need, there’s no hurry to take action. Let the Wen family fall into chaos within first; there will still be time to act then.”
Wen Xin lazily leaned into Mu Chengxi’s embrace, and suddenly realized that some things didn’t necessarily require her own intervention; this feeling of reaping the benefits without effort was quite pleasant.
Just as Wen Xin and Mu Chengxi were locked in each other’s gaze, Yan Qing hurried into the room. He walked into the living room and saw the two nestled together, opened his mouth to say something but held back at the sight.
Seeing Yan Qing’s rushed entrance and his about-to-leave demeanor, Wen Xin slightly furrowed her brows, stood up from Mu Chengxi’s embrace, and spoke to Yan Qing in a gentle tone.
“Rushing in and out, is there something wrong? If there’s a matter, just speak up.”
Upon hearing Wen Xin, Yan Qing stopped in his tracks, turned around, and faced Wen Xin with a somewhat distressed expression.
“There’s been trouble with the Shadow Alliance. Just this morning, they were taken down by an unknown force; no one knows who those people are, only feeling that this move was a bit odd… Everyone is thinking whether it’s the work of the Chou League or…”
Listening to Yan Qing, Wen Xin slowly lifted her head to look at him, raised her eyebrows at Yan Qing, who hadn’t finished his sentence, but she already had a rough guess of what Yan Qing was about to say.
Wen Xin watched Yan Qing with a faint smile and then turned her head to Mu Chengxi, who was sitting leisurely on the sofa, and inquired with her eyes whether he was behind this.
Mu Chengxi met Wen Xin’s gaze, knew what she was thinking, and chuckled softly, shaking his head.
“I won’t take credit for this deed, it has nothing to do with me. Although I’ve thought about taking action, considering you haven’t made a move over these years, I naturally wouldn’t presume to take such measures without your consent.”
Mu Chengxi looked at Wen Xin earnestly as he spoke; he truly had considered taking care of the threats against Wen Xin before she dealt with the affairs in Independent State, but time simply didn’t permit. What he could do now was to stay by Wen Xin’s side to protect her—nothing else mattered.
When Wen Xin heard Mu Chengxi’s words, her face, previously holding a touch of jest, suddenly grew somber. She looked at Mu Chengxi seriously, trying to detect any sign of jest in his eyes.
Seeing the doubt in Wen Xin’s eyes, Mu Chengxi laughed somewhat helplessly. “Really, it wasn’t me. I’ve indeed thought about doing it, but because of the lack of time, I didn’t manage to do anything, and just figured out a way to rush over…”
As Mu Chengxi mentioned his solo flight here, he couldn’t bear to think back to Wen Xin leaving alone…
Wen Xin shifted her gaze away from Mu Chengxi, having a rough idea of what Mu Chengxi was thinking.
She looked up at Yan Qing, her shining eyes narrowed slightly. “There’s no way to find out? Can’t find out who’s behind this?”
“No, those people are strange, it’s like they appeared out of nowhere, completely baffling as to where they came from and what organization they belong to.”
Wen Xin furrowed his brows tightly after hearing Yan Qing’s words, not being able to think of who would carry out such a deed. Indeed, it was very strange.
“I’m going to make a call, to ask my godfather if it was his doing.”
With no one taking responsibility for the incident, Wen Xin felt there was something fishy about it and couldn’t help but associate it with Mr. Jiang.
But he couldn’t understand when Mr. Jiang had cultivated such a group of people. Could they have been trained to be Hidden Guards?
Wen Xin picked up the cellphone lying on the coffee table, stood up, and with the phone in hand, left the living room, heading towards the balcony.
On the other side, Old Fox Wen anxiously waited outside the operating room for news of Wen Moran. He never dreamed that Wen Moran would end up in a car accident.@@novelbin@@
Just as the Old Fox had no time for sorrow, a hurried assistant came in from outside, approaching Old Fox Wen. The assistant glanced at the Wen family members in the corridor waiting for surgery news, hesitated for a moment, and then whispered into Old Fox Wen’s ear in a deliberately low voice.
“Master, there has been a problem with the Shadow Alliance. The Shadow Alliance has been overtaken by an unknown force. The Fourth Young Master’s whereabouts are uncertain, we don’t know if he has escaped from the Shadow Alliance or has been captured…”
Hearing the assistant’s words, Old Fox Wen looked at the assistant in shock, completely unable to believe the news he had heard. For him, it was like a bolt from the blue – how could an entity like the Shadow Alliance be taken over by a new force?
“Are you telling the truth? You’re not joking with me, are you?”
The Old Fox gazed at the assistant with his sharp eyes in astonishment, his hand trembling involuntarily as he clutched his cane, seeking to verify the authenticity of the assistant’s words.
The assistant met the Old Fox’s gaze, not daring to be negligent for a moment. He nodded seriously and solemnly, affirming the truth of his words. There was absolutely no falsehood. He had already arranged for an investigation, which confirmed the reality of the situation.
Watching the assistant’s earnest nod, Old Fox Wen felt a searing pain in his chest. The Shadow Alliance was an organization he had painstakingly preserved in secrecy; why… why had it suddenly come to this?
Just then, the operating room door suddenly opened, and a doctor emerged. He spoke to Old Fox Wen and the Wen family members with great regret.
“I’m sorry, we’ve done everything we could, but the patient’s injuries were just too severe. When they arrived at our hospital, the patient had already lost breathing and heartbeat.”
“Despite an hour of resuscitation, we ultimately couldn’t save the patient’s life. We are sorry; we did our best.”
“If the family members wish to see the patient one last time, you may come in…”
After making things clear, the doctor turned and walked back into the operating room, leaving everyone in shock. For a moment, they did not know what to say or what they could say, standing frozen in place.
Old Fox stood there bewildered, and the assistant beside him, looking at the instantly aged figure of Old Fox, was speechless, not even knowing how to offer comfort.
As the assistant was about to say something, Old Fox’s eyes suddenly rolled back, and he collapsed onto the assistant.
What do you think?
