Chapter 993: Chapter 989: Really Interesting, Starting to Play with Tactics Now
“Including the truth about my parents’ death?”
Wen Xin looked at Butler Wen and scoffed coldly; she had already guessed what he wanted to say.
Butler Wen stiffened upon hearing Wen Xin’s words, looking at her somewhat shocked, as if he hadn’t expected her to have truly guessed what had happened in the past.
Wen Xin leaned casually on the sofa, her gaze cold as she looked at Butler Wen as though she were looking at a dead man.
“Uncle Butler, if I am not mistaken, Aiden is supposed to be your so-called nephew, right? Or perhaps another term would be more appropriate—Aiden is actually your brother, isn’t he?”
As soon as Wen Xin spoke, Aiden instinctively stepped back; he never imagined that Wen Xin would even know about this.
Seeing the uncomfortable expression on the butler’s face, Wen Xin sneered, “You probably never thought that although I was not in Independent State, I would still be informed about many things, right? Originally, Aiden was the Old Fox’s plant alongside my father, employed to keep watch over him.”
“It’s just a pity that my father trusted you too much and believed that your nephew could not be a bad person. He never doubted Aiden; in the end, however, he was the one who suffered.”
Wen Xin’s cold eyes stared at the butler, now exposed and somewhat at a loss for words. Her lips curved up slightly in a faint smile.
“I know you showing up here today is another one of the Old Fox’s cards. I heard he collapsed in the hospital. Now, let me think, is he truly at his end this time, or is this another act devised to catch me off guard?”
As Wen Xin spoke, the butler didn’t dare to look at her face, having previously only thought of Wen Xin as reckless without suspecting her ability to discern a person’s psyche…
“Miss, the master… it was me…” the butler started to explain something reflexively but then suddenly remembered his mission and tried to change his tone at once.
“Forget it, stop pretending. Just go back to the Old Fox now and tell him there’s no need to act in front of me; I’m not falling for his schemes.”
Having said that, Wen Xin lifted her head and turned to look at Moore, who stood by enjoying the scene, and crooked her finger at him.
“Take him away.”
Wen Xin truly didn’t want to look at the butler’s disgusting face any longer, fearing she might lash out in the next second and ruin her plans.
Following Wen Xin’s command, Moore stepped forward, grabbed the butler by the collar, and dragged him out of the living room.
After Butler Wen left, only Wen Xin and Mu Chengxi remained in the living room. Wen Xin gently lifted her hand and pinched Mu Chengxi’s cheek; he looked at her and raised an eyebrow, then reached out and drew Wen Xin into his arms.
Resting in Mu Chengxi’s embrace, Wen Xin buried her head into his chest, a feeling of powerlessness washed over her, her hatred for the Wen family stuck in her heart.
Yet after all these experiences, a new indescribable emotion began to surface in her heart…@@novelbin@@
“Hey, have you guys heard… The Wen family is in chaos now, especially…” Xiao Mi came rushing in excitedly but stopped abruptly upon seeing the two people sitting on the sofa. She closed her mouth instantly and stood there, seeming lost and unsure of what to do.
Hearing Xiao Mi’s voice, Wen Xin lifted her head from Mu Chengxi’s embrace and shifted to a new position within his arms, lazily leaning against him. With a faint gaze at Xiao Mi from her glossy, black eyes, she started to speak in a gentle, unhurried tone.
“You burst in here, all flustered—how are the tasks I asked you to do coming along?”
Xiao Mi, noting Wen Xin’s casual posture in front of her, felt there was no need for any pretense between them anymore.
She strode over to the couch opposite Wen Xin and sat down, then casually grabbed a banana from the table and took a bite.
“Originally there was no chance, but after the people from the Kunshan Base suddenly formed a team and left, I found an opportunity. I’ve completed the tasks you entrusted to me, and you can rest assured, there won’t be any accidents.”
Xiao Mi patted her chest confidently, assuring Wen Xin that she had performed her mission beautifully.
Seeing Xiao Mi’s confident demeanor, Wen Xin gave a tender smile. At this moment, her complexion seemed much healthier than before.
On hearing the pleasing news, Wen Xin recalled Xiao Mi mentioning something when she came in but then suddenly stopping.
“Young lady, when you first came in, you were saying something as you entered the door. What was it you wanted to discuss? Did something major happen in the Independent State again?”
“Of course, it’s a major issue, and moreover, it’s a significant matter for the Wen family. Didn’t you know? The Old Fox should still be in the emergency room at this time, and the Old Fox’s youngest son, the piano prodigy Wen Moran, has also died in a car accident… You didn’t know? The Wen family is in turmoil.”
“Are you sure your information is accurate?” Wen Xin got up from Mu Chengxi’s embrace; she was somewhat skeptical about the truthfulness of the Old Fox being resuscitated. However, as she listened to Xiao Mi, she began to doubt the news she had received…
Just as Wen Xin was questioning the authenticity of the matter, her phone rang. She glanced at it and then picked up to answer the call from Wen Yunuo.
“What’s the matter? What’s happened?” Wen Xin asked in a cool tone. She never had a good impression of Wen Yunuo, but he was an obligatory partner, so her icy attitude towards him was entirely understandable.
“My younger uncle had a car accident…” Wen Yunuo deliberately paused while speaking; he already had an inkling about the truth, so his reaction wasn’t substantial.
“Hmm, I’ve heard about it,” Wen Xin replied indifferently upon hearing Wen Yunuo’s words and showed no significant reaction.
Wen Xin’s response was not quite what Wen Yunuo had expected. However, she didn’t make it obvious and merely continued in the same cool tone Wen Xin had used.
“The Old Fox couldn’t handle the shock and fainted. He just came out of the emergency room an hour ago and was moved to the ICU. The doctors say his condition isn’t very good.”
“Oh? Is that so? Are you sure the Old Fox’s grief is genuine? Are you sure that the Old Fox would truly be sad?”
Wen Xin was scornful towards what Wen Yunuo had said, as she couldn’t imagine the Old Fox being so sentimental over his deceased youngest son. She found it somewhat unbelievable.
Logically, the Old Fox was not one to prioritize emotions… his son was never as important to him as holding power in his hands.
Wen Yunuo could tell Wen Xin didn’t quite believe him and chuckled lightly, finding his own words unconvincing. Based on his understanding of the Old Fox, he knew the man was not the sentimental type…
What do you think?
