“Hestia, I will be visiting to train you in one month.”
What a statement from my eldest brother. It really sounded like an order considering how Kahalameet looked so much like a military officer. Something akin to a boss telling a subordinate that they would come visit for a routine inspection or something to flush out some corruption. In this case, the inspection was my general fitness and combat prowess.
However, it did make you wonder why he wanted this sorta secrecy. Mom told me Kahalameet wanted me to come to Kahalameet for a letter, and when the fire wyverns brought me it, he told me to not leak that he would come visit me in a month. Who was he hiding this from? Visiting his sister shouldn’t have that many consequences. Ȑ𝓪NǑBËṣ
Yet, if you thought about it, I was probably the second or third most contentious person for Inferno Nest, Kahalameet’s main supporting faction. After what I did to Maustoovaka, it just made sense. He probably was scrutinized by his follower base and he didn’t want to play by their rhythm, so he decided to break it bit by, probably, secretly coming to Frozen Nest to help me out, as Wendriosa promised. I was supposed to get some training from all my siblings to allow them to get to know me better.
As such, patience is the virtue here.
I pretty much kicked out anything from my schedule that involved a long trip somewhere, which meant I had no opportunity to revisit the northern tundra for extra training. Still, not training at all was out of the question, so I made sure to constantly train my [Ice Resistance] for the upcoming glacier expedition.
As such, I was mixing up where I usually hung out for the week, dividing my month-long wait between Iceskale and Home. Iceskale was for me to act as a princess to help manage everything, including advising people at the digital media guild and teaching their camera operators how to film and stream. Meanwhile, at Home, it was hunting, training, and [Battle Frenzy] meditation.
With Hikari around, she could handle my songwriting while I kept our body concert-ready. Since the plan was to celebrate Mom’s birthday in five months’ time, we had to plan things in advance for my uncle retainers to prepare. After all, before then, our party would enter the glacier for Tasianna’s, Kramps’s, and my sake.
Speaking of planning, in this one month, I also managed to help the Kleodrastia and Rexmardr clan get some jobs within the digital media guild. We pretty much filled out all positions that were needed to start production, although, onboarding everybody would probably take around three to five months, optimistically.
This was a new industry and its kinks had to be ironed out, and I hadn’t even mentioned how the majority of the new employees were apprentices at their craft. Meaning, some of them would probably need to be replaced, delaying the project.
Stress, stress, stress … just in a different form. Nothing to do about it but to release it all by punching some mammoths and ice golems.

Training also included the usual leveling-focused hunts. I was particularly interested in raising my Job levels to test out the Job evolution tips I received from my friends. As mentioned, the amount of evolution points you gained during your leveling process would determine the choice of your unique Job’s evolution, similarly to a monster evolution.
Kramps already gave me that entire seraphim explanation and how the unique Job system was supposed to bridge the gap between monster and humanoids. Not to mention how it also acted as an additional trial to allow the gods to grant their blessed more power ups outside of divine Quests.
Therefore, I removed all my development Job but [Wildfire] as planned, solely leveling it up until now. Two more levels were needed until I could choose my second unique Job evolution and gain some nice powerups. Not to mention, the extra Job skills I could gain from all of this.
[Wildfire] was my skill farming Job, and as such, I wasn’t planning on using it for combat so I focused all the points into skill boosting skills. [Searing Flames] sounded interesting, but to switch a developmental Job with another, I needed to use my System crystal for it. Neither did I want to risk it breaking nor could I use the skill anyways as a dragon, so who cared about a measly 5% vitality and 10% wisdom reduction compared to the stats I got transforming back into a dragon? Also, [Lightbearer] had more offensive skills over [Wildfire].
[Star Idol] Prestige spent. 10 Prestige Points to [Heavenly Performance Act 1] -> [Heavenly Performance Act 2]
Second unlock requirement reached. [Heavenly Performance Act 1] will transition into [Heavenly Performance Act 2]
Yet, the most important part about my one month training was the fact I had enough prestige points for [Heavenly Performance Act 2]! I technically had enough after the glacial scouting trip, but I mostly forgot about it with all the more important things I had to do. Not too big of a problem, though, since unlocking the second act didn’t give me a clue on how to unlock the third.
… Yet, the effects needed me to wait for my brother, anyways.
A new clause has been added to [Idol]’s spell song creation. “Instrumental” unlocked. The performer can decide on a spell song purely dedicated to the wonders of musical instruments to convey their story. Restricted by playing real instruments like the bards of these lands, the idol is allowed to have these spell songs empower the effects of other spell songs as long as their rhythm and theme fit together. If they do not, both spell songs will lose harmony, preventing their effects from working together. This clause is allowed to work with “Target Demographic”
In other words, this spell song clause was meant to work with [Musical Renaissance Diva], as the skill allowed me to play two spell songs at the same time. Furthermore, any spell songs worked, so even those from other musicians could be supported by me. When it came to music, I was more of a soloist with a few collabs here and there, but I didn’t mind acting as the pit orchestra for the musical. Even the grand piano needed the support of a metal triangle to elevate its music with the power of harmony.
… Which was funny, since [Musical Renaissance Diva] never imposed discord penalties on me for playing two mismatched songs together. Oh, well!
In any case, I hadn’t made any spell songs yet with only instruments, as I felt lyrics made my music better. Papa and Mama probably wouldn’t agree, since they were far more classically-oriented and believed instrumental and singing had their places. Our creative view differed here, but I couldn’t disagree that the charm of a lone piano or violin playing had such a romantic feeling to it, similar to an instrument-less serenade.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.
Which was why I waited for my violin and piano to arrive.
And lookie there!
I looked up to the skies, seeing the silhouette of six wyverns arriving at the horizon. Eventually, their figures became noticeable enough that I could see the red scales covering their bodies. I did feel bad that I was using Rego as a courier twice now, but somebody had to go and get my brother, apparently. Why? Well, Mom did tell me to “hear it from Kahalameet.”
When the fire wyvern squadron landed, my party tilted their heads when we couldn’t see my brother anywhere. Wondering this, Rego took out a letter and told us before we opened it, we had to return home, and not our Iceskale mansion, but Home.
“Those were the orders of the prince.”
Did something stop him? I thought, but shrugged and turned into a dragon to taxi everybody back to our mountain on Hestia Airlines.
As usual, it took until the afternoon for me to reach Home, although the icy bite of the silver winds wasn’t as chilling to me as usual. Maybe it was ‘cause my solar core had regrown or maybe it was due to my [Ice Resistance Lv. 5]; nevertheless, I felt more comfortable around Mom’s mountain.
Once I landed, Rego, and the other fire wyverns, were freezing their tails off so we quickly headed into my part of the mountain, where I activated an industrial manatech heater I had bought from Iceskale for my own use. Once the outside temperature around my house had reached a good enough temperature for the wyverns, they brought the letter out … including, [Room] runes?
Considering I still couldn’t visit Grimnir inside the subspace, now could he come to me since he had an expedition with Saori and Ellaine, subspace runes couldn’t be produced. Sure, I could ask one of the runesmiths who came with Jadhund, but that would open a whole can of worms. The [Room] runes were extremely precious, so even having an acquaintance of our party make them would be a bit too risky. Not to mention, Grimnir’s pride would never allow it.
We hadn’t assigned any runes to the wyvern, not ‘cause we didn’t trust them—well, Shay still didn’t—but ‘cause we didn’t have any more to spare with my empress-mothers taking one for themselves. The wyverns left without them and came back with a pair, so did Mom give them to them? Was that the reason why somebody had to physically go to Kahalameet?
… So, something is placed inside—No, somebody is inside. Objects can be taken out of the subspace with no distance restriction, so the only reason to transfer runes to others was to bring people around!
As the master of the subspace, my deduction was … correct!
“So, you were inside!” I cried out when I saw the portal opening up, prompting somebody to take their first step outside.
Black and red scales covered his glove-less hands, as the robes under his scaled armor fluttered from the hot, blowing wind of the heater. Every step he took felt heavy with the rattling of his equipment coupled with that large frame of his. With hair and fins as dark as his scales and his tentacle whiskers and beard of a similar color as the reddened highlights, this levianewt always made me feel like I should bow in front of him whenever we met. Those red eyes of his exuded the aura of a ruler.
“Brother!” Yet, I smiled and waved at him, surprising my instincts to act submissive. “I knew something like this was the case, but really? Is the situation that dire that you have to be secretive about everything?”
Kahalameet stood straight before me, towering over me by a head. His smile was reserved as he placed a hand behind his back before he twisted his torso, inspecting where he was. “The mistress of the subspace would know its rules the best, right? I am just happy the surprise managed to shake you this much for such a reaction.”
“Ha, he can joke?” Vifi stated, prompting the kneeling fire wyverns to look at her with disapproval. Seeing this, she clicked her tongue and shook her head. “Learned nothing from your ‘wyvern education?’ Prince or not, you shouldn’t show that much respect to anybody but your actual master.”
“Stand up,” Shay added sternly, voice clearly angered, surprising Rego and the other fire wyverns.
Coming to their support, Kahalameet gestured for them to stand up. “You have chosen your mistress, and she is a princess of equal rank as me. It does not matter what our relationship is, unless it is Empress-Mother Melloxtressa or our father, you must not show such reverence to me or any other dragon. You are no longer a denizen of Inferno Nest, you are a subject of Frozen Nest.”
“Y-yes, Prince Kahalameet.” Rego and the others shot right up before lowering their tails at me. “We apologize, Princess Hestia. We did not know our place.”
I don’t really care,
I wanted to say but kept it to myself. Vifi was the military-minded member and Shay prioritized decorum, and me saying my opinion out loud would only downplay their opinions in this matter. Not saying anything was the best answer here, anyways.Once I gave them a nod, Kahalameet turned back to me. “I should apologize as well for imposing myself.”
“Wendriosa already told me she will arrange this so we can speak. She told me her plans without you, and now you can do the same. Fair is fair, and I like that we can keep it above water, in this case,” I replied, reminding him how he didn’t interject into that discussion between Wendriosa and me after I visited Eltharion. “I’m more confused why you are doing this and whose [Room] runes these are.”
“My mother,” he immediately answered. “A feud between the Inferno Nest resident and the leviathans ‘invading’ into Coral Beard arose and it has gotten worse over the month. You understand our supportive base, correct?”
“Wendriosa relies on the foreign, Caedhulen leviathans for power, while you have the backing of Inferno Nest. Mom also told me how the former were interrupting our naval trade and such, and that the empress-mothers had to intervene.”
“Count our father in as well, now.”
I flinched back, rubbing my ears as I wasn’t sure if I had heard right. I turned to Tasianna but she shared an equally confused expression, so Mom didn’t even tell her about it either.
Seeing this, Kahalameet let out a sigh through his nose. “You are lucky that you’re able to avoid most of it. Yes, father is finally making a move … It makes me feel like our confrontation in Inferno Nest shook him to the core. That lethargy he’s been showing is still too evident with how slow he is working, but battling your mother, his treatment of you being shown publicly, and Fargryneill’s and Ryranakus’s emotionally-fueled reveal must have awoken his soul.”
I tilted my head, letting out a loud “Huh?” at this fact. “I … didn’t really plan this. Sooo, he’s actually doing something about the succession war, then? Does that mean—”
“Unfortunately, no,” he stated, almost making me want to groan dramatically with how blunt he was being. “I can see he is trying, but it really feels like he is forcing himself to stay alive until a definite heir is chosen. The issue is, he has told nobody of his requirements, so every single nest is still trying to support their candidate. He’s not making it easier, but under his watchful eyes, neither my base nor Wendriosa’s can incite a war. That at least brings me peace …”
“Sorry,” I said, telling him I had heard from Sierranavus about her opinion on the matters, including the intelligence I had heard. Seeing my brother calmly listening to everything made it clear he knew everything already and probably agreed.
“Maustoovaka went too far; he is at fault, and I share some blame as I also relied on him. Sierranavus isn’t incorrect in that my sister and I require ancient dragonkin to help us. After all, you cannot rule an empire of dragons if you are weaker than the ones you are ruling. Our grandfather conquering the continent through might and coercion made this fact an untold law, and with Father’s health deteriorating before any of us could evolve into a rank S is the core of this crisis.” Kahalameet’s brows furrowed. “You could say, that is the requirement our father is not telling anybody as it is too obvious to not figure out.”
“Ah, so that means—”
“I am hiding from my own supporter base, yes,” he interrupted me again! “I punished Maustoovaka with house arrest, giving more influence to Arkanator as he is ‘more moderate’ than his counterpart. Sadly, that was all I could do.”
“Don’t make it too big of a deal, Brother. I already suspected that from how you apologized to me.” I signed eternally at how exasperating all the events that happened a month ago were. “Father doesn’t want to do anything about the succession crisis and our empress-mothers can only prevent the empire from collapsing, not influence the event. You giving Maustoovaka any big penalty would ruin your standing, and Father knew it.”
“You’re … too gracious for a Kargryxmor, Hestia.” Kahalameet sighed, looking at me with a pained smile. “So, the reason why I came here through my mother’s runes was to avoid the fact my base wants me to train inside the Dungeon of Infinite Feasts. They want me to become rank S as soon as possible. I’m avoiding that because I had a promise to fulfill. My oath to you.”
“Okay, you’re definitely making a big deal out of it now!” I said sarcastically, but I couldn’t help but hide my smile as every bone in my body was anticipating my presents. I could already smell the wood from here, figuratively.
Brother let out a big, hearty laugh as he pointed at my wagging tail before asking my retainers for help to transport everything. The first to come out of the subspace was Tasianna, bringing me … a black-colored, wooden violin! Not a geigler, but a violin exactly how I described it on the blueprints.
I couldn’t speak, shocked into silence as Tasianna approached me with a wide smile. She handed me the instrument, but I couldn’t stop my hands from shaking, nervously grabbing both it and the bow before putting it on my left shoulder.
“This feels …” I twisted and turned my neck, trying to find just the perfect point to comfortably allow my chin to lay on the cotton shoulder rest. The warmth of the wood, the feel of the tough strings on my fingers, and the weight of the instrument were slowly entering my brain, activating my newly acquired [Mathematician] to calculate everything.
This feels … like a 400 gram(14 ounces) violin. That is far lighter than Mama’s, but just heavy enough to play some darker tones. Warmth is good, and from this feel on the wood, a pretty strong resin got applied. [Mana Eyes] can detect a strong mana concentration on it.
“Elven wood from Saelariel.” Kahalameet followed Tasianna out of the subspace. “It’s lighter than the ones on Kel’Thun, but still attuned with mana that it can smoothly let your mana flow into it and towards your catalyst. Resin resistant to most elemental types and wood strong against physical blows will keep it safe in a battle.”
He then took out a box of replacement strings from the bag he brought out with him. “Wyvern scales and spider silk turned into strings with alchemy. They should not only have the elasticity needed for you to play, but they are also magically resistant. Much so against flames. I have the formula here, so your fairy maid can continuously synthesize them whenever you run out of them. I’ve also included the ones for your piano in here, as well.”
“I am honored, Prince Kahalameet,” Tasianna bowed and accepted the recipes.
With a nod he then took out a jade-colored, infinity-symbol styled slab the same size as the underside of my violin. “The luthier told Empress-Mother Virrflax that most catalyst instruments will sound differently than a normal one, particularly string instruments as the catalyst has to touch the wood when the sound is being transferred. Frankly, I did not understand most of it.”
“No, no, no, it’s all right. I think I understand!” I took the slab and opened up the violin’s underside, recognizing four hitching points for something to be placed on it. Perfectly fitting the catalyst, I placed it on it and closed the violin, showing Kahalameet that was where it had to go despite never seeing a magical instrument outside of my fight with the Prince of Pride. “When it comes to violins, the weight and type of wood is extremely important for the quality of the sound. The heavier, the more muffled and deeper everything will sound, and that can be a good or bad thing, depending on the performance.”
I took the catalyst out and placed the violin on my shoulder, ready to play as my bow touched the four strings on it. Taking a deep breath as I quickly chose an excerpt of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto as the violin’s first play. A very lofty piece to play, due to the extremely light tones that could be easily muffled by the sound of everything around us.
And for that, to properly evaluate this purchase, I decided to take the soloist section for the second movement of the play. In an orchestra, playing music was about telling a story with the instruments. In particular, a soloist would introduce a “discussion” between them and the rest of the orchestra; harmony was important, but the appeal for a soloist was usually this back-and-forth dialogue, like a listener questioning a storyteller for more details.
That was the beauty of it all.
[Music Resonation (Moderate)] inflicted on [Young Sunfang Dragon, Hestia Atsuko Kargryxmor]
“Ah!” I heard Kahalameet gasp as both my fingers and bow began to move, vibrating the strings to create, as I expected, extremely light tones. The chords strung together instantly made me feel like I was a girl dancing and jumping along a peaceful, windy, green prairie, doing pirouettes and smiling as the bright sun shone on me.
I didn’t know how Tasianna and Kahalameet felt about it, but that was what I loved about Beethoven’s piece. It wasn’t an epic or a call for fight, but a story about the ups-and-downs of life. The clarinets, the other strings, and everything else gave the piece the “reality” it needed to contrast the optimistic and energetic play of the solo violin.
The second movement especially allowed this quiet celebration of life with how it’s played in larghetto, a slow enough tempo to allow you to relax to the music. It made me appreciate the play so much, I felt the exact obsession I did when I first played my first geigler.
My eyes snapped open as I couldn’t relax any longer. I immediately stopped playing, disrupting everything to adjust the strings. I felt the fire of perfectionism infect me, that musician inside my heart that couldn’t accept anything but the optimal result, that annoying voice inside me that kept me from branching out.
However, “Hikari and Hestia” were both louder this time. I wanted to create music but I knew putting too much focus on the details would only distract me from the emotions I had to place in my songs.
Playing the geigler kept my twitching hands in control, but the deeper sounds it produced couldn’t be compared to the scherzo the violin could produce! Once I was happy with the sound of my strings, I opened the backside and placed the catalyst slab inside, increasing the instrument's weight just so I could produce deeper, more rich notes.
For this, I had to go wild—Vivaldi’s Four Season, the Winter concerto’s first movement in F minor. The sickest beat drop in the 1800s!
One of the earliest programmatic music, music used to tell a narrative, these four concerti were meant to fully tell the effects of a season like a bard’s storytelling. The winter part, for example, was meant to showcase the brutal effects a winter could have on everybody as it ravaged through land and life, but also the calm lulls it could have to allow people to cherish the beauty of falling snow.
It would start out slowly with quiet touches on the violin to give that feeling of an impending doom before transitioning into these vicious, allegro strings that would abruptly stop in a discord, like scratching a blackboard for a moment. Yet, this wasn’t even the best part, as the ensuing piece after the bridge was like a hectic chase during a blizzard, with people hurrying their steps to escape the impact of the cold, doing everything they could to survive the cold.
It was such a violin-destroyer, honestly. The way you had to play it meant you could accidentally break the strings on your instrument, ruining the entire performance in one go, yet you had to play on the edge to convey the impatient nature of the music piece.
[Music Resonation (Major)] inflicted on [Young Sunfang Dragon, Hestia Atsuko Kargryxmor]
“EUREKA!” I shouted once I was done playing, feeling inspiration fueling my body, bringing my heart to such a race that I couldn’t even focus. I had to continue playing or bring the music in my head onto a sheet.
It wasn’t enough, though. I knew it, so I chose the first option. However, it wouldn’t be on the violin though as my eyes spot the sight of a grand orchestral violin in its entire grandeur. Vifi and the wyverns had brought it out of the subspace while I was playing. I hadn’t noticed it, not how everybody was clapping.
A part of me wanted to bask in the enjoyment of everybody, but I couldn’t. I wanted to play the piano.
“Ah, the other instrument! Yes, so—” Kahalameet began to explain but my brain shut it out completely, instead, it moved my body towards the piano.
I sat down, feeling a soft cushion on my seat before my fingers did the speaking. Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata movement 3 in presto agitato—yes, another Beethoven piece but I needed something I was comfortable with to allow all this energy to flow out. I didn’t care in what state this piano was, I needed to play it!
Dididididididididididididididididididididi.
That nonstop sound of keys being pressed echoed throughout my cavern, only stopping for a single second to allow my audience—and the pianist—the time to take a breath. Hopefully they did, as there would be no stops for a solid four minutes.
If Vivaldi's Winter was a piece about surviving the brutal winter to enjoy its beauty, then the Moonlight Sonata’s third movement was the storm after the calm that was the first movement. It was a relentless chase or struggle to fight that would make you fear change, making you wish to go back to peaceful times.
Seven minutes of nonstop was needed for me to finally expel this haze from my mind. I shot up and pressed my body weight on the piano’s key, ending the sonata.
“YEAH!”
[Music Resonation (Critical)] inflicted on [Young Sunfang Dragon, Hestia Atsuko Kargryxmor]
“This thing works!” I shouted once more and turned around, feeling like I had just ran a marathon for that rush. “Thank you very much, big bro! These two presents are amazing!”

Eh?
Why did my follower notice just go up? I mean, I was happy I didn’t lose anybody in the one month but seeing it go up by one and through a dragon was kinda weird. Who …
I had to stop myself when I saw Kahalameet frozen in place, looking at me with a look as if he wanted to say something but couldn’t. Tilting my head, I turned to the others, only to notice them clapping and cheering for me. Even the usually stoic Vifi whistled to show she enjoyed my play. Everybody showed some celebration but Kahalameet, making me almost think he didn’t like it.
“Bravo,” he said after everybody else stopped clapping, before mimicking everything just a moment ago. “You didn’t let me explain … but I guess, as long as you are happy about it.”
“It’s the best!” I rushed over and gave the giant brother of mine a big hug, trying my best to wrap my arms around his muscular body and thick scale armor. “Thank you! I, oooh, it feels so good to play again. You don’t know how much of a difference it is to play on an actual piano compared to one I made from air! Incomparable! Ahaha, I think I’m still rusty but I can feel the ideas flowing! Arrh, I need to play, I need to—”
Krrk.
My head felt warmer when I heard that rumbling from below. I blinked, able to see Kahalameet’s smile turning into a wide grin as he began to chuckle, patting my head as if I was a kid.
“Maybe we should take a break first and eat.”
“It is almost dinner time, my lady. Let us unload our groceries for the evening.”
“S-sure. I guess I can play afterward.”
After placing my piano and violin into my [Storage Magic], I went to the kitchen and helped Tasianna cook our dinner. The little tune I couldn’t keep out of my mind felt like a headache, but I suppressed my urge to continue playing as I wanted to start my brother’s stay and training arc on a good foot.
Until I have to go back to Iceskale, I guess I will spend some time with my eldest bro.
