Volume 13 Chapter 37: Let’s Get Hunting!
Before Keith could react, the man was already before him in the blink of an eye! Circling the boy,
“Are you an adventurer?”
”Yes.” Keith nodded, but that only surprised the man.
“Hmm? I haven’t heard about such a young adventurer. Are you in a party?" This was an A-rank dungeon.
"No, I came here alone." Keith shook his head, "I'm a B-rank adventurer." He showed his adventurer's tag.
That only made the man more intrigued, “A B-rank? Then you got the go-ahead from the guild to enter?”
“Yep!”
“Haha, then the guild has a good seedling!” The man laughed as he patted. But it was a heavy hit. His pats alone made Keith grimace!
“So what’s the name? My name is Erwin. And no need to call me Mr., I don’t like it.”
“My name is Keith!” Such a lively fellow. That was the feeling he got, but he didn’t mind it at all. He preferred casual conversation.
“Good spirit! So why did you come here alone?”
“Ahh, I came here to search for some ingredients.”
Erwin was intrigued, “To search for ingredients? That’s interesting. Is it for a quest?” Most of the time, it would be a quest.
"No, I want to cook them."
“Usually, the chefs would hire adventurers to do that.” A chef becoming an adventurer was unheard of. That only intrigued Erwin more.
“Well, I believe it’s better to find them yourselves. Who knows, you might find something quite interesting.” It was better to be there. Only he would know what was great.
Erwin then suggested, “Then do you want one of them?” He pointed at the knocked-down mammoths.
“No! It’s your kill; I can't take it.” Adventurer's rule: whoever killed the monster, that’s their kill. No one could take it away.
“It’s fine. I have more than enough here.” Erwin waved it off. Mounds of mammoths surrounded them. Using one wasn't going to kill him.
"Then how about I make a meal for you? It’s around lunchtime.” A bargain between the two.
Erwin became interested, “Sure! That would be great.” That was the first time he had heard about this, and he was curious.
“Thank you so much!” He took out his things and then started to get to work. But that was when he was going to prepare himself. The first step was to butcher the mammoth.
This thing is quite huge. The size of one of them easily towered Keith. His regular knife wasn't going to cut it.
That was why he took out his giant halberd.
“Woah, that’s a strong weapon you got there.” A glance alone was enough for Erwin to tell it was dangerous.
“Thank you.” He slammed his halberd down, slicing the mammoth. As he continued to do so, the beast was split by its parts.
“Are you a big eater?”
“Of course!” Erwin laughed. Hearing this, Keith sliced giant chunks.
And I know of a great place to seared it. Keith looks at the giant boulder beside him.
Shing!
Two cuts, and it became the perfect slab for cooking. He placed the meat on top. Caveman style. He chucked a lot of spice on one side, and then he flipped it over to another.
“Woah, that’s impressive.” Erwin started at the giant slab of meat that was contained. “And the final step, butter.” He took out a massive chunk of butter and tossed it on top. Slowly, the butter melted, coating this meat with an amazingly rich aroma.
Gulp. Gradually, Erwin's throat made sounds as he stared. Splitting the mammoth meat, it was time to eat. Keith took a bite.
Interesting. Similar to earth chicken, there was an earthy flavor. However, there was an interesting tang from the meat.
Keith grinned as he savored each bite. He turned to Erwin, who ate rapidly! “Keith! This is incredible! How were you able to create something so delicious.”
“That’s because I seared it to trap the flavors. But I wonder if I could find items to compliment it.”
"Hmm?"
"Usually, there would be ingredients that would pair with the monsters in the dungeon. It might be because they ate these ingredients." It was similar to the cinnamon and the serpent; they were a fantastic match.
“I’m thinking there should be something here that we can use for it.” He wanted to find out.
“…” Erwin said nothing as he quickly finished the mammoth steak, “Let’s go out and search for some ingredients!”
“I came here to train, but we need to go and get more meat!” Now, there was a new objective for all of this.
Keith smiled, “Yeah! Let’s do this!” It would be an interesting search with the two of them combined. And that was how it started.
“Oooh! I think we can use this!” Keith started at the giant tree before him.
“Eh?”
"Wood can be used as an ingredient?"
"Mmhmm. My gut is telling me it'll pair with the mammoth!" And he was correct. During dinner, he incorporated the wood into searing the steak. The meat slowly absorbed the wood's flavor.
The two started to eat like no tomorrow as they relished in the deliciousness.
What do you think?
