Chapter 217 – Playing with an Infant Dragon.

Chapter 217 – Playing with an Infant Dragon.

Feeling invincible, I started running through the 12th floor, killing every monster I encountered along the way. I took down various types of monsters, all with my bare hands.

Even the Orcs, who were supposed to be resilient creatures, fell easily to my fists. My punch was strong enough to shatter rocks, so severely injuring or crushing their heads was no challenge.

But after long minutes of this, boredom began to creep in.

I stopped running and started walking through the floor, searching for an Infant Dragon or a Black Wyvern.

But finding a Black Wyvern might be a bit difficult.

"Well, maybe I'll find a common Wyvern around."

I focused and began sensing for any slightly stronger presence nearby. I could feel many presences, but none strong enough to catch my attention. They were all just common monsters.

"Actually, there are a few stronger presences around, but they're adventurers."

I knew they were adventurers because the presence of a monster and that of an adventurer felt distinctly different. It's hard to explain, but a monster's presence is slightly more sinister.

I could feel the malice emanating from any monster. Since they're creatures created to kill humans, they radiate malevolence even when not fighting one.

"There are a lot of humans around... Or maybe not humans, since different races are present too. But the presence of humans and other races isn't all that different."

Should I approach a group of adventurers? No, better not.

I abandoned the idea and decided to head to the 13th floor.

I walked for long minutes, hidden in the mist, until I reached the passage to the 13th floor. But just as I was ready to descend, I sensed something strange behind me.

A few meters away, concealed in the mist.

I couldn't hear anything, but I sensed the presence of a few people.

"One... Two... Five." Five people, and one of their presences was gradually fading. "Wait, there's something else." Then I felt a slightly stronger presence. Not terrifying, but definitely strong.

I clenched my fists and decided to turn back.

I quickened my pace, cutting through the mist at high speed.

And as I ran, the fading human presence disappeared completely.

At that exact moment, I arrived at the scene.

"Nila is still alive!? Answer me!" A man shouted while holding a large shield, protecting his companions behind him.

"She's not breathing anymore!" a woman cried, her voice filled with desperation.

She was kneeling, cradling her friend's head, whose stomach had a deep gash. Her organs were spilling out of her abdomen. It was obvious she was already dead.

It was impossible to save her.

"Camila, enough! Help us!" A second man shouted, gripping a spear and looking terrified.

Then, a third man charged forward.

He passed by his friend, who was using his shield to block the Infant Dragon's attack, and slashed at the creature. He only managed a shallow wound before clicking his tongue in frustration.

None of them noticed my presence, just a few meters away in the mist.

'Better step in before anyone else dies. I don't know them, but letting people I can save die doesn't sit right with me.'

I drew the "Black Dragon" sword from my inventory.

As I unsheathed it, a dark aura began to seep from the blade.

The Infant Dragon, focused on the man with the shield, turned its head, and its eyes locked onto me.

I grinned at it, and the Infant Dragon roared.

Finally, the three men and the woman noticed me.

####

When the woman tending to the dead friend saw me, she gasped and shouted. "You need to get out of here right now!" Tears streamed down her face. "Please, run and get help! I need to save her!" She looked down at the woman on the ground.

I sighed and replied,

"This woman died minutes ago."

"..." The woman hadn't expected to hear that and was stunned.

I ignored her and called out to the three men struggling against the Infant Dragon. "You three, back off! It'll focus on me—just protect yourselves!" Hearing my words, the man with the shield glanced back in disbelief.

"What the hell are you doing? Are you insane?!" The man who had attacked the dragon with a sword earlier shouted.

"Are you trying to get yourself killed?!" the man with the spear yelled.

The man with the shield, silent for a moment, turned and fled, trusting me.

"Jonas?"

"What are you doing?"

"Do as he says!" The man named Jonas, likely their leader, shouted.

His companions looked at me worriedly but retreated. Jonas picked up the dead girl's body and ran off. The girl named Camila chased after them, panic etched on her face.

"Alright, now the path is clear to deal with him."

I smirked and said, "Bloodlust. Speed. Super Strength. Attack Speed."

I activated several skills and raised my sword. I thought the Infant Dragon would be frightened by my "Bloodlust" skill and the sword, but it wasn't.

The Infant Dragon roared and charged.

It rushed at me, the ground trembling beneath its weight.

As it got closer, I realized it wasn't that tall.

"Three meters? And its hide doesn't look very tough." My lips curled into a grin as I vanished from the Infant Dragon's view, moving at high speed. The creature couldn't keep up.

Splat!

A wet sound echoed as my sword pierced its side, and blood gushed out.

The Infant Dragon froze for a moment, then glared at me.

Our eyes met, and it opened its mouth to try and bite me. But before it could, I was already behind it, my blade piercing its other side.

With my sword lodged inside, I twisted it, making the creature bleed even more.

My heart raced, and my mind went blank for a moment.

Is this excitement?

Every time I stabbed it, I felt like a king for some reason.

Playing with a monster like this is so much fun.
