Chapter 105
Knowing that Ji Nian didn't want to leave, even though Chen Mo felt regret in his heart, he didn't force her into any further decisions.
After all, Ji Nian had grown up here and was accustomed to the Ji Family.
Abruptly changing her living environment could indeed affect her well-being.
He realized he hadn't considered Ji Nian's feelings enough before.
But Chen Mo wasn't giving up on taking Ji Nian away from what he saw as a dangerous place. For now, he could only focus on helping Ji Nian get familiar with him.
He would do it gradually.
Ignoring Ji Tingzhou's seething gaze, Chen Mo continued to talk to Ji Nian, mentioning plans for weekends when he could take her out to play.
He said his goodbyes with a lingering look, then left with his people.
Even after they were gone, Wei Yang's men still blocked the exit, unmoving without Ji Tingzhou's command.
Ji Nian looked up at her father, her eyes filled with a pleading sadness.
Ji Tingzhou, his face cold, commanded Wei Yang to let them leave.
As soon as they were gone, he yanked his sleeve out of Ji Nian's grasp and, without a word, turned to head upstairs.
Ji Nian felt a pang of guilt. She wanted to grab her father's sleeve again but hesitated, recalling that she had just hugged Chen Mo. Knowing her father's cleanliness-induced quirks, she decided it would be better to change her clothes first before trying to make amends.
This, unfortunately, led to Ji Tingzhou, who had been slowing his steps, waiting for his daughter to catch up, hearing only the sound of her footsteps retreating.
Infuriated, his fingers trembled.
"Little ingrate, fickle and disloyal."
Remembering what Wei Yang had told him about Ji Nian being fond of her sickly Chinese teacher, and now discovering that the teacher was actually her uncle, Ji Tingzhou imagined her overjoyed with this revelation.
With such a temperamental father like him, it wouldn't be long before she got fed up and had a legitimate excuse to run to her uncle's arms.
The more Ji Tingzhou thought about it, the darker his expression grew.
In his mind, he began planning to have Chen Mo taken care of, preferably in a manner so gruesome that his corpse wouldn't even resemble a human.
His emerald-green eyes gradually turned bloodshot as he imagined various grotesque ways to dispose of Chen Mo.
Just as Ji Tingzhou was about to act on these thoughts, a voice came from behind him, tinged with curiosity.
"Dad? Why are you standing here?"
Ji Nian had quickly changed into fresh clothes and ran back, only to find Ji Tingzhou still standing near the elevator, deep in thought.
Hearing Ji Nian's voice, Ji Tingzhou slowly turned his head, his familiar emerald eyes causing Ji Nian concern.
"What are you doing back here?"
The thought of Chen Mo that had been lingering in his mind disappeared the moment he saw Ji Nian.
He immediately noticed that she had changed her outfit.
A gray t-shirt, black pants with bow patterns, and her favorite slippers.
Realizing the reason behind her wardrobe change, the sharp, stifling anger that had been building up in Ji Tingzhou's chest was effortlessly dispelled.
Ji Nian blinked, her face lighting up with a conciliatory smile as she stepped closer to take his hand, leaning half her body against him and looking up.
"Of course, I'm here to make it up to Dad."
"Don't be angry, Dad."
Seeing her puffy-cheeked, apologetic face, Ji Tingzhou's fingers twitched, itching for something.
He maintained his composure, his expression unchanged as he spoke.
"What am I angry about?"
"I'm just moody and emotionally unstable."
He sneered, repeating verbatim what Chen Mo had called him earlier.
["Truly insecure, aren't you, Your Highness?"]
Upon hearing this, Ji Nian understood where the issue lay.
Apparently, he had taken Chen Mo's words to heart.
Ji Nian tilted her head, her expression puzzled.
"What does 'moody' mean, Dad?"
After all, I'm just in first grade, and I haven't learned that word yet. Hahaha.
Ji Tingzhou: "......"
Trying to pull one over me, are you?
Do you believe Ji Nian, a genius who can even concoct antidotes, doesn't understand the word "moody"? Or do you believe I'm the emperor Qin Shi Huang?
Meeting Ji Tingzhou's skeptical gaze, Ji Nian knew he wouldn't buy it.
She coughed, letting out a long, exaggerated sigh.
"Dad."
"You shouldn't overthink things."
"Everyone has flaws, and as family, we should be more forgiving. Even if you're moody, Dad, you're very patient. You always help me comb my hair and braid it beautifully."
"Emotionally unstable just means Dad didn't get enough sleep last night. How can someone who didn't sleep well have stable emotions?"
She tugged at Ji Tingzhou, signaling him to lean down.
After a few seconds of staring at her, Ji Tingzhou finally, half-reluctantly, bent down to her level.
Ji Nian stood on her tiptoes and whispered into his ear.
"I have a secret to tell you."
"I only have one dad, and I love you the most."
As soon as the words left her mouth, the irritation of someone suddenly trying to steal his child and the wrinkles in his heart were all smoothed out like ironing.
Feeling loved enough to melt even the stingiest of hearts into forgiveness.
"Ahem..."@@novelbin@@
"Alright, you're a big girl now. Stop clinging to Dad."
"I'm going to the study. The kitchen has prepared some grass jelly and sent it to the balcony. Don't eat too much; dinner will be ready soon."
Ji Tingzhou straightened up, appearing calm, but a closer look revealed that his ears were slightly red, and he avoided meeting Ji Nian's eyes.
Satisfied that he wouldn't overthink anymore, Ji Nian smiled contentedly.
Before Ji Tingzhou got into the elevator, she called out loudly, "Dad, I love you the most!"
"I won't give up on cleaning up after you when you're a hundred years old!"
Ji Tingzhou: "......"
He'd rather end his life than lose control of his bodily functions...
The servants passing by couldn't help but chuckle upon hearing Ji Nian's words.
Feeling even more embarrassed, Ji Tingzhou hurried his steps. Realizing he was the head of the household, he immediately shot a sharp glare at everyone.
The previously snickering servants immediately straightened their faces.
Ji Tingzhou was finally satisfied.
But there was one person Ji Tingzhou couldn't control, even after glaring at her, she still smiled brightly.
"Dad, work hard~"
Sadly...
By dinner time, Ji Nian went downstairs expecting to have some fun teasing Ji Tingzhou but found he wasn't there.
"Is Dad not coming down for dinner tonight?"
He had been quite busy these past few days, often skipping meals and having the servants bring food to his room.
Just as she asked, Zhiliao came hurrying over.
"Has the doctor arrived yet?"
Hearing about a doctor being called, Ji Nian, after Zhiliao finished speaking, asked, "What doctor, Sister Zhiliao? Who's sick? Is it Dad?"
Zhiliao gently stroked Ji Nian's cheek and whispered, "Don't worry, it's nothing serious, just a fever."
Upon hearing that Ji Tingzhou had a fever, Ji Nian didn't even finish her sentence before turning and sprinting upstairs.
When she reached the door, before she could enter, she heard Ji Tingzhou's voice filled with rage coming from inside.
"It's all that damned sickly fellow's fault."
Even in this state, he still found the energy to blame his illness on Chen Mo. Ji Nian didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
What do you think?
