Chapter 114
The doctor drew the liquid out of the bottle and prepared to inject it, following Ji Nian's instructions.
Although he was carrying out the order, the doctor didn't really hold much hope.
The Lu Family's team had exhausted all their efforts without success, so what could this small vial of medicine possibly do? If it were truly that powerful, why would it remain unknown?
As the doctor injected Lu Jinghuai, he peeled back a small section of the bandage to reveal a menacing fragment of the wound. A hint of sadness flickered in his eyes as he looked at it.
If only their young master could pull through...
After administering the injection in two doses as Ji Nian instructed, the doctor glanced at her.
She stood by the bed, quietly observing the figure on the bed.
The beeping of the medical equipment echoed in the room, which was heavy with the scent of disinfectant, interwoven with faint traces of blood. It was deathly quiet, as if cut off from the world outside.
The child, wrapped entirely in bandages, lay motionless on the bed, a breathing mask covering his face. His chest barely rose and fell, and if not for the faint blips on the heart monitor, one might have thought he was already a corpse.
[I thought I might get to see the little prince...]
But the moment Ji Nian saw the child on the bed, she realized his face must have been destroyed like his limbs.@@novelbin@@
It would take some time for the medication to take effect. As Ji Nian stepped outside, the sounds of argument still filled the air.
At the sight of her, the voices abruptly ceased.
The chief pharmacist quickly led a group of people inside to check on Lu Jinghuai's condition.
After personally confirming that his condition was even worse than she had anticipated, Ji Nian knew she had to hurry back and prepare the antidote.
Jessica, fully aware of their young master's condition, couldn't bear to look closely at the once beautiful boy now reduced to such a state. Even an ordinary person would likely feel a chill at the sight of a living child covered in bloody, pus-soaked bandages.
But Ji Nian showed little reaction to Lu Jinghuai's suffering, maintaining her composure even in the face of the pharmacist's questioning.
While Zuo Yi's face was as chilly as frozen splinters, she remained unaffected.
Her emotional stability was eerily calm, or perhaps it could be interpreted as absolute confidence.
Jessica's originally tense heart eased imperceptibly when it met Ji Nian's gaze. She began to believe subconsciously.
She couldn't help but think that if the young master could make it through this, the two children might get along well...
"Let's go," Ji Nian said to Zuo Yi.
Her calmness was merely because her mind was fully occupied with thoughts of the antidote, leaving no room for anything else.
Zuo Yi nodded, escorting her out with Wei Yang on her other side.
After Ji Nian left,
The pharmacists anxiously checked on Lu Jinghuai's condition, secretly holding a faint glimmer of hope.
But when they saw that he was still on the brink of death, breathing heavily with diminishing vital signs, one of them muttered, "I knew it wouldn't work."
He lowered his head in regret, "The head of the family left everything to me before he left, and I couldn't save the young master..."
"The medicine hadn't even been tested, and we injected it directly into the young master. It's my fault for not protecting him... It's all my fault."
His voice choked with emotion.
The doctors following him also wore expressions of deep self-reproach.
"No... it's our fault..."
Some even started to blame others: "What were they thinking, delaying things... it's useless. Are they treating this like a playground visit for kids?"
At first, when they heard about the medicine brought by the Ji Family, they had clung to a shred of hope.
But when they learned it wasn't from Bruce's hand and that even the person delivering the medicine was just a child, they felt a sense of humiliation, as if they had been deliberately deceived.
"Quiet down," the pharmacist finally spoke up, silencing them.
"Let the young master have some peace..."
"All of you, get out."
At his rebuke, everyone lowered their heads in shame.
Just as they turned to leave,
The doctor who had initially injected the medicine Ji Nian brought let out a surprised exclamation: "Huh!?"
"Look at the cardiac monitor!"
At this, everyone instinctively looked up.
To their astonishment, the steadily declining numbers on the monitor had, without anyone noticing, begun to climb back up gradually.
"Young Master!?"
The pharmacist couldn't believe his eyes when he saw the boy on the bed opening his eyes slightly.
Dimmed by illness, the once dazzling silver-gray eyes now appeared slightly dull.
His gaze didn't rest on the people around him, their faces filled with joy-tinged tears, but instead, he strained to look towards the door.
Could it be... you?
...
In the palace.
Contrary to the expected confinement, Lu Zhi sat in a luxurious chair adorned with elaborate oyster shell and rose patterns, his demeanor calm as if in his own home. He looked disdainfully at the man opposite him.
"Dear Lide, I've said it before, one needs evidence for such matters. Does the council know about your overstepping your bounds?"
Manlai III, Lide, stood tall before Lu Zhi. Unlike his sister and brother, Lide had brown hair and blue eyes.
His appearance could be described as ordinary, even unremarkable, with a prominent hooked nose and deep-set eyes that gave him a stern, unapproachable look.
"Evidence?"
"My poor nephew is living proof of what happened."
"The poor child, harmed by his own father, unable to even speak up for himself. As his uncle, it falls upon me to seek justice for him."
"And my dear sister, you despicable Chinese man, where have you hidden her?"
Though his words sounded sympathetic, his face showed no sign of pity; instead, he looked provocatively at Lu Zhi.
Feia was under his control, and as long as Lu Jinghuai died, Lu Zhi's downfall would be complete.
Lu Zhi thought, this is truly reversing heaven and earth, with the thief calling the pursuer a thief.
Veins on his hand pulsed silently, but his face remained calm and smiling.
"Lide, are you really sure you want to push this too far?"
"Over the years, Feia has tolerated you time and again, and has long since forgiven the past. Why must you act this way?"
Lide immediately roared, "What do you mean, forgiving me! The throne was mine from the start!!"
He sneered viciously, "Save your strength. Your son is about to die, and as soon as you're gone, I'll send that madwoman Feia to join you. You can all reunite in the afterlife."
He no longer bothered to hide his true intentions.
Suddenly, Lu Zhi chuckled softly.
But his eyes were as cold as if looking at a corpse.
Just a little more time, soon, very soon, he would be able to return.
Ah Huai... you must hold on, wait for me.
What do you think?
