Chapter 221
Ji Nian held Lu Jinghuai's schoolbag, her fingers absently tracing the strap as her gaze drifted to the clouds floating in the sky.
Her mind wandered back to the brief encounter she’d had with the young royal heir years ago.
And then to Lu Jinghuai’s face now.
She could easily imagine how beautiful and well-behaved he must have been as a child.
[Those Vengeance bastards are truly despicable.]
[How could they lay a hand on someone so young?]
The thought that the world had nearly lost such divine beauty made Ji Nian’s heart ache.
Before she knew it, she was lost in memories of the young heir’s unreal, almost fictional beauty—now she understood why Shen Qingtang was so obsessed with 2D characters.
“What are you thinking about?”
The question snapped Ji Nian out of her daze, and she answered without thinking, “Wondering if my sense of shame was cut off like an umbilical cord. Otherwise, why do I feel so hard?”
System: [………Because you’re shameless.]
A soft chuckle came from behind her. Ji Nian turned and found herself drowning in a shimmering sea of pearl-silver eyes.
The sight ignited an inexplicable frustration in her.
She immediately mentally slapped herself.
Had she lost her mind? The kid wasn’t even eighteen yet.
This was proof of just how terrifyingly attractive Lu Jinghuai was—enough to nearly turn her into a degenerate.
“I was joking,” Ji Nian said, unusually restrained.
Facing someone as pure and sacred as the young royal heir, she couldn’t help feeling like her words were blasphemous.
But Lu Jinghuai simply shook his head. “It’s fine. It was amusing.”
What an understanding boy, not holding it against a worldly person like Ji Nian, steeped in earthly desires.
Of course, the real reason was that Lu Jinghuai, still naive in such matters, hadn’t actually understood her joke.
“Did you finish what you needed to do?” Ji Nian asked.
Lu Jinghuai nodded and reached over to take his schoolbag from her hands, casually picking up hers as well.
It was so natural that Ji Nian didn’t even realize what had happened at first.
Not until she noticed his gaze lingering on her wrist.
“What’s wrong?”
Her slender wrist bore no scars, smooth and flawless.
“Nothing.”
...
Wei Yang had nearly dozed off waiting in the car, wondering why the kid was taking so long today.
Unable to hold back any longer, he opened the car door and peeked out.
His eyes immediately landed on the strikingly harmonious pair walking along the roadside—a young man and woman who looked like they belonged together.
The girl, with her curly hair, was animatedly gesturing as she spoke, while the boy beside her—who, at first glance, could have been mistaken for a girl—listened quietly, his unusually colored eyes fixed intently on her face.
He was even carrying both their schoolbags.
If Ji Nian hadn’t mentioned this was their first meeting, Wei Yang would’ve thought they’d been inseparable since birth.
“Blondie… you…”
Wei Yang’s lips trembled at the sight.
Oblivious, Ji Nian cheerfully led Lu Jinghuai over. “Wei Yang-ge, why didn’t you wait in the car?”
Noticing Wei Yang’s sharp stare at Lu Jinghuai, she quickly introduced them. “This is Lu Zhi’s son, Lu Jinghuai.”
Then, helpfully, she added for Lu Jinghuai’s sake, “This is Wei Yang.”
Lu Jinghuai nodded politely. “Hello, Wei Yang-ge. I’m Lu Jinghuai.”
Wei Yang shuddered, snapping out of his daze.
He’d met Lu Zhi many times, but this was his first encounter with the man’s son.
His eyes swept over Lu Jinghuai’s face, and his heart skipped a beat.
This was exactly Ji Nian’s type…
A glance at Ji Nian’s expression—which only those close to her would recognize as genuinely happy—confirmed it.
He’d expected her to still be upset over that Li Yuan situation…
Honestly, how did Lu Zhi—a man who looked like a fox—and Princess Feia, whose regal bearing made people avert their eyes, produce a son who looked like this?
“…Hello,” Wei Yang managed.
“I’ll take that.”
He stepped forward and snatched Ji Nian’s schoolbag from Lu Jinghuai’s hands.
Only then did Ji Nian realize her bag had ended up with Lu Jinghuai. When had that happened?
Before she could ask, Wei Yang hurried her into the car, muttering about how sweaty she was.
As they settled in, Wei Yang deliberately positioned himself between the two, sitting next to Ji Nian.
He’d never been this wary of even Gu Xiuyuan, but something about Lu Jinghuai screamed danger—like he needed to keep him far away from Ji Nian.
Just then, the earpiece behind his ear crackled to life, his subordinate’s voice reporting:
“Boss, Li Yuan, who was taken away half an hour ago, just bit his lawyer and escaped.”
“From the surveillance footage, he’s heading toward the school.”
Wei Yang’s eyes flicked to the window.
“I’ve already picked them up. Notify Li Zhiqiang—tell him to get his son under control.”
Though she didn’t know who “Li Zhiqiang” was, the surname made Ji Nian pause as she handed Lu Jinghuai a juice box.
“Li Yuan’s father?”
Wei Yang nodded.
“Don’t worry, Ji Nian. It’s nothing serious.”
Though Ji Tingzhou was furious.
Ji Nian nodded, showing no sign of being affected by the incident. With a faint smile, she said, "I'm going back to tell Dad about this."
Wei Yang couldn't help but chuckle at her words.
If she was heading home to complain about being wronged, his brother definitely wouldn’t be angry anymore.
In fact, he might even be so pleased that he’d make Li Yuan and his father leave S City on their own two feet.
"Who’s Li Yuan?"
Lu Jinghuai held the juice bottle Ji Nian had handed him, his fingers brushing against the condensation forming on the cold surface. He voiced his question with mild curiosity.
Ji Nian glanced at Lu Jinghuai, who sat across from her with an air of detachment.
She skipped over the specifics of Li Yuan’s insults, simply summarizing them as "extremely offensive," and recounted the incident from start to finish.
After listening, Lu Jinghuai nodded in understanding.
"Did you hit him yourself?"
Ji Nian bobbed her head, casually tucking a stray lock of hair behind her ear.
"Yep, I punched him."
She mimed a fist, the faint redness from the earlier scuffle already faded after applying ointment twice.
Lu Jinghuai pressed his lips together, suppressing a smile, and praised sincerely, "You’re amazing."
His compliment was so earnest that Ji Nian felt a little embarrassed.
"It’s nothing special..."
Noticing his lingering gaze, she wondered if something was on her face and instinctively touched her cheek.
"What is it?"
Lu Jinghuai shook his head. "Nothing."
Then he reached over and twisted open the cap of her juice bottle for her.
He was just thinking...
That guy Li Yuan...
was really lucky.
Beside them, Wei Yang watched their interaction, half-tempted to pull out a handkerchief and gnaw on it in frustration.
Were these two really meeting for the first time today???
What do you think?
