Too late
The Galactic people and pokemon struggled to deal with all of this at once and soon one of them made a mistake. It was a small one, easily forgiven in any other situation. One of the grunts Pigeotto made a slight miscalculation about how one of my threads was going to move and thus got a shallow slash on it's wing that slowed it down ever so slightly. Unfortunately for it my threads did not slow down with it and soon it started to take on more and more injuries until it finally couldn't fly anymore and fell out the sky right along with the grunt riding it.-
The loss of that grunt tipped the precarious balance that had been established in my favor as it freed up a small piece of my attention letting me focus even more effort on the rest. It soon became too much as yet another grunt plummeted to their death after their pokemon was incapacitated by Rune. One after another the grunts fell with only Mars proving able to withstand our onslaught even if only through extreme effort and the innate speed a Crobat held.-
Zubat and Golbat weren't overly fast but that changed upon reaching the third evolution of the line. Crobat were notorious speed demons that had nearly unrivaled flight speed due to their aerodynamic bodies and two pairs of wings. A royal member of the line was as a result especially agile in the air and thus even while under such extreme pressure could keep Mars safe on it's back. It didn't matter however as from the distance a loud explosion sounded off and I sighed as I realized that I was too late. The lakes defenses had been breached and the explosives set already.-
"You've lost! Even if you strike me down this very moment the lake guardian will have already been moved back to the lab by the time you arrive at the lake!" Mars yelled mockingly. My aura unconsciously sharpened as I focused my gaze on her and spoke "So be it". I reached behind me and pulled my spear out of it's holster. I rotated it so it rested on my palm with my thumb pointed towards it's pummel. My legs tightened around Runes back and my aura pulsed as I reinforced my muscles with it.-
I did not even need to speak my intent as Hades smoky form curled ominously around my arm and hand and it's own aura fused into my own. My spear glowed in a grim light as purple ghostly flames roared to life on it's head. I cocked back my arm and Rune and Tank made sure that even knowing what was coming Mars was helpless to flee. Finally I wrapped my threads around the spears handle and with a loud shout of effort threw the spear as hard as I could. "BOOM!" it was as if a bolt of thunder had crashed down from the sky as the very air shook at my spears passing.-
Mars barely had the time to feel the icy chill of death approaching before the ghostly flame covered spear head went through her chest and out her back in one fluid motion. Her final expression was one of shock as her legs released their hold on her pokemon and her body fell from the sky. Her Crobat screeched in grief and rage before unleashing every ounce of power it had at me in hopes of killing me but I merely flicked my fingers with no expression as the threads around my spear returned the weapon to me.-
Cyrus may have succeeded in getting the first of the three lake guardians but with Mars killed by me he paid a very heavy price for it. I highly doubted that he or even Mars had expected her to be killed in this mission of hers as her job was merely to delay me until the work was done. With her Crobat she should have in theory been able to escape at the end as none of my aerial pokemon were even close to as fast but my gloves changed that. -
They lacked the knowledge of my gloves existence and so hadn't ben able to take them into account leading to this outcome. The Crobat failed to kill me with it's attack and soon after joined Mars in death as I and my pokemon boxed it in and ripped it apart. "Continue to the lake." I commanded Rune and he accelerated towards the lake. When we arrived I immediately spotted the forces stationed around the area to protect it and released Yani to save those we could. The battle with the forces of Galactic had done mostly superficial damage but being unable to escape the blast wave had done serious damage.-
Shattered eardrums, collapsed lungs, broken bones, severe bruising and in a few cases death were seen in both the people of the league and their pokemon. Yani and I worked tirelessly to heal the most life threatening injuries we could but we were but two with dozens of injured to deal with alone. Sadly this meant that even with our best effort another six people and pokemon died from their injuries by the time the reinforcements from the league arrived. Leading them was Gym leader Candice.-
She was a tall narrow girl with long twin tails for her hair and a light blue and white outfit that included a skirt for some reason. "What happened here!?" she demanded as she stepped off her ice variant Staraptor. "Galactic happened. I received information that said they were making a move on the lake and was coming to help in the defense but was held back by one of the admins. I arrived only after the explosion was over and Galactic had left, currently tending the wounded." I said succinctly. "How dare they do this!" she fumed angrily but quickly cooled her temper to start barking orders.-
Thankfully no one else died but the recovery process was going to be quite long for nearly all those injured. Eventually I had finished all that I could reasonably do in a short period of time and got the chance to see the devastation the explosion did to the lake. It was a scene I'll never forget. Almost all the water was missing and the few pokemon that survived the bombings were struggling to survive off of it. The lakes bottom was pockmarked with craters and viscera from the unfortunate pokemon caught in the explosions.-
At the center of the lake stood the small island that held the cave of the lake guardian that had been fully exposed by the explosions. I sighed at this scene and channeled my ability to conjure water from my aura and even if it was a mere five or so gallons at a time worked to fill the craters with water while putting the still living pokemon in these small "ponds" of water. It was not a long term solution but it was enough to relieve the stress on them a little and that was enough.
What do you think?
