Chapter 389 - 25: Demon Fetus
Boom!
Suddenly, a dull sound rang in Xiao Buli’s ears, low and powerful, making the ground under his feet tremble. The sound shocked Xiao Buli; could there be more than just that giant python living in this cave? If something could coexist with the python, then it must be strong, so Xiao’s first thought was to run away.
But after a careful look around the cave, no trace of anything could be found, as if the sound had come from deep beneath the ground. Xiao wondered if the cave was going to collapse. Although his scuffle with the python had caused rocks to fly about, the walls were intact, without even a significant crack - it seemed unlikely to collapse so easily.
As Xiao was pondering, Boom!
Another loud sound. This time, Xiao, facing the cavern, saw it clearly. He was certain the sound was coming from within this chamber, but he couldn’t pinpoint where exactly.
"Hey, Xiao, you heard that?" Yi Xuan ran back from the cave he had been searching. Xiao nodded. Before pinpointing the source of the sound, he cautiously swept his gaze around the spacious cavern a few times, finding nothing unusual in the entire chamber.
Boom! This time Xiao saw clearly that the first to vibrate was the large rock in the middle, which seemed to have something challenging it from within. Xiao approached the boulder cautiously. It had seemed strange to him from the start, but in his haste to check on his newly acquired pet, he hadn’t studied it in detail. Now, upon closer inspection, although the boulder’s surface was dark, it seemed to possess a dim, dull luster, unremarkable at first glance, but strangely intricate upon closer observation.
Boom! The sound echoed again, startling Xiao, who then noticed a blurred flash of light from within the boulder. The flash, passing quickly and obscured by the thick stone, was indistinct.
Xiao hurriedly activated the Omniscient Eye. Though it had the ability to see through objects, this boulder allowed only a vague view inside. Upon close examination, Xiao discerned a hazy human-shaped shadow hidden within.
The shadow seemed to sense his probing, curled up quietly inside the rock, then suddenly lunged towards him. Seeing it clearly, Xiao was startled and took two quick steps back. Discover more stories at NovelBin.Côm
Boom, the boulder resounded again with no other change. It seemed that there truly was a secret hidden within this stone; could it actually be a stone egg?
For some reason, Sun Wukong popped into Xiao’s mind - wasn’t that monkey also nurtured by nature, born from a stone? Could it be that they had come across an even mightier boss?
As Xiao hesitated about whether to make a quick escape, Yi Xuan, seeing no harm and approaching cautiously, suddenly discovered something.
"Xiao, what’s this?" Yi typed out.
Xiao took a few steps closer to Yi, where he saw some patterns faintly visible on the dark stone, glowing with an orange-yellow light. When the glow faded, one couldn’t distinguish the traces on the black stone, but after a while, the patterns slowly lit up again.
"These markings, they look like seals," Yi explained. His expertise was in talismans; Xiao trusted Yi’s judgment, believing the patterns were not simple.
Xiao stepped forward, placing his hand on the stone, feeling it warm to the touch, smooth and delicate, unlike its rough and tough exterior. Absently caressing it, a strange sensation spread from his fingertips, a comfort that immersed Xiao as if he was once more a child nestled in his mother’s embrace, that sense of security and warmth enveloping him, making him lose track of his surroundings.
????: "It’s been a long time," a gentle voice suddenly rang in Xiao’s ears, startling him. He realized that the voice wasn’t coming from around him but directly into his mind, much like his Heart Demon, yet completely different; besides gentleness, Xiao could distinctly feel weariness in the voice.
"Have we met before?" Having experience conversing with his Heart Demon, Xiao quickly grasped how to communicate with this voice.
????: "In a distant dream, I saw you at the moment of obliteration, during the great battle between Gonggong and Zhurong, I saw you there."
"The battle between Gonggong and Zhurong?" Xiao suddenly remembered – could it be from that time in the library, in the replica? Back then, Xiao had entered a replica of the Heavenly Palace, embodying one of the Heavenly Gods, experiencing firsthand what had transpired. However, the replica session was brief, not particularly conclusive, and the characters were merely figures from mythological tales. Therefore, Xiao didn’t have a lasting impression. Only now, as the voice mentioned it, did he recall.
"But aren’t those just projections and memories?" How could those be related to the memories of an object in reality? A strange thought emerged at the bottom of Xiao’s heart. Could it be that he was still inside the replica, never having left? Only this could explain why interactions with the images in the replica could be perceived by his actual self.
What do you think?
