Chapter 410 - 36 Refining Magical Treasure
Xiao Buli was anxious, carefully preparing each material listed, and treating one or two of them as specified. The first Magical Treasure he was making was the Giant Spirit Scepter, which required materials including Divine Wood Essence, which he had excavated from an Earth-Wood Type giant, gathering only two pieces. Additionally, he needed five pieces of Golden Shine Stone and three pieces of Night Crystal Stone. These items were in abundance in Xiao Buli's backpack, along with some inner cores from animals he had defeated at Wangliang Mountain, which he thought were useless at the time but now proved to be quite useful. Xiao Buli sorted out the items and dumped them all into the Furnace.
When he pressed the start button, the Melting Furnace began to rotate slowly, gradually increasing its speed until the centrifugal force it generated caused it to tremble on the ground. Xiao Buli felt everything in the room, including the tools on his workbench, start to shake. Fortunately, this didn't last long—it was only a matter of minutes before the Furnace finally went "puff," releasing a puff of white smoke and a flash of white light inside.
Xiao Buli heard a pleasant notification sound in his ears, "System notification: Successful creation of a level 4 Magical Treasure 'Giant Spirit Scepter,' item 'Giant Spirit Scepter' obtained."
System notification: You have successfully crafted a level 4 Magical Treasure; your Refining Treasures skill has been upgraded to LV5.
Xiao Buli was delighted. He hadn't expected to succeed in crafting the Magical Treasure on his first try. He had prepared an extra set of materials just in case he needed another attempt. After all, crafting Magical Treasures required luck, and failure was sometimes inevitable.
After removing the Giant Spirit Scepter from the Melting Furnace, Xiao Buli did not take the time to examine it closely but, seizing the momentum, immediately began preparing the materials for the Obsidian Crystal Coffin. This Refinement process differed from that of a conventional Magical Treasure. Initially, when he had obtained the blueprint, Xiao Buli was also confused. The blueprint did not specify the exact materials and quantities but instead dictated based on Attributes, such as when creating the first layer; the blueprint described, "When red light rises in the Melting Furnace, insert Fire Element Spirit Stones until the Furnace's rotation slows down." This left Xiao Buli feeling uncertain; there were many types of Fire Element Spirit Stones—could all be used? Would different Fire Element Spirit Stones affect the Refinement result? How much of a slowdown in the Furnace's rotation was sufficient? These vague concepts made Xiao Buli somewhat at a loss.
It reminded him of an article he had read stating that German kitchens resembled laboratories, equipped with scales, timers, and the like. When Germans cooked eggs, they would start timing with a stopwatch as soon as they placed the eggs in boiling water, removing them at a precise time. This is why they couldn't cook Chinese cuisine; most Chinese recipes use ambiguous measurements like "a handful of Sichuan peppercorns" or "a pinch of salt," leaving Germans baffled. At this moment, Xiao Buli felt like a German trying to cook Chinese food. He believed that someone with extensive experience in crafting Magical Treasures might not be confused by such vague instructions, but Xiao Buli had only reached level 5 and had been accustomed to blueprints with precise quantities and specific material names.
Nevertheless, the one thing he had plenty of was a variety of Spirit Stones, and now he had to rely on quantity. If all else failed, he could try several times. With this in mind, Xiao Buli took out the Spirit Stones from his bag, sorted them according to the Five Elements, and returned those whose Attributes he couldn't quite determine. Before long, he had six piles of stones of various colors before him, with five piles corresponding to the Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth Elements and the sixth pile, dark and obscure, consisting mainly of Obsidian for the Magical Treasure.
With these prepared, Xiao Buli started the Melting Furnace, first placing a stone similar to Cat's Eye Stone called Elf Eye inside, then leaving the lid of the Furnace open and stoking the flames. The Furnace quickly heated up, and white smoke began to billow inside. However, the smoke didn't rise out of the Furnace but swirled within. Xiao Buli watched the color of the smoke intently until it turned a greyish-black, upon which he hastily added Obsidian. He put the Obsidian in piece by piece until the Furnace began to rotate slowly, then stopped, having used about a dozen pieces. Xiao Buli quickly checked the blueprint and prepared the Fire Element Spirit Stones at hand. When the Furnace's rotation accelerated and a beam of red light emerged, Xiao Buli hurriedly threw in the Fire Element Spirit Stones. Unsure of the exact quantity needed, he kept adding stones, one after another, while closely monitoring the Furnace's rotation. Finally, the Furnace slowed down, much like a person burdened with too much weight.
Then the Furnace underwent another transformation; a wisp of purple smoke began to rise from within. Knowing that the appearance of purple smoke meant he should add Water Element Spirit Stones, Xiao Buli hurried over, grabbed a handful, and tossed them into the Furnace. He threw in the Spirit Stones one by one, waiting for the color of the smoke to change. Suddenly, the Furnace came to a slow halt. Xiao Buli quickly grabbed the blueprint, puzzled. The blueprint didn't indicate that the Furnace would stop at this point. While Xiao Buli hovered in confusion, the smoke inside the Furnace turned black and wasn't controlled within the Furnace as before. Instead, plumes of black smoke, accompanied by a burnt smell, instantly filled the room, causing Xiao Buli to cough repeatedly. Fortunately, it seemed the room was equipped with a ventilation system. Xiao Buli wasn't sure what spell was at work, but all the black smoke suddenly escaped from the exhaust vent at the top of the room, and his vision gradually cleared.
What do you think?
