Abyssal Sovereign: The Demon's Dominion

Chapter 178 - 177: the truth about the immortal realm

Silence reigned as Kai looked down at the kneeling, bloodied Li Hai.

Kai wasn't just a Kai in this timeline—he was all the Kais merged together. He was whole now, and that meant he knew everything. He knew their plans, their hopes, and the war that had spanned across five hundred timelines.

That sigh, those words he had spoken…

They held more meaning than anyone around could ever understand.

Sigh "Li Hai… show me your last struggle," Kai muttered as Li Hai slowly looked up.

Those eyes, that body, that shape—li hai had seen it too many times. For five hundred years, he had been the one constantly kneeling in the dirt, drenched in blood, weak, and on the verge of death. He was always the last survivor, though others had suffered the torment of death too.

But his torment… it was different. Imagine centuries of battling the same enemy, only to lose—every single time.

It was like facing an immovable wall, an untouchable force.

Terrifying. It had become a mental demon he could never overcome.

…Or could he?

"Kai… for hundreds of timelines… you killed us," Li Hai said, his voice low, "and from what you just said, it seems… we're not the only ones who retain our memories after going back in time…"

He gave a small smile.

He finally understood. No wonder their plans always failed. No wonder they always lost.

"Haha, no," Kai said, shaking his head. Li Hai froze.

What did he mean?

"This is the first time I've awakened everything. I always gave you all a chance… even without knowing, I always won. And you… always died," Kai said calmly.

Something broke in Li Hai.

His will. His belief. All of it—gone.

It meant that even with all their supposed advantages… they were just ants leaping at a tiger.

"Li Hai," Kai said, voice steady, "your only chance of survival is your trump card. Use it."

Kai saw the hesitation in Li Hai's eyes.

His friends were dead. This card—once used—if those two fought, the world would be destroyed…

"Hahaha… yeah. What am I doing? They're already gone. They can't come back."

Li Hai's eyes cleared.

"What's the point?"

He pulled out an ancient scroll.

Seeing it made Kai freeze.

"I've never seen this before…" he thought, shocked, as Li Hai opened the scroll and began chanting.

Time froze.

Silence stretched for several long minutes.

"…Is that it?" Kai asked, disappointed.

Li Hai stared at the scroll, stunned, his expression dark and bitter.

"I… but…" Li Hai stammered.

Their final plan—the last line of defense—had failed. No Abyssal Demon. Nothing. Just a lie. A scam. A cruel joke.

With a hollow laugh, the light left his eyes.

Li Hai was dead.

Finally, it was over. Their years of preparation, their reincarnations—all of it… wasted.

"Even after everything, you failed to see the struggle was futile. All of it was nonsense," Kai muttered, staring at Li Hai's corpse.

A long silence followed.

Then—

"Is it?" a deep voice echoed.

Kai's heart skipped a beat.

He turned around—and saw a being smiling at him.

His body trembled. His dreams… his visions… they all overlapped.

This was the being. The one that hunted him.

He shut his eyes in disbelief. Opened them again.

The smile was still there.

And on the being's raised arm… was a woman. Bloodied. Barely alive.

"Su Yiren…" Kai whispered in shock.

The being's grin widened.

"Hahahaha… what?" the being said.

Kai clenched his fists. Gritted his teeth. His eyes turned blood-red—until the being spoke again.

"Still continuing the illusion? Really?"

Kai's expression flattened. The rage vanished.

"You can see it?" he asked.

Su Yiren turned to dust. Then the bodies of all those Kai had killed disintegrated too.

"This is just a patched-up reality," the being said. "I can not only see it—I can destroy it."

He waved his hand.

Everything faded.

An entire reality… gone.

"Who are you?" Kai asked, now standing in a deep layer of space. At their feet, a plain ten-meter-wide platform formed.

On it: a table, two chairs, and hot brewing tea.

"Sit," the being said calmly, taking a seat. Light shimmered as Kai sat down, eyes locked on the tea—then on the being's face.

Slightly dark skin. Handsome. A devilish charm.

"Void," the being said as Kai raised an eyebrow.

"Unique name," Kai commented.

"Thanks. You've got a lot of questions, right?" Void said, sipping tea.

Kai frowned slightly. "You were summoned by the scroll?"

Void nodded. "Basically. But I'm more interested—don't you feel it, Kai? Who you really are?"

How does he know my name? Kai was shaken inside but showed no emotion.

"You're the one I've been seeing?" he asked calmly.

Void nodded. "More or less. You've been seeing me… and myself."

"…Meaning?" Kai asked, confused.

Void's smile widened.

"You're my clone, boy."

Kai's expression shifted. "Clone…?" he muttered.

Void gave him time.

To Void, this was shocking too. After arriving, he'd checked the clone's memories—and discovered terrifying truths.

Hundreds of thousands of years ago, this clone entered a ruin alongside other powerful geniuses, each chasing a way to grow stronger. That ruin—filled with secrets that could change the Immortal Realm.

But the clone lost control.

He awakened his demon form and rose to the peak of Rank 2. As a demon, he overpowered everyone. Killed them all. Consumed the Immortal Realm.

Years later, he recovered. His normal form had reached the peak of Rank 2—but it was too late to fix anything.

So he cultivated.

Eventually, he broke through to Quasi-Rank 3—a realm where time, space, and reality could be bent.

And he did just that.

He warped space. Twisted time. Forged a new Immortal Realm.

Then gave his friends and others illusions that they were alive—that everything was normal.

But it wasn't.

Their memories were altered. Set to mimic who they once were.

They weren't living.

They were trapped.

To keep this going, he needed an anchor—himself. He portrayed himself as the villain and made them hate him. As a Quasi-Rank 3 being, he couldn't fully alter reality because he hadn't stepped outside of time and space yet.

So instead, he had to kill them. The difference was that he used Montel as a secondary anchor to bring them back to life and then sacrifice himself to serve as a weapon against him. They would reincarnate five hundred times, their memories intact, so they could devise a plan to kill him.

All of this… just to keep the reality stable. Otherwise, it would collapse upon itself.

For Void, this would've been a true act of creation—real reality bending. But unfortunately, Kai was only a newly ascended Quasi-Rank 3 being. In contrast, Void was already a Quasi-Middle Level Rank 3. The gap between them was immeasurable.

"Such a thing… You're a psychopath," Void muttered, snapping Kai out of his thoughts.

"I accept that. In the end, I couldn't keep them alive. They all died," Kai said calmly.

Void smiled. "It's rare for one of my clones to have emotions."

(You only have two clones, Host...)

"Yes, I know. Let me pretend a bit longer, damnit," Void replied irritably.

Grinning at Kai, Void repeated each word deliberately:

"I hate weakness. I feel like you're not me… but still, I want you to die."

Void stood up.

A terrifying aura descended, distorting space. Not only that—the surrounding planets and even distant worlds trembled, feeling as though death itself had come.

Time dilated. Space began to collapse as layers of reality peeled away like fragile paper.

"So strong… He's terrifyingly strong," Kai thought, feeling like an ant in a raging sea—or rather, a speck of dust compared to a galaxy. It wasn't just a difference in power; it was a change in existence.

Void wasn't merely a being connected to space and time—he stood outside of it.

A fifth-dimensional being. A true abyssal demon.

Was this… the true strength of the Abyssal Demon?
