Chapter 117: Chapter 117: The Truth is He Doesn’t Have a Mistress
“I had someone buy it,” Bi Yuanhang said.
He was helping out at the county hospital, and some nurses added him on WeChat. One of the nurses, from Shi Tou Town, was a gem proxy buyer, so he had her purchase one.
When Weina received the gem, she smiled faintly and said softly, “Thank you.”
But she didn’t wear it, simply placing the box in the drawer.
Bi Yuanhang felt heartbroken, as if pricked by a needle again.
He walked in and then sat behind her. “Weina, this Lunar New Year, I won’t go back anywhere. I’ll stay here with you.”
“It’s up to you,” she said indifferently.
“But after the New Year, I might be called back. There’s a medical team in Feng City, and they’ve been waiting for me to return.”
Weina was combing her hair, paused for a moment, then nodded her head, “Then you should hurry back. I can tell you’re a promising doctor. Do well after you return.”
Bi Yuanhang’s heart ached again. He took a deep breath, then couldn’t help but embrace Weina. “Weina, come with me.”
Weina chuckled, “I don’t want to go.”
“Do you still not let go of him? He’s been gone for so many years. By tying your life here, can you bring him back to life?”
“What if I follow you and you change your heart later, wanting to break up with me?” Weina asked.
She and her boyfriend had once sworn eternal love, he said he’d marry her after being discharged from the military, but when their wedding day drew near, he wanted to break up.
Bi Yuanhang guaranteed, “Weina, I’m not the kind of man who easily changes his heart. If you come back with me, I will treat you well for my entire life, and only you.”
Weina placed her finger on Bi Yuanhang’s mouth, then smiled, “You shouldn’t speak too soon about everything. God might strike with lightning.”
Bi Yuanhang was speechless.
Knowing he couldn’t persuade her, he sat for a while longer then left his room.
Bi Yuanhang knew he couldn’t stay in Wu Bian Town forever.
He had a mother and sister, though his mother was far away in Canada, he would eventually bring her back to stay close.
After his father passed away, it wasn’t easy for his mother to raise them. He owed her a better life, to let her enjoy her old age.
Moreover, from a realistic standpoint, the education and medical environment here were far inferior to Feng City; he couldn’t let love blind him into rooting his future generations here.
Bi Yuanhang was tormented all night, and the next day, once again took a ride to work at the county hospital.
He now needed to assist the oncology department in treating a patient.
Originally, such a patient should be transferred to a city hospital, but since this patient was a beneficiary under a government welfare program, the reimbursement ratio at the county hospital was much higher than at city hospitals, so he adamantly refused to leave the province.
Thus, the county hospital had to gather all capable personnel.
That day, after they drew blood and completed tests for the patient, Bi Yuanhang and the department head stepped out together.
The head sighed, “Today went smoothly; hopefully, the tumor doesn’t get worse.”
Bi Yuanhang asked, “Has our hospital only treated this one patient?”
“Strictly speaking, yes. Many patients have been checked here, then transferred to other hospitals for treatment.”
The head, suddenly remembering something, said, “No, that’s not right. There was one who was treated for a while but eventually sacrificed. He was a soldier.”
“Treated halfway and then sacrificed?”
“Yes, it was a malignant tumor. I predicted he didn’t have many years left. He said there was no need to transfer to another hospital and chose to be treated here, but he passed before the surgery. This has always weighed on my mind; I’ve never forgotten it.”
Bi Yuanhang asked, “Do his family members also not know?”
“He initially told me not to inform his family. Moreover, after his death, he was declared a martyr. I’m not sure if his illness contributed to his decision, like if he knew he was going to die and thus stood up courageously. It might affect his reputation, so I never mentioned it to his unit.”
Bi Yuanhang suddenly realized something. “Can I take a look at his medical record?”
“Sure, everything is archived in the computer. I’ll pull it up for you.”
Thinking Bi Yuanhang wanted to refer to that person’s medical record for study, the head pulled up all the examination and lab reports.
And Bi Yuanhang, seeing the name on the medical record, the man Weina both loved and hated in her heart, was the same person!
That night, Bi Yuanhang came back.
He returned very early; the small restaurant hadn’t closed yet.
“Why did you come back?” Weina asked.
Traveling back and forth three hours every day, how can your body handle it?
“Weina, come inside with me,” Bi Yuanhang said.
“What is it?”
“I have something very important to tell you.”
Weina glanced at the file folder Bi Yuanhang was holding, thinking it might be his work relocation order, perhaps he was here to say goodbye.
So, she explained her previous tasks to Xiao Cui, then followed Bi Yuanhang inside.
Inside the room, Bi Yuanhang moved a chair over. He asked Weina to sit on the bed, while he sat facing her.
“Weina, you don’t want to leave Wu Bian Town, you want an answer right?” Weina looked displeased. “Didn’t we discuss this issue last night? Why are you bringing it up again?”
Bi Yuanhang said, “The reason you stay here is because you believe your husband couldn’t have changed his heart, but you also don’t fully trust yourself. So, you’ve been confining yourself, unwilling to believe that there are still men in this world who love you, right?”
Weina glared at him furiously. “What exactly are you trying to say?”
“Your husband has always loved you. The reason he broke up with you was because he was afraid of burdening you, afraid that you couldn’t let go of him. But what he didn’t anticipate was that you indeed couldn’t let go, and you followed him here.”
“How do you know?” Weina asked.
Bi Yuanhang handed her the file folder, “See for yourself. He didn’t have a mistress, nor was he emotionally unfaithful. He just knew he didn’t have long to live, which is why he broke up with you. He’s an honorable man, a man of responsibility. He wanted you to have a good life, not to keep yourself trapped here!”
Weina looked at the document, her fingers trembling.
After struggling to hold it, she then opened it.
The diagnosis report came out just a week before he said he wanted to break up.
Tears streamed down her face as she read.
Bi Yuanhang knew this process would happen, so he didn’t go to embrace her, just let her cry quietly.
He had secretly asked Da Liu previously; Weina’s deceased husband had died fighting criminals at the border, shot six times. Regardless of whether he had been sick, he was undeniably a martyr.
…
Feng City.
Qiu Yurou had Mdm. Zhang call Su Meixi early in the morning, saying she wanted a Western breakfast.
Su Meixi was woken up before 6 a.m., feeling very displeased.
She murmured to herself three times, “husband’s dear mother, husband’s dear mother, husband’s dear mother.”
Only then did she hold back her anger and go downstairs.
What do you think?
