Accidentally Married to the Big Shot

Chapter 13 - 13 Civil Affairs Bureau Marriage Registration

Chapter 13: Chapter 13 Civil Affairs Bureau Marriage Registration

In the evening, Meixi woke up and walked into the living room, where she saw Gu Wei engrossed in a military-themed game on his tablet.

She wanted to talk to him, but seeing how seriously he was playing, she decided to return to her room.

However, as soon as Gu Wei turned around and saw her, he immediately paused the game.

“Ah Xi, do you need something?” Gu Wei asked.

Meixi was a bit surprised to see him pause the game.

Men usually get annoyed when someone disturbs them while gaming. When she used to talk with Qi Anran, he even made a rule that she shouldn’t disturb him while he was gaming.

Unexpectedly, Gu Wei stopped as soon as he said he would.

She hesitated for a moment, then said, “Gu Wei, I remember you mentioned last time that getting married requires approval from your unit… has the approval come through?”

Gu Wei quickly smiled, “You asked right on time. I just received the notice that the approval has come through. We can go to the civil affairs bureau to get our marriage certificate tomorrow.”

“That quickly?”

“Yes, our unit is quite efficient,” Gu Wei said.

Meixi opened her mouth.

She wasn’t sure whether getting married was right or wrong because, after all, there was no love.

But then she thought, did she truly love Gu Wei? It wasn’t out of love, but because she saw that he was a good man who could protect her that she decided to marry him.

The next day, Meixi, carrying her household register and identity card, went with Gu Wei to the civil affairs bureau.

Gu Wei had a military ID, which in principle allowed for priority, but he didn’t use this privilege.

He was dressed as simply as she was, both wearing plain white shirts.

As they waited in line, Meixi looked at the several couples in front of them. Each couple looked sweet, though they were only taking photos. They were all dressed in matching outfits, and the women even wore veils on their heads.

Compared to Meixi and Gu Wei, they were dressed in utter simplicity.

Meixi glanced at Gu Wei, who sat straight and proper, as if he wasn’t there to get married but to attend a meeting.

At that moment, she felt a bit of regret.

But things had progressed to this stage; they were already living in his house, and it didn’t seem right to have regrets now.

Following the procedure, they soon received their certificate as well.

When they walked out of the civil affairs bureau, Meixi felt a mix of emotions inside, indescribable.

The couples that had registered before them were happily taking photos outside, blasting out celebratory messages to friends. Only she and Gu Wei seemed to broadcast one thing: unfamiliarity.

Gu Wei caught up to her with long strides, “Ah Xi, do you have to go back to work in a bit?”

Meixi replied, “Of course, I only asked the director for an hour off.”

Gu Wei looked at his watch, “Then how about we go out for dinner tonight?”

Meixi showed little interest and simply said, “We’ll talk about it tonight.”

Gu Wei looked at Meixi, puzzled.

They say women are fickle, and it’s true; she was completely different before and after marriage, and they had only just gotten married!

Just as Gu Wei was reflecting, Meixi suddenly asked, “Gu Wei, do your parents know we are getting married? It seems… you haven’t introduced me to your parents yet. With such a big matter as marriage, do they agree?”

Gu Wei paused then said, “My family situation is a bit complicated. But don’t worry, they will accept you. After all, marriage is my own business.”

He felt there was no need to notify his parents.

Meixi forced a smile, then said, “It’s okay. Actually, I also feel there’s no need to inform the parents; marriage is a matter between us two. So, I hope we can keep our matters private for now, what do you think?”

Unexpectedly, Gu Wei immediately agreed, “You’re right, that’s also what I meant. Matters made public should be taken slowly.”

Meixi didn’t bother with him anymore, hailing a taxi from the roadside and leaving.

Gu Wei stood there, slightly stunned.

It seemed she was angry.

Had he said something wrong, or done something wrong?

When Meixi arrived at the hospital, she was severely reprimanded by Director Wang. @@novelbin@@

“Meixi, you’re usually early, why are you late today? Didn’t you even make a call?”

Meixi felt wronged, “Director, I asked for leave in the group chat.”

“Asked for leave?” Director Wang checked the department’s work group chat, then looked embarrassed for a moment but soon put on a stern face, “Who asks for leave in a group chat? Don’t you know to send a private message or make a call?”

Meixi felt aggrieved, “But I see other doctors also informing in the group chat when they need leave, and I mentioned it last night.”

“Don’t argue anymore; you didn’t ask, so consider today as a late day for you, half a day of attendance bonus will be deducted,” Director Wang asserted his authority, which was not to be challenged.

Meixi had no choice but to stay quiet.

Today, she wasn’t assigned clinics, but was working in the acupuncture and moxibustion surgery room, where there were quite a few patients waiting. Sister Zhou inside was busy, and breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing Meixi, “Meixi, you’re finally here.”

“Sorry Sister Zhou, I was a bit held up today.”

“It’s alright, get started quickly, the patients are getting impatient.”

Busy until noon, Meixi finally got a break.

She walked out of the treatment room and ran into Li Pingping, who had also just come out of the consultation room.

“Dr. Su, why were you late this morning?” Li Pingping asked smugly.

Meixi paused, then said, “You’re quite informed!”

“Is it because your boyfriend doesn’t have a car, so you had to ride an electric bike to work in the morning? Your boyfriend really should, looking good but not even having a car, and still letting his girlfriend ride an electric bike to work? Without a car or a house, where does a woman’s sense of security come from?”

Meixi scoffed.

She was checking the group messages now. After she had sent her leave request last night, Li Pingping had posted several funny videos in the group, which were funny enough that a few doctors engaged in a discussion about them, and her message got buried.

It was hard to say whether Li Pingping did it on purpose.

Meixi scoffed, “Dr. Li, my boyfriend has a house, a big two-hundred-square-meter apartment with no mortgage. You and your boyfriend still have to pay off your house and car loans, right? I heard your place is only sixty or seventy square meters. Talking about pressure, you have it worse than I do. I really don’t know what you are bragging about.”

Li Pingping’s face turned red, then she rolled her eyes and said, “Anyone can boast, right? Anyway, currently, you don’t have a car.”

“Mind your own business!”

Cafeteria.

Meixi was eating while browsing social media.

Work-related notices and doctors’ leave requests would appear in the work group.

Director Wang would reply, but he had not replied to her message from yesterday.

Thinking about today’s deduction of half a day’s full-attendance award, she felt dejected and was about to exit the app, when Gu Wei sent her a message:

[Ah Xi, I’ve been thinking, not having a car at home isn’t very convenient, so I’m thinking of buying one. What do you think?]
