Chapter 139: Chapter 139: A Short Parting Is Better Than A New Marriage

Su Meixi couldn’t think of a reason to refuse at the moment. She was in good health and didn’t feel unwell.

There was nothing pressing at home, and she had told Sister Zhou that morning that her husband was on a business trip, leaving her home alone.

She couldn’t very well admit that she had a grudge against Mr. Bai, could she? Who did she think she was to hold such a grudge? Or should she say that she had an affair with Bai Anzhi?

In the workplace, the last thing you want is to provoke suspicion. It’s best not to mention such imaginative reasons.

So, after finishing the wedding banquet, they immediately rushed to the next event.

Bai Anzhi had booked a nightclub that could accommodate more than twenty people.

...

Su Meixi had been to KTV before and realized that KTVs and nightclubs were different—in KTVs, the majority of people go to sing, but in nightclubs, you can order female companions to drink with.

Doctors are one of the more innocent professions, and coming to such a place is naturally a bit uncomfortable.

But Bai Anzhi was very good at setting the mood. When the doctors from the second hospital arrived, he took charge like a big brother and led them in the fun.

In addition to playing dice games, he also told jokes.

The doctors hadn’t encountered someone like him before and were quite interested, happy to play along.

And then they drank.

Bai Anzhi was clearly not new to drinking. The doctors took turns but none could outdrink him.

At such gatherings, women are generally taken care of and not forced to drink, so Su Meixi had been singing with a few other female doctors all along. However, seeing her colleagues from the department failing one by one, the female doctors couldn’t sit still.

Naturally, they too fell victim to the alcohol.

Bai Anzhi, already tipsy, held up a bottle of red wine and proclaimed, “Whoever can finish this bottle, the batch of medicinal herbs will go to your hospital!”

Su Meixi looked around and saw that everyone was drunk, swaying to and fro, with none able to stand straight.

And Mr. Wang was looking at her expectantly.

Su Meixi clenched her teeth, marched to the battlefield with a resolute spirit, and said, “I’ll do it!”

She walked over to Bai Anzhi, took the wine bottle from his hand, and looked at him.

“Are you serious about your offer?”

Bai Anzhi also looked at her, sneered contemptuously, and said, “Don’t overdo it. I won’t pay if you drink yourself to death.”

Su Meixi chuckled coldly and then tilted her head back to drink.

She didn’t finish it all at once but instead drank a third, rested for a while, then drank another third, and finally, after giving Bai Anzhi a disdainful smile, she finished the last third.

“Good job!” The crowd clapped their hands.

But Su Meixi felt her vision beginning to blur.

In high school, she had read several news stories about girls being taken advantage of after being drunk, and she feared the same might happen to her, so she would secretly buy alcohol during vacations to drink at home, stopping only when she was on the brink of passing out.

That’s probably when she built up her tolerance.

She shook her head, trying hard to control her emotions.

Her vision cleared, and Bai Anzhi’s somewhat wicked face appeared before her.

“Dr. Su, are you alright? Do you need me to take you home?”

“Mr. Bai is too kind. I’m feeling quite well,” she replied.

She stumbled slightly while walking, and Bai Anzhi quickly steadied her.

But she immediately pulled away.

Then she loudly announced, “Everyone, Mr. Bai has just agreed to give the batch of medicinal herbs to our Third Hospital. Let’s thank Mr. Bai.”

Bai Anzhi smiled.

Then he brought his hand to his nose and sniffed.

He had touched her waist when helping her.

Soft and boneless, smooth as cream.

Truly excellent!

Su Meixi had called for a designated driver that night.

When she got home, she took a quick shower and then brewed a packet of hangover tea.

The tea was too hot to drink immediately, so she lay down on the sofa to rest.

But barely two minutes later, she fell asleep.

She didn’t know how long she had been lying down when she felt someone covering her with a blanket.

On alert, she grabbed the person’s hand, ready to defend herself, but the hand was large and unmoving to her pull.

She opened her eyes and to her surprise, she saw Gu Wei!

She thought she was hallucinating from the alcohol.

So she shook her head, trying to identify the visitor.

She feared it was Bai Anzhi or some creep who had followed her home.

But then she heard Gu Wei’s teasing voice, “Nice reflexes. You must practice a lot!”

Only then did she sit up and stare at the person before her for a while.

Handsome face, tan skin, a straight nose, wearing a tight army green tank top under his shirt, with the collar open, revealing strong chest muscles.

“Gu Wei, is it really you?” Her intoxication began to wear off with excitement.

“Would there be any other man in this house?” Gu Wei laughed.

Then he caressed her face.

The flush from the alcohol hadn’t completely faded, and even after showering, the smell of alcohol lingered.

“Have you been drinking tonight?”

“Social obligations.”

“Doctors have so many social obligations?”

“What profession doesn’t? Oh, except for yours,” he said with a laugh.

But his fingers remained on her face, tenderly touching her as he gazed at her fondly.

She became emotional, memories of their time at the border coming to mind.

Then she couldn’t help but throw herself into his arms, holding him tightly.

Gu Wei hugged her back, lifting her easily.

He had intended to take her to her old room, but Su Meixi pointed at the master bedroom, “I’ve been staying in your room now.”

He laughed and changed direction to the master bedroom.

After placing her on the bed, he kissed her lips and softly said, “I’m going to take a shower.”

“Okay, I’ll wait for you,” she replied coyly.

Once he was in the bathroom, she hurried to check her breath—although it didn’t stink, she brushed her teeth again just to be sure, sprayed a little body fragrance, and then got back under the covers.

Gu Wei came out of the shower and joined her in bed.

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder, and although there were a thousand things to say, those would have to wait until after the passion.

Their lovemaking was intense.

It put her straight to sleep.

The next day when she woke up, she saw Gu Wei propping his head up with his hand, staring motionlessly at her.

She asked shyly, “Why are you looking at me like that?”

Gu Wei smiled, “I haven’t seen a beauty in a long time.”

“Are you lying? Didn’t you see any beautiful people while you were away?”

“Only wild beasts.”

“No wonder last night…” She wanted to crack a dirty joke, but her sense of propriety got in the way, and she couldn’t finish the sentence.

She changed the subject, “How have you been these past days?”

“Pretty good.”

She had felt his body the previous night and hadn’t noticed any injuries.

He asked her, “How about you? How have you been?”

Her smile faded, “Not good.”

Then she turned away.

He quickly embraced her from behind, leaning on her shoulder to ask, “Is it because of my mother?”
