Chapter 25 - 25 025 Slapping the Face to Act Rich
Chapter 25: Chapter 025: Slapping the Face to Act Rich Chapter 25: Chapter 025: Slapping the Face to Act Rich Dinner was entirely sourced from the harvest of four groups.
The evening bonfire was ready, and the show’s staff had set up tables and chairs in four groups around the fire.
Liu Qiang looked down at the small table covered with a few wild vegetables and those two sour fruits, almost grinding her teeth in frustration.
Wen Yan also looked bitter.
They had managed to find the right path to the destination, which was already quite an achievement. How could they have foraged for food along the way?
Wasn’t the crew making it difficult for them?
When Wen Yan saw the abundant fish and meat at Shen Yan’s table, he didn’t even dare to complain.
Besides Shen Yan’s bountiful gathering, Qin Dingyue and Zhou Jingming’s group were next.
Xu Zishen glanced at the table that was frequently served with food and felt a bit helpless.
He had thought that the survival skills he had learned in advance would shine in this program.
When it came to actual implementation, there was a big discrepancy.
Shen Yan started eating as soon as the dishes were served, not paying attention to Mu Jincheng’s complex face that was at a loss for words.
Chu Jinghe looked at her table’s two small dishes and lost all appetite.
She looked to Mu Jincheng’s side, seeking help.
Mu Jincheng said to Shen Yan, “We can’t eat so much either, how about we join tables and eat together?”
He felt sorry for Chu Jinghe.
So he wanted to share the meal like yesterday.
Shen Yan didn’t even lift her head, acting as if she hadn’t heard.
Mu Jincheng clenched his chopsticks, “Shen Yan, it’ll be leftover anyway, the weather won’t preserve it till tomorrow, we might as well share it among everyone.”
He raised his voice slightly, to make sure everyone could hear.
Shen Yan could no longer play deaf at this point and lifted her head to look at him, “You’re encouraging bad habits of relying on others without effort.”
Mu Jincheng frowned, “It’s not that serious.”
“Whatever,” Shen Yan neither nodded nor refused, indifferently throwing him those words.
This left Mu Jincheng uncertain whether she agreed or not.
Mu Jincheng thought Shen Yan was petty, stingy, and difficult.
What was wrong with sharing some food with others, especially when she couldn’t finish it herself? That would just be wasteful.
Mu Jincheng looked again at Chu Jinghe’s table, feeling even more pity.
“I’ll give up my portion, okay?” Mu Jincheng bit his lip, somewhat resentfully telling Shen Yan.
Shen Yan glanced at him and lightly tossed out two words: “Up to you.”
“You…” Mu Jincheng’s expression soured.
Shen Yan gave a sarcastic look for someone to see.
Mu Jincheng picked up his portion and walked over to Chu Jinghe, handing it to her.
For a moment, everyone turned to watch.
Shen Yan didn’t stop him and hurriedly ate.
“Mu Jincheng, are you being a bit unfairly partial? Could I shamelessly ask for a portion too?” Liu Qiang pleaded pitifully.
Mu Jincheng saw everyone was watching him.
It wouldn’t be right to only give to Chu Jinghe.
He turned back and took some more from the table to distribute to everyone, immediately earning a series of thank you cards.
Chu Jinghe shyly said thank you.
After speaking, she glanced at Xu Zishen sitting across from her.
Xu Zishen was truly hungry and also said thank you.
Seeing Xu Zishen showed no other emotion, Chu Jinghe slightly relaxed.
Qin Dingyue didn’t want to accept it, but since it was offered, she took it and thanked Mu Jincheng, and also said thanks to Shen Yan, who was still eating.
Shen Yan nodded without lifting her head and continued eating.
When Mu Jincheng returned to his own table, he found only some fish bones and a bit of fish left, his eyes widened in shock.
“Shen Yan, did you eat it all by yourself?”
Shen Yan popped the washed jujube into her mouth and chewed. Glancing at him, she said, “We split the food evenly between the two of us. I even gave out an extra portion. I tend to burn a lot of calories, so what’s the problem with eating it all?”
Mu Jincheng’s face turned sour.
He had only taken a couple of bites and his stomach was still empty.
Now was Shen Yan asking him to clean the plate?
Mu Jincheng didn’t want to eat what Shen Yan had left over, but his larger portion had already been given away. He certainly couldn’t ask for it back.
Seeing his reaction, Shen Yan chuckled inwardly.
Serves him right for biting off more than he can chew.
It won’t kill him to be hungry.
Leisurely, Shen Yan picked another jujube, put it in a shallow pan with some water, and set it beside the fire to cook slowly.
Mu Jincheng stared at the scraps on the table, his mood fluctuating.
He was disgusted by Shen Yan’s leftovers tainted with her saliva, and since he’d given away all of his own portion, he faced a night of hunger if he didn’t eat.
The thought infuriated him.
Shen Yan was deliberately antagonizing him to draw attention.
“Jincheng, I saved a bit for you,” Chu Jinghe stepped forward, giving back a small portion of fish to Mu Jincheng.
Mu Jincheng was overwhelmed with gratitude.
“Thank you!”
“As long as you don’t mind that I’ve touched it…” Chu Jinghe said shyly, glancing at Mu Jincheng and casually praising Shen Yan: “Shen Yan, I didn’t expect you to have such a good appetite. They say a good appetite is a blessing; I’m quite envious.”
“Thank you. Everyone says I’m blessed,” Shen Yan accepted the compliment with ease and contentment.
Chu Jinghe smiled faintly, said no more, and returned to her seat.
Mu Jincheng thought even more highly of Chu Jinghe’s beautiful and kind nature!
Compared to her, Shen Yan was like a lump of clay.
Shen Yan watched the interaction between the two, utterly speechless.
These are the original male and female protagonists.
They might as well have Zhou Jingming and Xu Zishen as the male leads and Qin Ding Yue as the female lead.
Like a radar, Qin Ding Yue rushed to Shen Yan’s side, curiously asking, “Yanyan, what is this? You ate it raw before, is it edible?”
Shen Yan explained, “Jujube. It can be eaten raw or steamed. Also good for making liquor.”
“Ah! It looks so ugly, yet it’s edible?” Qin Ding Yue appeared enlightened, drawing scorn from Liu Qiang.
Shen Yan briefly explained the benefits of eating jujube once more.
Qin Ding Yue’s eyes sparkled with admiration!
It left a few of them rather speechless.
“Can I try some?” Zhou Jingming followed and asked for a bit.
Shen Yan generously gave some to Zhou Jingming. Seeing this, Xu Zishen also stretched out his hand for some, and Wen Yan joined in, not wanting to be left out.
Each person got a bit to taste; it was neither bitter nor sweet, but a tad astringent.
“Ptui!” After tasting a bit, Liu Qiang spat it out. “What is this? It tastes awful.”
Everyone’s eyes turned toward her.
Realizing what she had done, Liu Qiang forced a smile and explained, “I, I can’t handle the taste.”
“Everyone has different tastes,” Chu Jinghe smiled warmly, defending Liu Qiang, her gracious demeanor surely winning fans’ hearts.
Her words immediately garnered plenty of praise from many fans.
Mu Jincheng was displeased seeing Shen Yan giving away the jujubes he had picked, but he didn’t say anything.
“Right, everyone has different tastes, and I don’t like this thing,” Liu Qiang quickly grabbed the lifeline Chu Jinghe had thrown.
Even if you don’t like it, you shouldn’t spit it out in front of everyone and say something like that.
[Speechless, what has Liu Qiang turned into?]
[Survival on a desert island really is like a truth mirror; it reflects everyone’s true nature from every angle.]
[I don’t care what kind of ghost Liu Qiang is, the biggest revelation this time is Shen Yan! I love Shen Yan!]
What do you think?
