Chapter 16: Am I a bit late?
Chapter 16: Chapter 16: Am I a bit late?
Mr. Song’s words struck her like a thunderbolt, exploding in her head.
She could hardly believe her ears, had all her years of hard work at the Song Family been completely ruined by a little girl who had just entered the door a few days ago?
Xiao Jinglan struggled to keep her expression from looking too ugly, “Dad, I think…”
“Enough,” Mr. Song interrupted her before she could finish, “I won’t hold this against you for now. Remember to stay away from Sinian’s wife in the future, and also stop meddling in those affairs.”
“…”
Xiao Jinglan was now utterly speechless, knowing that once Mr. Song had made up his mind, there was no room for discussion.
Mr. Song forbade her from interacting with Lu Zhaozhao, so she could only start from the Lu Family’s side.
She was determined to find out exactly where the problem lay!
She glanced at Mr. Song, and seeing that he had no intention of speaking again, she said, “Dad, then you go ahead with your work; I’ll head back now.”
“Mm.”
Mr. Song nodded, his gaze returning to the chessboard on the table.
The old butler, seeing Xiao Jinglan leave, finally spoke slowly, “The young master seems to treat his wife a bit differently.”
Mr. Song’s grizzled eyebrows rose slightly, “You’ve noticed too?”
The butler nodded, “The young master never cares about anything beyond work and would never trouble Mr. Song over trivial matters. His willingness to step in shows that he really values this wife.”
“Yes, you’re right,” Mr. Song narrowed his eyes, “no wonder the boy went and registered the marriage after just meeting the girl.”
The butler pondered for a moment, “Mr. Song, do you think if you had a good relationship with the young madam, it might bring you closer to the young master?”
Mr. Song narrowed his eyes, “That might be a good idea, but I don’t know if this young lady is easy to get along with…”
“If the young master likes her… she probably won’t be hard to get along with.”
They were well aware of what Sinian was like.
When it came to being difficult, who could be more so than Song Si?
Mr. Song and the old butler exchanged glances, both sighing silently at the same time.
It seemed Mr. Song would have to visit his granddaughter-in-law himself…
The next day, when Lu Zhaozhao woke up, the sky was already bright.
Just yesterday, she had declared she would come back to drink sweet soup, but she fell asleep on the way back home.
And she even slept until dawn.
Lu Zhaozhao rubbed her head and sat up, only then did she realize she had slept on the bed last night!
Had Song Si also slept here yesterday?
The thought of Song Si suddenly made her scramble out of bed.
It was over, over, over!
She remembered Song Si saying he would take her to see the physician this morning.
Had she gotten up late?
Lu Zhaozhao scrambled out of bed in a panic, quickly washed up, and rushed downstairs.
To her surprise, Song Si was not there; instead, he was leisurely sitting in the living room, drinking coffee and reading the newspaper.
Seeing Lu Zhaozhao enter, Song Si’s calm eyes lifted slightly and he said indifferently, “Are you up? Do you want something to eat?”
Lu Zhaozhao nodded blankly and then sat down next to Song Si.
Her unconscious behavior made Song Sinian’s eyes flash slightly.
“Am I a little late?” Lu Zhaozhao looked at Song Sinian with a bit of trepidation, a worry in her eyes that she couldn’t quite express.
Song Sinian gently shook his head as his gaze fell on her somewhat disheveled hair. He subconsciously reached out, but stopped as he met her puzzled gaze.
Lu Zhaozhao blinked her watery eyes uncertainly and nudged her little face toward his hand, asking, “Is there something on my face?”
Song Sinian looked down, his eyes deeply fixed on Lu Zhaozhao, his fingertips lightly caressing her unsuspecting little face.
He neither denied her words nor confirmed them, only gently brushing her cheek with the pad of his finger.@@novelbin@@
After a moment, Song Sinian withdrew his hand and started talking at a leisurely pace, “Take your time eating breakfast. There’s plenty of time. I told you yesterday to wait until you had slept enough before leaving.”
“…”
Lu Zhaozhao swallowed, having taken his words yesterday as mere politeness, never expecting Song Sinian to actually mean it.
She stole a glance at him. Song Sinian’s expressionless face was still inscrutable.
Lu Zhaozhao pursed her lips. Thinking back to when she woke up in the morning and noticed that the wound on her heel was already scabbing, she tentatively asked, “Do I… have to see the doctor today?”
“Mm,” was Song Sinian’s succinct reply.
“…”
Alright then, since he had already made arrangements, she would just go.
Qian Hong set breakfast in front of Lu Zhaozhao, which, to her delight, included the sweet soup she had wanted the day before.
Lu Zhaozhao’s heart surged with joy, and she nodded her thanks to Qian Hong before happily starting to eat.
Song Sinian’s gaze swept over her radiant little face, and his eyebrows lifted slightly.
It seemed she really enjoyed eating.
Whenever she ate something she liked, she always squinted her eyes habitually…
“Thump, thump, thump!”
Suddenly, someone knocked on the dining room door, and Zhao Xi entered, carrying a stack of things.
He nodded at Song Sinian and Lu Zhaozhao before setting the items on the dining table.
“Here is Madame’s phone that was taken away yesterday, and these are the profiles of the bodyguards arranged for Madame.”
Song Sinian casually placed the mobile phone beside Lu Zhaozhao and then slowly began, “Later, pick a bodyguard that you find suitable. Have him follow you when you go out, and if you encounter anything strange, leave it to him to handle.”
“Uh… alright,” Lu Zhaozhao obediently nodded.
She didn’t need to think too hard to know what those “strange things” referred to.
As Zhao Xi stood by, seeing Lu Zhaozhao’s well-behaved demeanor, he couldn’t help but add, looking at Song Sinian’s businesslike manner, “Sir is worried about Madame. The person who bullied Madame yesterday has already been dealt with. Please rest assured, Madame.”
Lu Zhaozhao nodded lightly, still a bit slow to react.
They came back yesterday, and Song Sinian had already dealt with the person?
She had spoken up yesterday partly to let Song Sinian and the others know she was forced to go and partly to make Song Sinian wary of Xiao Jinglan.
Lu Zhaozhao had thought that Song Sinian and Xiao Jinglan were on good terms, and he would give her some face. She had never imagined he would deal with the person directly.
In her past life, Xiao Jinglan seemed to understand Song Sinian well, which led her to believe there was a good relationship between them.
Now it seemed, for Song Sinian, there wasn’t really a question of relationships being good or bad, was there?
So what could she do to make Song Sinian take her side?
As Lu Zhaozhao was deep in thought, she was suddenly pinched on the cheek and forced to turn to the side—
What do you think?
