After Being Reborn, Her Only Mission Is to Love Him

Chapter 37 - 37 Can I Hug You?

Chapter 37: Chapter 37 Can I Hug You?

Clearly, Xia Wenmo’s series of actions had maximally piqued the curiosity of the other Xia Family members about Lu Zhaozhao.

Xia Nie had even returned to the Xia Family home early with Wen Qingyu, preparing a rich table of food and waiting for Lu Zhaozhao’s visit.

But they waited until 8 PM, and still, Lu Zhaozhao did not appear.

A sense of disappointment hung in the air of the Xia Family’s dining room.

The second son, Xia Wenqing, coughed lightly, “Dad, Mom, although Zhaozhao now knows the truth, she still needs some time to adjust, right?”

Although his eldest brother, Xia Wenjue, and the youngest, Xia Wenmo, both insisted that Lu Zhaozhao was a good kid, but…

Xia Wenqing furrowed his brow, considering that for a 20-year-old girl to just find out that her biological parents were someone else, and that they came from far wealthier circumstances than her foster parents, she indeed needed some time.

Would Lu Zhaozhao react the same as Xia Wenjin if she knew their family’s condition was even better than that of the Lu Family?

Xia Wenqing felt somewhat complicated.

He, much like Xia Wenmo, didn’t particularly like the profit-minded Xia Wenjin, so he didn’t have much expectation for this sister who was about to become part of the family.

After all, how could they expect to become close with a sister they had not met in 20 years…

Xia Wenjue chimed in to smooth things over, “Right, Dad and Mom, let’s eat first. It’s already very late; maybe Zhaozhao will come in a few days.”

Xia Nie and Wen Qingyu exchanged looks before silently picking up their chopsticks to eat.

But nobody really had an appetite.

So the family hastily ate a few bites before clearing away the untouched dishes.

Just as Xia Wenjue picked up the trash and was about to head out, the doorbell echoed in the empty house.

“Ding dong—”

Xia Wenjue approached the peephole, peered through, and immediately ran back with the trash.

Xia Wenqing, Xia Nie, and Wen Qingyu looked bewilderedly at him, confused and disgusted by his panic with the garbage.

“What is this…”

“Zhao! Zhaozhao is here!” Before the other three could speak, Xia Wenjue stammered out his announcement.

Now the other three were thrown into a panic too.

Xia Wenjue quickly grabbed Xia Wenqing’s hand and hid in the bedroom closest to the living room.

“Ding dong—ding dong—”

Seeing the doorbell still ringing, Xia Wenjue peeked out and saw that Xia Nie and Wen Qingyu were still standing there, stunned.

He immediately lowered his voice and shouted at them, “Dad! Mom! Snap out of it! Go and answer the door!”

Only then did Wen Qingyu and Xia Nie come to their senses and hurried to the door together.

As soon as they opened it, Wen Qingyu and Xia Nie were also taken aback.

Because Lu Zhaozhao’s appearance was almost 70% like Wen Qingyu, and the remaining 30% resembled Xia Nie.

“Uh… Mr. Xia, Mrs. Xia, hello, my name is Lu Zhaozhao. I’ve come today because there’s something I need to discuss with you both. Do you have a moment?”

Lu Zhaozhao tried to muster a not-too-awkward smile as she looked at the two people before her.

She knew that what she was saying right now might sound strange as she had never interacted with Wen Qingyu and Xia Nie before, so she didn’t know how to start the conversation.

Wen Qingyu could tell at a glance that she was feeling awkward and quickly made way, saying, “Alright, then let’s go in and talk.”

Her tone was gentle, and her smile was soft, which relaxed Lu Zhaozhao’s tense heart quite a bit.

She nodded at Xia Nie and then followed Wen Qingyu into the living room.

The decor inside was simple, yet evidently crafted with care, rustic yet elegant.

Lu Zhaozhao’s gaze swept over the living room corridor where several oil paintings hung. Though they were unsigned, they exuded a particularly warm feeling.

Just like Luna.

Perhaps the person who painted these paintings had a warm heart as well?

She sat obediently in the living room, looking at Xia Nie and Wen Qingyu sitting opposite her and took a deep breath before starting the conversation.

“Mr. Xia, Mrs. Xia, what I’m about to say may sound a bit far-fetched, but please allow me some time to explain,” Lu Zhaozhao, one small hand holding the other, looked very constrained.

Wen Qingyu chuckled softly, her eyes curving into a smile as she reassured, “Don’t worry, we have the patience; you take your time.”

Beside her, Xia Nie nodded as well, “Mhm, no rush, we happen to have some free time on our hands.”

Their gentle and soft tones gave Lu Zhaozhao much-needed courage.

She took out some documents from her bag and placed them in front of the couple, “This is my personal information. I might be your biological daughter, so… if it’s convenient for you, I was hoping we could do a paternity test.”

Wen Qingyu blinked in surprise, not expecting Lu Zhaozhao to be so direct, and for a moment, she was slightly dazed.

Xia Nie, on the other hand, had picked up the documentation that Lu Zhaozhao had placed on the table and began to examine it carefully.

Both of them were silent, which made Lu Zhaozhao somewhat nervous.

Her small hands clenched into fists as she continued, “I know this is quite astonishing and may be too sudden for you both, so if you don’t agree, I won’t insist…”

“I want to try,” Wen Qingyu reached out and grasped Lu Zhaozhao’s tightly clenched hands, her eyes gently bending with warmth, “Actually, when I first saw you just now, I was a bit shocked, you look very much like I did when I was young.”

Xia Nie slowly set down the documents in his hands, his gaze fixed on Lu Zhaozhao, he sighed softly, “If you truly are our daughter, we are the ones who are sorry for not realizing this sooner and making you come to us yourself.”

A flicker of light danced in Lu Zhaozhao’s eyes. She had prepared herself to be turned away, but she hadn’t expected Mr. and Mrs. Xia to be so gentle.

Especially the way the two of them looked at her, with genuine regret and affection from the bottom of their hearts—emotions she had never experienced in the Lu Family.

Lu Zhaozhao’s eyes drooped slightly, just in time to meet Wen Qingyu’s now red-rimmed eyes.@@novelbin@@

“Child, can I hug you?”

Her voice was soft, with a pleading tone. It was truly difficult for Lu Zhaozhao to refuse.

“Uh… okay.” She slowly stood up, and as she approached Wen Qingyu, she crouched down a bit.

Her height was just right for Wen Qingyu to wrap her entire arms around, the scent fragrant, like lavender.

Wen Qingyu held her, patting her back gently a few times, “You’ve been through a lot, child. Thank you for growing up well.”

“…”

Her gentle tone and soft voice made Lu Zhaozhao’s heart sink bit by bit.

In her previous life, the missing piece of familial affection in her heart seemed to be filled at this moment.

Could real relatives be this warm?

Her eyes fell slightly, and she returned the embrace gently, but suddenly, as if she remembered something, she quickly let go.

Just as Wen Qingyu was wondering why, she saw Lu Zhaozhao rummaging through her bag and pulling something out—
