Chapter 21 – Said not to throw cigarette butts
Convenience store.
"Oh! Oh! Dad is the best!"
Looking at his eight-year-old daughter happily holding the newly acquired magical girl Xia Ai set, Boss Chang didn't know whether to be happy or worried.
Indeed, he shouldn't have blurted out at that time, or at least his vigilance should have been raised. His little girl shouldn't have said anything casually when she was beside him. Otherwise, he wouldn't have to sigh over his empty pocket money for this month.
He first realized that something was wrong when a bottle of shampoo on the shelf in the store fell to the ground with a bang.
Then everything started to change. More and more goods fell to the ground one after another, and the lights flickered on and off. The whole store was like a box being shaken wildly.
In the moment he realized that something was wrong, Boss Chang immediately burst out with astonishing speed. His plump body flew out from behind the counter in an unbelievable manner, and he quickly picked up his bewildered daughter and rushed out of the store.
But this was just the beginning.
The destructive shock was like a stampede of ten thousand horses, and the earth seemed to suddenly awaken and move like a giant. A faint smoke rose from every floor of the surrounding buildings, as if a hazy filter had been placed over the whole world.
Then came a loud noise from nowhere, like thunder exploding in everyone's hearts. The cracked soil splashed around, and the low houses tilted to one side. The walls cracked with sharp screams, and glass shards flew like snowflakes.
An earthquake? In Kantu City? Boss Chang roared in his heart.
Has this world finally gone crazy!?
Another loud noise. This time he heard it clearly, the sound came from above his head. Along with it came a large amount of metal fragments, like electric sparks splattering like blood.
Boss Chang stiffly raised his head, and a desperate shadow covered the sky.
It was a huge advertising billboard on the rooftop.
The strong shock tore it from its base and turned it into a steel reaper, instantly choking Boss Chang's throat.
His mind went blank, and his limbs acted before his brain.
Instinctively, he opened his arms, his body like an open umbrella, protecting his daughter underneath.
But the scene of being crushed to pieces that he had imagined did not happen.
Boss Chang raised his head blankly, his pupils involuntarily contracting. He saw a scene that was even more incomprehensible than the earthquake that happened in Kantu.
A flying man, wearing a blue uniform and a red cape that looked like fire, was hovering above him, holding up the fallen billboard with one hand.
As easily as carrying a briefcase.
He stared dumbfoundedly at the flying man descending, throwing the huge sign onto the empty space on the sidewalk, and even smiling at him.
Then he immediately flew back into the endless sky like a brave eagle.
"Daddy?" his daughter called him tentatively from his arms.
Boss Chang, still in a daze, seemed to think he was dreaming. "...Pinch me, will you?"
His daughter pinched his leg.
"Ouch!" Boss Chang shivered all over. "You really pinched me, you little brat! Do you want to kill me?"
...
...
"Give me your hand!!!"
A father lay on the edge of a broken bridge, desperately reaching out his hand towards his child inside the car that was stranded at the edge of the bridge.
One minute ago, the Panlong Bridge, which spanned the river in Kantu City, broke. A huge crack ran through the middle of the bridge, as if countless claws were struggling to tear it apart. Small fragments scattered like splashes, and the sound was like iron discs hitting stone pillars.
This was not the only car stuck at the edge of the broken bridge; some even fell into the water. A child of about ten years old sat in the seat, holding onto the seatbelt with a mournful face. "I can't do it!"@@novelbin@@
"You can!" The father seemed to have never hated his own arm for not being longer in his life. He tried to get closer, but was afraid that the slightest movement would cause the half-suspended car to fall. "Give me your hand slowly, I can..."
But things didn't go as planned. A new shock hit the bridge, and the people on the bridge felt a violent tremor in the world. The car that was stuck sank a little, carrying the crying child towards the endless abyss.
"No! Come back!" The father shouted hysterically.
And in the next second, as if in response to his strong desire.
The car actually flew back.
In fact, it wasn't just this car. He saw a blue-uniformed, red-caped flying man rise into the air, holding a car that had fallen off the bridge in one arm, and throwing it onto the bridge with the other.
This father, who followed his words, opened his mouth in astonishment, feeling that he had never seen such a magical scene in his life.
Yes, it was like a miracle. It seemed as if his heartfelt desire had been heard and the miracle had come true.
"Daddy!"
The child rushed out and hugged his father tightly. The father held his lost flesh and blood tightly, as if he would never allow him to leave his embrace again.
And Jiang Bei didn't stay, he turned his head and swiftly plunged into the water behind him. In the blink of an eye, he flew out again, carrying two cars.
After Jiang Bei finished his task, he waved to the crowd as he ascended. As he flew away, he could faintly feel the complex gazes of the onlookers focused on him.
"It seems that's everyone... Alright, Xiao Qi, where's the next one?"
Jiang Bei asked while Xiao Qi sat on the sofa with her legs crossed, eating and drinking. The residents outside were fleeing in panic, and the world outside the window was in chaos. But she sat comfortably in the living room, as if everything outside had nothing to do with her.
"Well... there's a poor guy who fell from a scaffolding eight hundred meters away from you. I'll share the location with you..."
"Caught him, next?"
Jiang Bei placed the dumbfounded construction worker on the sidewalk and immediately accelerated into the sky without landing. His trajectory was like a white silk spanning the city.
"There's a collapsed floor here, and three people are trapped underneath..."
"Wait a few seconds."
Jiang Bei, like a lightning bolt, pierced through several layers of reinforced concrete structures in succession, and arrived at the designated place indicated by Xiao Qi in almost an instant. He held the collapsed ceiling with both hands and effortlessly lifted the pile of debris and rubble with a rumble.
The sudden influx of light made the three survivors below unable to open their eyes for a while. They felt as if a sharp blade had cut through the darkness, and a towering figure stood in the light, using his body to open up the only way out in despair. The red cape was like a burning torch.
"...Alright, this side is also taken care of. Next?"

Jiang Bei flew back to the street like a flash of lightning, and the treasury value in the upper right corner of his field of vision skyrocketed as if his life depended on it.
"Uh... this problem is a bit bigger, you might want to act faster." Xiao Qi licked her lollipop. "The natural gas pipeline under Biluo Street has been cracked. A lit cigarette butt fell in..."
"Damn it!"
Jiang Bei quickly turned around, and in an instant of acceleration, a circle of sonic booms exploded beside him.
"I told you not to throw cigarette butts!"
What do you think?
