Chapter 124: Chapter 124: Both Mr. Si and Sang Qiao Are Trapped There
A group of people were walking when Meng Wange quickly took small steps until she was beside Sang Qiao, unable to restrain herself, she lowered her voice and asked,
“Sang Qiao, do you have any good plans? Do we really have to let the program team exploit us to clear the snow in such cold weather?”
“Aside from clearing it, there’s no other option, and we’re still behind on work points.” Sang Qiao seemed rather resigned to the fact, reasoning that if she paid up today, it wouldn’t matter if she didn’t earn any work points in the future.
Essentials had already been exchanged; the rest, which were not very necessary, could be acquired gradually.
“That’s true, but do we really have to keep being exploited by the program team this season? This is supposed to be a love-themed show, but it feels like we’re here to suffer hardship.”
“Maybe they want us to share adversity together?” As Sang Qiao said this, she couldn’t help but remember how during every task, she and Si Chenli seemed to be doing their own things.
“Although, but… okay.” Meng Wange felt there was some logic to it, her face inevitably showing an expression of utter despair.
They soon reached their destination, with several paths before them stretching far and long, almost beyond sight, and the accumulated snow was thicker than in other places, the feet sinking in at every step.
Each group of guests took up shovels and wheelbarrows and headed for their respective paths.
Sang Qiao had planned to shovel the snow herself, but before she could bend down to start, the shovel was taken from her hand by the man beside her, “I’ll do it. You just follow behind and push the cart.”
“Okay, let’s switch when you’re tired.” Sang Qiao nodded in agreement, not bothering to argue.
After having spent such a long time together, she knew very well that once Si Chenli had spoken, it was hard to change his mind.
“Mhm.” The man’s voice was deep and resonant as he shoveled the snow with steady force, each shovel full making its way into the wheelbarrow.
He led the way, while Sang Qiao followed behind; Si Chenli’s broad and strong back seemed to possess inexhaustible energy.
They were clearing snow from their end of the path, while at the far end, another figure was at work.
Sang Shen’s fingers, gripping the shovel, were frozen red, his breath cold as he bent down time and time again to shovel, the hands that had never done such heavy labor soon becoming raw and blistered.
He glanced down at his palms and then continued shoveling.
The agent who followed, pushing the cart, couldn’t help but feel pained, “Sang Emperor, let me do it. Take a rest. We still have filming to do later.”
“It’s fine, it won’t affect me.” Sang Shen stubbornly continued to shovel, knowing that these insignificant acts were all he could do for Qiaoqiao.
“Sang Emperor, you’ve gone to such lengths for her, aren’t you really planning to tell her? Look how you’re only keeping one portion of your filming revenue and giving eighty percent to Rose Entertainment, using the remaining one percent to win over a Rose Entertainment executive.”
The agent, witnessing all the sacrifices, genuinely felt pained; the normally proud Sang Emperor had never gone this far, even for Sang Jiao.
And now, to garner Sang Qiao’s forgiveness, he was silently paying such a price.
“Don’t say it. If you still want to work with me, then keep your mouth shut.” Sang Shen’s voice involuntarily took on a severe tone.
How could he not want to tell Qiaoqiao everything he had done? But he knew too well that even if he did tell her, he might not receive forgiveness; it could even make Qiaoqiao more wary of him.
It was better for him to quietly do these things, deluding himself into believing that Qiaoqiao’s indifference was due to her lack of knowledge.
“I understand.” Though the agent was sympathetic, he had to acquiesce.
Sang Shen paid him a high salary, and moreover, Sang Shen was indebted to him.
These days, the agent had watched as Sang Emperor cut back on everything, eating the cheapest meals, yet being generous when it came to buying things for Sang Qiao.
He knew then, that this time Sang Emperor was truly serious.
Sang Qiao had shoveled half of the snow when she noticed that the other half was already cleared. She frowned. “Was there less snow on that side?”
“Somebody swept it already.” Si Chenli’s gaze fell on the traces left by the shovel on the ground.
The cameraman following them chuckled nervously, “It must have been the sanitation workers; our production crew forgot to inform them beforehand – just pretend that you’ve finished the job.”
As he spoke, cold sweat streamed down his forehead, betraying how guilty he felt.
But thinking about the money Sang Emperor had stuffed, he forced himself to appear calm.
[Wow, how lucky is that? Someone already swept half for them!]
[Sister Qiao and Brother Li are so fortunate; next door, Yao Hui fell face-first into a snowpit, having only cleared a third, and his path is particularly full of trash. It’s genuinely pitiful.]
[Don’t even mention it; Sang Jiao’s group had it worse, with a slight downward slope. After sweeping for a while, her hand slipped, and the cart slid back down, dumping all the snow out.]
[Other groups switch between pushing the cart and sweeping, but Brother Li insists on holding the shovel himself. He’s just too considerate!]
“There were sanitation workers sweeping?” Naturally, Sang Qiao noticed the cameraman’s guilt. She lifted her eyelids slightly, her gaze carrying a scrutinizing edge.
Already not very good at lying, the cameraman felt even more guilty at the moment.
“Well… maybe there were. Others have already swept up – you can’t expect them to dump the snow back for you to sweep again, can you? It would be too tiring, wouldn’t it? Do you want to go back and rest, or sweep another path?”
The cameraman struggled to control his panic.
“Let’s go back.” Sang Qiao found his reasoning undeniable; she had begun to form a vague guess in her mind.
“Mhm.” Si Chenli always went along with her wishes; since she said to go back, they went back.
Thus, they became the team that completed the task the fastest.
Although the director was surprised at how quickly they finished, the camera had recorded everything, and he had no reason to be suspicious, so he waved them off.
On their way back, both were lost in their thoughts.
Just as they were immersed in their contemplation, they suddenly heard a loud noise and saw large swaths of white snow tumbling down the surrounding slopes.
Before they could react, the collapsing snow separated them and the cameraman.
Si Chenli instinctively reached out and pulled Sang Qiao’s hand, holding her tightly in his embrace. A barrage of snow hit his back, soaking a large patch.
He couldn’t help but grunt in pain.
On the other side, the cameraman was also running back, fearing being buried under the heavy snow.
“It’s bad, it’s really bad. On the way back, a snow avalanche just happened, trapping Mr. Si and Sang Qiao inside.”
“What? Quick, quick, quick, call the rescue team.” The director couldn’t stay seated, no longer caring to watch the others struggle to shovel snow.
The scene instantly descended into chaos.
Sang Shen also received the news from the cameraman. He jumped up from his chair on the set and hurried outside.
“Sang Emperor, we’re about to shoot; where are you going?”
“There’s been an avalanche. Qiaoqiao is trapped inside, alive or dead unknown, call for help quickly.”
Sang Shen tried to control the panic in his heart and remain calm. While instructing his agent to call for assistance, his steps were fast and urgent.
He knew he might not be of help upon reaching the scene, but he absolutely couldn’t stay calm and shoot here.
What do you think?
