Chapter 30: Chapter 30: While others are arguing, she's playing Candy Crush??
"Mr. Lin, although I'm not as good-looking, my ability to complete tasks is very strong!" Meng Wange stared at Lin Weichen nervously, afraid that he would choose Sang Jiao.
Then she would have to team up with Yao Hui again.
"Wange, let Brother Weichen make his own choice. There's no need to butt in," Sang Jiao said with an elegantly polite smile on her face, but inside, she had already cursed Meng Wange countless times. She had no self-awareness at all, daring to compete with her?
Even the foolish Yao Hui could see that he was being shunned. Both women would rather team up with a man who was as quiet as a mute than choose him?
And yet he had no say in the matter, being the one whom nobody had picked.
"I choose her," Lin Weichen glanced at both women before finally stretching out his hand to point at Meng Wange.
Sang Jiao's face stiffened, and she couldn't believe that this newcomer had actually chosen a country bumpkin like Meng Wange?
She suppressed her embarrassment and forced a smile. "Brother Weichen, if you're choosing her because of what Wange just said, there's no need. My ability to complete tasks isn't bad either."
"Just her, I won't change my mind," Lin Weichen repeated impatiently.
Meng Wange was both surprised and delighted in her heart. She had thought that Lin Weichen would choose Sang Jiao. She moved to his side and whispered, "Thank you."
"So Meng Wange will team up with Lin Weichen, and Sang Jiao with Yao Hui," the director announced.
"Alright." The smile on Sang Jiao's face completely stiffened, and her hands, which hung by her sides, clenched unconsciously into fists, her nails digging into her palms.
"Everyone's had a long day. Now that the groups are divided, you can follow and rest at the residence for a moment."
The director said while leading everyone forward. The journey wasn't far, and soon they arrived at their destination, which was somewhat disappointing compared to the guest house from the last episode.
It was a siheyuan-style old country house, with gray, dusty tiles, oozing a strong sense of the past.
"This way to the rooms, there are four in total. You can choose them later. This area is a communal kitchen, and here is the living room. Everyone go settle your luggage first, then you can come out to cook."
"Isn't the crew preparing dinner?" Lu Tianxin was a young lady whose hands had never been stained by spring water; she was clueless about cooking.
"We won't be preparing it. Unless there's an exception, you'll have to sort it out yourselves from now on. The ingredients are all there. Whether it's good or bad depends entirely on your skills."
After the director finished introducing, he stood with his hands behind his back, waiting for them to choose their rooms.
"No wonder there are so many stoves in that huge kitchen. They were planning this from the start." Meng Wange felt a headache just looking at all the pots and pans. @@novelbin@@
"Yao Hui, let's stay in this room," whispered Sang Jiao after secretly sizing up the four rooms, choosing the one on the farthest outside.
"Why do you get to choose first? It's the only one with a window," Meng Wange was not pleased. The four rooms were arranged side by side, which meant the other three in the middle wouldn't have much light, right?
"Wange, I didn't know you liked this room too. I saw that no one was speaking, so I just thought I'd pick one to rest in. Do you dislike me that much? Why do you always have to compete with me for everything?"
Sang Jiao showed confusion, as if she had really just picked casually, and the latter part of her statement subtly alluded to the matter of choosing participants.
[Meng Wange is really annoying. Does she only know how to snatch what others choose? I really don't know what Lin Weichen was thinking, choosing an ugly freak like Meng Wange?]
[Jiaojiao must be just tired and wants to rest early. The four rooms are nearly the same size, what's the difference? Does Meng Wange have to nitpick?]
[As someone who often rents houses, I must tell everyone, there is a difference! A big difference. The room Sang Jiao chose is probably the only one with a window. The other three must not have good lighting.]
"I'm not, but shouldn't there be some order to choosing rooms, like according to some ranking or something like that?" Meng Wange was a bit flustered by the accusation.
"Is it really necessary? It's just a room, anyone can allocate it. Why are you being so petty?"
Lu Tianxin looked at the bumpkin with mockery. To her, there was no difference between these four rooms.
"Wange, if you like this room, I can give it up for you, it's fine, but can you stop targeting me from now on? We're both on the same reality show, we'll have to get along for quite a while."
Sang Jiao endured in silence, her eyes red as if she had suffered a great injustice.
Yao Hui, being a man, couldn't stand seeing his beautiful partner being wronged.
"How have you survived until now, Meng Wange? Do you think the whole world should accommodate you? We're taking this room, what can you do about it?"
After shouting, he turned to comfort Sang Jiao, "Jiaojiao, don't bother with her. We spoke up first; we're not giving in."
"The director didn't say that calling dibs got us first pick," Meng Wange stubbornly retorted.
Just questioning her, and Sang Jiao would act as if she was being bullied by her. Disgusting. The more she acted like that, the less Wange wanted to give up the room.
After all, she had been cyberbullied for a long time because of her body and looks. One more time wouldn't make a difference.
Everyone fell into a slight silence. Seeing that the situation couldn't be resolved, the director, who had been a transparent figure for too long, cleared his throat and suggested, "How about the four of you female guests play rock-paper-scissors? The winner gets first pick, and so on."
"Let's do it that way," Meng Wange quickly agreed.
"I have no objections," Sang Jiao also chimed in, putting on an air of magnanimity.
Although Lu Tianxin thought it was childish, she stepped forward to join. The three gathered and then realized someone was missing. "Where's Sang Qiao?"
The cameraman also started panning the camera around in search of her. They found a figure crouched in a small corner in the back.
Sang Qiao squatted against the wall, engrossed in playing Candy Crush. To make matters more ridiculous, the game flashed with a 'Game Over—watch an ad to continue?' prompt.
Everyone: "..."
Maybe it was because too many pairs of eyes were watching her, but Sang Qiao also felt that something was off. She looked up to meet N pairs of eyes.
She tentatively asked, "Is it time to eat?"
[LOL, I'm dying. They're all there arguing and she's playing Candy Crush! Qiao, don't you have a bit of competitive spirit?]
[The director's going to be driven to madness by Sang Qiao; she's just too slovenly.]
[Help, does she not know that the show's no longer providing meals and they have to cook for themselves?]
[I think so. Ever since coming into this Siheyuan, there's been no sign of Sang Qiao. Is she just hiding in a corner playing Candy Crush?]
"...There's no meal, Sang Qiao, come over and play rock-paper-scissors to choose the rooms," the director said, disappointed as if his expectations had been dashed. He had only looked away for a moment, and Sang Qiao was already being uncooperative?
Hiding in a corner playing a game was one thing, but to be caught playing Candy Crush of all things—and losing at it!
"Okay." Sang Qiao pushed herself up against the wall, stood unsteadily, and nearly toppled over, her legs having gone numb from squatting too long.
With all four players gathered, they finally could play rock-paper-scissors. They formed a circle.
"Rock-paper-scissors!" Three voices rang out in unison.
Four hands stetched out simultaneously.
What do you think?
