Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Becoming a Grandmother
Jiang Changhai calculated the money at home and wasn’t sure if it was enough, as going to the hospital could be quite expensive.
Upon hearing this, Su Wanyu also came over to check the young boy’s condition.
She glanced outside and thought for a moment before saying, “Brother Hai, let’s wait and see. If the fever doesn’t go down in two hours, we’ll take him to the commune clinic. The clinic is so far from our home, and it’s pitch dark outside now, not to mention the roads are bad.”
Jiang Changhai also looked outside, nodded, and said, “Okay, then let’s wait a bit longer.”
“I’ll go wash a towel and put it on his forehead to see if it helps lower his temperature. Brother Hai, you go to dad’s room and get some alcohol. Later we can rub it on his body,” Su Wanyu organized efficiently.
“Hmm, I’ll go now.”
With the parents busy, the finally awake Mianmian saw the youth’s face flushed from the fever, mumbling something softly.
She curiously leaned closer to listen; it seemed like he was calling for his mom.
Unexpectedly, the boy stretched out his hot hand and firmly grasped hers again.
Mianmian, startled by his action, instinctively wanted to pull away, “I’m not your mom!”
“Mom, mom, don’t leave me. I feel so bad,” the boy said with his eyes closed, gripping Mianmian’s hand and whispering softly.
Seeing him like this, Mianmian couldn’t help but feel pity and let him hold her hand.
However, he still looked in pain, his voice plaintive and his cheeks flushed bright red, his expression as pitiful as an abandoned puppy.
“I’m here, I’m here,” Mianmian sighed, and like Su Wanyu used to comfort her to sleep, she started gently patting his belly.
Under her comforting, the boy’s furrowed brows relaxed.
Su Wanyu came in with a wet towel. Seeing the boy gripping her daughter’s hand, she smiled and asked, “How come you’ve started holding hands?”
Mianmian, feeling resigned, said, “He thinks I’m his mom.”
“Haha, then I guess I am not a grandmother!” Su Wanyu laughingly joked.
Mianmian, her face full of exasperation, really couldn’t deal with her mom’s silly antics.
Su Wanyu placed the wet towel on the boy’s forehead, trying to cool him down physically.
Sometime later, Jiang Changhai also came back holding a bowl of white alcohol.
Seeing his precious daughter’s hand being held by the boy, he immediately went over and roughly pulled the boy’s hand away.
And fiercely warned, “Young punk, even in your sleep you think of taking advantage of my daughter. Be careful or I’ll beat you to death!”
“Dad, I’m only eight years old,” Mianmian looked at her father, a bit amused yet exasperated. Her father was really overthinking.
“Go back to bed now. Your mom and I will take care of him,” Jiang Changhai tucked his thinly clad daughter back into the covers, saying softly.
Lying in bed, Mianmian said, “Dad, I’m not even sleepy. I’ll stay up with you guys.”
“Alright, if you get sleepy, just go to sleep,” agreed Su Wanyu as she nodded, instructing Jiang Changhai to rub alcohol on the boy’s neck and armpits.
Then the whole family lay on the kang, watching over the boy, occasionally reaching out to check his temperature.
About half an hour later, the boy’s temperature finally dropped, and the family felt relieved.
“Exhausted, time to sleep,” Jiang Changhai closed his eyes and almost instantly fell asleep.
The next morning, when Mianmian woke up well-rested, her parents were not in the room.
She went over and touched the boy’s forehead; it was cool and not feverish anymore.
What do you think?
