Chapter 54: Chapter 54 Unconditional Flattery
Jiang Changhai slapped the table and said with a scowl, “Don’t try to bluff me! And we’ve been friends for ten years, haven’t we? My wife and kids all need new clothes, give me a bit more!”
He was also thinking about his own wife, and if there were any extra cloth tickets, he would definitely get her a new outfit as well.
Old Niu then took out two cloth tickets and a piece of money from his cloth bag, stuffed them into Jiang Changhai’s bosom, and said with a pained face, “Take it, take it, I know you care about your wife and children. Let’s have a drink together when you’re free.”
“Sure!”
Although he often slacked off at work, Changhai was actually quite a smooth talker and enjoyed good relationships with others.
Once he had money in hand, Changhai never skimped. He even bought more meat buns and popsicles to pick up his daughter from school.
Jiang Mianmian held the big meat bun in her left hand and a popsicle in her right, munching and asking casually, “Dad, where did you get the money?”
The money from yesterday should have been nearly all spent by now, and her parents were certainly not ones to save money.
Jiang Changhai looked at her tenderly, stroking her hair, and said, “Today I went up the mountain and sold some game for a bit of money and two cloth tickets. I’ll ask your grandma for a little more later, and you and your mom can get new clothes. Aren’t you happy?”
“Happy!”
Jiang Mianmian looked genuinely delighted, then with a worried expression, she asked, “But Dad, you didn’t run into any danger, did you?”
She knew Mount Damang was rich with game, but it was also filled with many dangers.
Her dad might slack off when others were around, but he was willing to endure hardship for the sake of his wife and child.
He had exchanged two cloth tickets and hadn’t even thought about himself. All the tasty things were only for her and her mom.
“Don’t worry, my girl,” Jiang Changhai boasted with some pride, pointing to the trousers and coat in his basket, “Your dad’s a great hunter, no one’s going to hurt me. Besides, it’s only right to get new clothes for my precious daughter and wife!” He was fully equipped.
Yet Jiang Mianmian felt her eyes well up with tears. To have such a loving father was truly wonderful.
She blinked, pushed the meat bun and popsicle toward him, and said, “Dad, you’ve worked hard. You eat more.”
Jiang Changhai felt as if he’d fallen into a honey pot, biting off a piece of bun and smacking his lips, “Delicious, the buns in Mianmian’s hand are even tastier than the ones I have. Eat up, my good girl, they’re not as good when they’re cold.”
“Okay.” Jiang Mianmian smiled sweetly, her soft hair brushing Jiang Changhai’s palm, and she began gobbling up the meat bun.
Seeing his daughter eat so happily made Jiang Changhai feel even more content.
As long as his wife and daughter were well, he felt it was worth it, even if he had to go up to the mountains to hunt every day!
“Has anyone in class taken advantage of you being young to bully you? What did you have for lunch, were you full?”
Taking a bite of her meat bun, Jiang Mianmian adorably tilted her head and said, “No one’s bullying me. The teachers are very nice, they always check if I understand everything after class. My classmates are also good to me, and I was especially full at lunch. The school even has free pumpkin soup, which was really sweet.” @@novelbin@@
All was well.
Hearing this, Jiang Changhai smiled contentedly, “That’s good to hear. Eat more, you need energy to study.”
Jiang Mianmian patted her belly and held her little head high with pride, “Don’t worry, Dad, I definitely won’t go hungry. The lessons are easy to understand, too. I’ve seen most of the stuff in our previous textbooks, so I get it as soon as the teacher explains it. I’m sure I can pass the exams to get into high school.”
Since his daughter said so, regardless of whether she could get into high school in the end, he as a father would definitely praise her unconditionally.
What do you think?
