Chapter 30 - 30 Going to Uncle Xia’s House
Chapter 30: Chapter 30 Going to Uncle Xia’s House
“Eat up yourself, I’m not hungry; I’m off to my uncle’s,” Xia Chu said. She could tell at a glance that the food was scrimped and saved by Mother Xia herself. Having the option to eat in her ‘space,’ she really didn’t want to snatch away this meager ration.
Seeing she was still persistent in going to Uncle Xia’s, Mother Xia hesitated and said, “Chuyi, you should eat before you go… After all, you’re the Xia family’s daughter. It’s not good to trouble your uncle too often… Other people will talk, you know…”
Talk? Who dares to gossip?
It would be those from the Xia family.
Heh, they have the nerve to wag their tongues, accusing her and her mother of relying on Uncle Xia, yet they don’t have the decency to refuse Uncle Xia’s generosity.
After everything that happened in her past life, she had long realized that these people from the Xia family were just a bunch of jesters.
...
She didn’t want to argue with Mother Xia.
“I’m off,” Xia Chuyi didn’t listen to Mother Xia anymore. She left the Xia Family Courtyard and headed eastward through the village.
At the eastern entrance of He Mountain Village was a bungalow, the only one in the village.
The owner of this bungalow was none other than Xia Chuyi’s Uncle Xia—Zhao Minglang.
In He Mountain Village, there were two legends.
One was Xia Chuyi’s father, Xia Chenggui.
The other legend was Uncle Xia, Zhao Minglang.
Uncle Xia had started his own business, and in less than a year, he had built a flat-roofed house in his hometown.
Just because of this, whenever Uncle Xia was mentioned in He Mountain Village, everyone would give a thumbs-up.
Before Xia Chuyi even entered the courtyard, she heard Aunt Xia chastising her cousin, Zhao Xiaogui.
“Auntie!” she shouted into the courtyard, interrupting Aunt Xia’s lecture.
The door was quickly opened.
“Chuyi? When did you come back? Why didn’t you send someone ahead to let us know? I would have arranged for someone to pick you up.” Aunt Xia was quite surprised to see her, but the joy on her face couldn’t be concealed.
“I just got back. I’m a big girl now; I don’t need anyone to pick me up,” Xia Chu’s smile beamed as she handed over her bundle, “This is a gift I brought back for you from the Provincial City.”
“You’re back already; no need to bring gifts!” Aunt Xia shook her head, disapproving.
“It’s already bought, can’t return it now, and certainly, can’t leave it for those Xia family folks, can I?” Xia Chuyi insisted on giving the gifts to Aunt Xia.
“You, child!” Aunt Xia finally accepted the gift with a laugh, “Come inside quickly, it’s so cold out! Sigh, even if you’re bringing gifts, you didn’t have to visit right after coming home!”
Once inside, Aunt Xia immediately directed her freshly scolded cousin, “Go, bring out all the tasty stuff for your sister!”
“Eh, alright!” Her cousin, ducking another lecture, made faces at Xia Chuyi and dashed off.
Setting the bundle aside, Aunt Xia took Xia Chuyi’s hand and began to inquire in detail about everything that happened in Provincial City.
“What, a broken engagement?” Aunt Xia stood up, shocked.
“Chuyi, tell Auntie, what exactly happened? Did those people cause trouble?” Aunt Xia was incensed.
Family is not merely through blood, but through the heart as well, and Aunt Xia was just as uncompromising as Xia Chuyi, she grabbed her, ready to confront the responsible parties.
“Forget it, Auntie. Being able to see someone’s true character before getting married is a good thing,” Xia Chuyi chuckled without a care.
Aunt Xia scrutinized her closely, while Xia Chuyi remained nonchalant, letting her look her over.
What do you think?
