Chapter 39: Chapter 39 Appropriate or Not
Xia Chuyi shook her head, ignoring Huo Shiqian’s increasingly gloomy expression, and continued.
“Third, and most importantly, how long have we known each other? If you really count, we’ve only met four times. You don’t understand me, and I don’t understand you. How can two people who don’t understand each other get married?”
Mustering her courage, she finished in one breath.
“One last thing, I’ve said before, our start was due to an accident, and there isn’t an emotional foundation. One day in the future, perhaps you’ll meet the person you truly love, and then, you might regret the decision you made today.”
His oppressive gaze captured her eyes for a long time, making her feel as if her body weighed a thousand pounds.
Xia Chuyi stiffened her neck, staring straight into Huo Shiqian’s eyes, waiting for his answer.
...
Perhaps it was because he was too angry at her, so angry that he reached an extreme, but Huo Shiqian’s emotions steadied. @@novelbin@@
The icy aura gradually faded, and Huo Shiqian began slowly.
“Regarding the first point, the age issue, I know many couples with a large age gap who are quite happy together, nothing like the generational gap you mentioned.”
After saying this, Huo Shiqian paused, then emphasized, “Moreover, I’m only 28 this year, not even thirty, not as old as you think.”
Xia Chuyi blinked, why did it feel like that was the main point he wanted to make?
“The second, the issue of social class, revolutionary marriages don’t care about that.”
“The third, what you believe to be the most important point, strangers shouldn’t marry; I disagree. Since ancient times, there have been many blind marriages where the couple had never even seen each other beforehand and yet lived happily. Besides, we’ve met a few times, so we’ve got to know each other to a certain extent.”
Hearing this, Xia Chuyi couldn’t help but interject: “Know each other? What do you know about me?”
“Stubbornness, in your eyes, there’s a spirit, an unyielding stubbornness,” Huo Shiqian said, gazing steadily into her eyes with certainty, “That’s why you’re a good match for me.”
All the words Xia Chuyi had prepared vanished in her throat.
She hadn’t misheard, Huo Shiqian was indeed praising her.
Praising that character of hers that others complain about, as stubborn and unyielding as a rock in a latrine.
Xia Chuyi focused on Huo Shiqian and spoke slowly, word by word, “Huo Shiqian, do you understand what you’re saying?”
Her feelings were very complex.
“I have a bad temper, I’m stubborn, I’m capricious, I won’t bow down, won’t concede, won’t be gentle… There’s so much I can’t do, I won’t be an obedient good wife, nor a gentle daughter-in-law, with someone like me, are you sure you want that?”
Suddenly, Huo Shiqian lifted his hand and caressed her face.
She trembled a bit, not knowing what kind of answer she was anticipating.
“Ow…” Suddenly, her cheek was twisted hard by Huo Shiqian, causing her to cry out in pain.
After pinching her cheek and patting her, Huo Shiqian said lightly, “What’s with all the nonsense emotions, you little brat?”
“Huo Shiqian!” she said through clenched teeth.
She glared at him fiercely, rubbing her face. She stared at Huo Shiqian’s chiseled handsome face, imagining it twisted beyond recognition, which would surely be satisfying.
What do you think?
