Chapter 41 - 41 I Promise You
“Oh, if there’s anything else on your mind, say it all.” Huo Shiqian’s voice betrayed no emotion.
Xia Chuyi sighed, relaxed her body, and leaned against the back of the chair.
Her gaze fixed straight ahead.
“Huo Shiqian, setting aside family background, personality, status… I’m only eighteen. There are still so many things I want to do, and I don’t want to enter into marriage prematurely.”
Images from her past life surfaced one by one in her mind.
“I have my own convictions, and people I need to protect. I can’t fall into the role of a wife…”
“The person you want to protect, who is that?” Huo Shiqian’s voice contained the undercurrent of a storm.
She glanced at him.
“You’re overthinking it. It’s not He Qing, nor Xia Lan…”
Having said that, she suddenly bit her tongue.
How did she read into Huo Shiqian’s intentions again?
She coughed, pretending it was accidental, and changed the subject: “The person I want to protect is my uncle.”
“I don’t know if you’ll believe me, but I had a dream. I dreamt of a disaster in Ling County with snow and ice everywhere, and my uncle driving home. On the way, the car went off a cliff… the vehicle destroyed and the man lost.”
The swirling white snowflakes transformed into a sky full of precious fluttering bills.
The big character “Condolences” was imprinted before her eyes.
Xia Chuyi couldn’t help but shake, her fists clenched so tight that her fingernails dug into her flesh.
“I must, I must save my uncle!” Xia Chuyi enunciated each word firmly.
Huo Shiqian frowned; watching her without saying a word.
She calmed her emotions and looked at him.
“Maybe you think dreams are just dreams… but to me, I believe it’s reality.”
She forced a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes.
“See, that’s the kind of person I am. I have many dreams and concerns. Until I resolve these worries from my dreams, I have no interest in anything else.”
“So?” Huo Shiqian watched her, his voice flat.
Xia Chuyi felt somewhat helpless; this man still didn’t seem to give up.
“Alright, I’ll make it clear. So, if you can accept these worries and troubles of mine, if you can accept that I might act and speak in a distracted way… I can reluctantly agree to you.”
No sooner had the words left her mouth than Huo Shiqian answered with irrevocable certainty: “I accept.”
Xia Chuyi glared at him: “Won’t you think it over carefully?”
“Think over what?” Xia Chuyi was stubborn, and it was clear that Huo Shiqian was even more so, “Deal with He Qing’s matter at your home as soon as possible. A month from now, I’ll send someone to your home to propose.”
Again that tone of commanding notice.
“Wait a minute!” Xia Chuyi cried out unwillingly.
“Do you have anything else to say?” Huo Shiqian narrowed his eyes, his presence suddenly bursting forth, obviously not prepared to give her any room for opposition.
She raised her hand tentatively, coughing: “Uncle Liberation Army, when I said I agree, I didn’t mean agreeing to marriage.”
“What do you mean?” An overwhelming presence bore down on her.
Xia Chuyi steadied her spirit and said indifferently: “What I mean is, I only agree… to you courting me.”@@novelbin@@
