Chapter 43 - 43 Entrusting Someone with a Task
Xia Chuyi got off the car and saw the driver, a soldier, standing at attention not far away.
“Little sister-in-law, hello!” the driver soldier saluted her, “Take care, little sister-in-law, goodbye!”
This string of “little sister-in-law” left Xia Chuyi utterly speechless.
Most importantly, the young driver was saluting her with the utmost seriousness, which made her unsure whether she should respond or not.
After saluting, the driver jogged back to the vehicle, started the engine, but didn’t drive away.
Huo Shiqian rolled down the car window, and they looked at each other through the window, inside and outside the car.
“Remember what I said,” Huo Shiqian still spoke in that indifferent tone, his gaze meaningful as he stared at her.
“Yes, I remember everything,” she nodded obediently.
She had resignedly admitted that she seemed to be able to read his mind.
Are you satisfied now, Uncle Liberation Army?
Sure enough, Huo Shiqian nodded at her reaction, withdrew his gaze, and ordered to drive off.
The military vehicle kicked up a trail of exhaust and roared away.
Only after the military vehicle had completely disappeared did Xia Chuyi let out a huge sigh of relief.
Finally, she had sent this lord on his way!
She was totally unprepared for Huo Shiqian’s arrival.
The so-called two-year agreement… In two years, anything could change.
If after two years, he still insisted on marrying her, then why not marry him?
The her in two years would definitely not be the her of now.
Casting aside stray thoughts, she looked around. Fortunately, the weather was cold, and there weren’t many people on the streets, plus the short duration of Huo Shiqian’s stay hadn’t attracted a crowd.
If the weather had been good, a fancy military car coming to a small county town would surely have drawn layers of spectators.@@novelbin@@
Adjusting her collar and looking down, she quickly left the spot, slipping into an alley. Making sure no one was paying attention, she quickly straightened up her appearance.
It was all Huo Shiqian’s fault; her hair was a complete mess.
After she had fixed herself up, she walked out of the alley and continued on her previously planned route to the small market not far from the county’s bus station.
Once at the market, she made her way to the back door of the Cooperative Supply and Marketing Department Store’s warehouse.
“Eh, Chuyi, what brings you to the city? Where’s your Uncle Xia?” The warehouse keeper was quite surprised to see Xia Chuyi.
The warehouse keeper, a middle-aged man named Qian Wei, had a good rapport with Uncle Xia.
When Uncle Xia first started his business venture, Qian Wei, through connections, got a job at the department store’s warehouse.
Uncle Xia, who was in charge of goods transportation, took advantage of Qian Wei’s convenient position, and established business dealings with the department store.
After a few encounters, Qian Wei had met Xia Chuyi several times.
“Uncle Qian, my uncle is out delivering goods and hasn’t returned. I’ve come to see you,” Xia Chuyi said with a smile to the middle-aged man.
“Well, that’s unusual. Tell me, why does my great-niece need to see me? How am I related to your uncle? Whatever I can do to help, I will do it for you,” Qian Wei said with great enthusiasm.
Xia Chuyi took a small package out of her backpack first. It was wrapped in paper like a little gift box, neat and square with clean edges.
“Uncle, this is some snacks I brought from the Provincial City. Take them home for the kids,” she said, passing over the small pack with a smile.
First, she had to offer a favor; with the favor given, it would be easier to ask for help.
What do you think?
