After Marrying the Officer

Chapter 87: 87 Did You Believe It?

Chapter 87: Chapter 87 Did You Believe It?

“Business trip?” She looked at Huo Shiqian’s face, his visage ever so handsome and composed as always.

Perhaps it was due to Huo Shiqian’s excessive composure that, despite the muddy rural roads, she couldn’t shake the feeling that they had just strolled out of a riverside willow-tree-lined path from a date.

Tsk, tsk, tsk, what nonsense am I thinking! She shook her head to dismiss this amusing fantasy.

Her thoughts returned to the right track.

For some reason she always felt that Huo Shiqian’s sudden appearance in Ling County wasn’t as simple as just a business trip.

“Was it a coincidence that you saved my uncle on the road?” Finally, Xia Chuyi looked up at him and voiced her biggest question.

...

Huo Shiqian stopped walking, turned his head to look at her revealing a faint smile, then lowered his head and asked softly, “What do you think?”

She also stopped and met his gaze.

Biting her lip, she asked him very seriously and earnestly, “Huo Shiqian, do you really believe that dream I told you about?”

That ridiculous dream, those absurd words, did Huo Shiqian actually believe them?

The corners of Huo Shiqian’s mouth curled into a slight smile as he said, “Do you want to hear the truth?”

“Mhm.” Xia Chuyi nodded vigorously.

“Alright, I’ll tell you,” he retracted his elusive smile and said indifferently, “Saving your uncle was a mere twist of fate.”

While he spoke, Huo Shiqian remained expressionless, as calm as ever.

“Really?” She tilted her head, furrowing her brows, finding it hard to believe.

“Really.” Huo Shiqian nodded and continued, “However, I did indeed have someone inquire about your Uncle Xia’s route.”

It hadn’t been a matter of overthinking; upon recalling something Xia Chuyi had once mentioned, he had casually asked someone to check.

Since he was already in Ling County, knowing Uncle Xia’s route, he contemplated and then told his people to take the same road.

And they indeed encountered him.

“Do you believe me?” Xia Chuyi’s eyes shone, “Can you really believe such a ludicrous dream?”

Still with his calm demeanor, Huo Shiqian glanced at her peacefully and flicked her smooth forehead.

“Always overthinking, aren’t you, child?” His voice contained a subtle doting.

Xia Chuyi first stiffened, then realizing what he meant, slapped his hand away indignantly, “What’s with you always touching me!”

Seeing her frown in annoyance, the corners of Huo Shiqian’s mouth lifted gently.

For a moment, Xia Chuyi felt as if ice and snow were melting, and everything was coming back to life.

Cough, cough, cough, she rubbed her forehead, thinking to herself: This iceberg melting is indeed quite a sight to behold.

“Ahem.” She coughed to cover up her distraction by his handsomeness and looked straight into his eyes, saying sincerely, “Regardless, Huo Shiqian, I want to thank you.”

Whether by coincidence or on purpose, he did save her uncle after all.

“How will you thank me?” Huo Shiqian raised an eyebrow, his deep voice resonating by her ear.

Xia Chuyi mimicked his raised eyebrow, spread her hands, and quipped, “Shouldn’t you be saying ‘you’re welcome’?”

Huo Shiqian nodded, earnestly responding, “Why not be thanked? Gratitude is a virtue.”

Heh heh.

Hearing this, Xia Chuyi’s eyes curved into crescents, and she said with a smile, “Then let’s say debts of the father are to be repaid by the son, and likewise kindness. I’ll have my cousin repay your kindness!”

After her playful remark, her bright eyes sparkled mischievously.
