After Marrying the Officer

Chapter 89: 89: I Will Write More

Chapter 89: Chapter 89: I Will Write More

Suddenly, Xia Chuyi thought of a possibility and asked him, “Huo Shiqian, tell me the truth, you didn’t write me a letter today as well, did you?”

“Um, I did.” Huo Shiqian nodded calmly, with an incredibly natural attitude.

“It’s not that you wrote just a few words again, is it?” She was really very curious.

Huo Shiqian fell silent.

Xia Chuyi followed suit in silence.

Very good, this was a moment where silence spoke volumes.

...

“Um, maybe you shouldn’t write anymore…” she carefully suggested.

That profoundly Liberation-Army-Uncle style of correspondence, one or two letters might have been okay, but any more than that, she feared she might go insane.

Huo Shiqian looked at her with a calm gaze, lifted his hand, and touched her head: “I’ll still write. In the future, I’ll write more words.”

This was a promise.

Xia Chuyi looked at him skeptically and asked, “Are you sure?”

Why couldn’t she bring herself to believe it?

Still a little silent.

Xia Chuyi found that Huo Shiqian was particularly interesting; even though the atmosphere was awkward, seeing his innocent yet awe-inspiring face made everything seem calm and collected somehow.

“I’ll do my best.” After a while, Huo Shiqian said.

Listen to that, even his voice was stern and proper, without a trace of awkwardness.

She stared at him hard, then stared some more, suddenly feeling an itch in her hand, wanting to pinch his cheek to see if his expression would change.

She seemed to understand a little why Huo Shiqian liked to be hands-on.

Of course, give her ten times the courage, and she still wouldn’t dare pinch the face of Uncle Liberation Army.

Since she was mulling over this and being silent for a moment, the embarrassment grew.

Suddenly, Huo Shiqian reached out, took off the military coat he was wearing, flung it open, and with a 180-degree swing around her, wrapped her in the coat.

“It’s cold,” Huo Shiqian said softly, looking down.

He buttoned up the coat from top to bottom for her and gently said, “Wear this on your way back.”

Xia Chuyi was stunned, taking a moment to catch up with what Huo Shiqian was doing.

“Remember to reply to my letter.” After saying that, Huo Shiqian turned around and with long strides, walked away from the spot.

Leaving Xia Chuyi wrapped in Huo Shiqian’s coat, speechless.

This man…

She couldn’t help but want to say something. The warmth from Huo Shiqian’s remaining body heat in the coat suddenly warmed her.

But in the end, she said nothing.

Xia Chuyi gathered the coat closer and accidentally looked down to see specks of mud on it—stains from when Huo Shiqian had embraced her.

Wait a second, this man couldn’t be expecting her to wash his clothes, could he?

Thinking this, she couldn’t help but laugh to herself.

After laughing, she took off the coat and stored it in her space.

As a joke, if she were to wear Huo Shiqian’s coat back home, who knows what Uncle Xia might think!

She paused in her steps.

Eh, could it be that this was exactly what Huo Shiqian had in mind?

Shaking her head, Xia Chuyi found it amusing in her heart.

Whenever she encountered Huo Shiqian, her mind seemed to become overly flexible, imagining too many things.

Casting off the messy thoughts, Xia Chuyi hurried back home.

Upon arriving, she found Uncle Xia and Aunt Xia sitting by the stove, still enthusiastically discussing Huo Shiqian.

“Huo Commander’s presence… tsk tsk tsk”

A spree of free compliments which basically summed up to: saying his every move was impressive, saying he was full of righteousness, saying he seemed like a role model, a fine military officer.

They also said it was such a pity that there was no suitable match for Xia Chuyi among his subordinates.

After a long discussion, that last statement turned out to be the crux of the matter.

Xia Chuyi listened with a mix of laughter and tears.

She really couldn’t understand how all the preceding praises of Huo Shiqian ended up being linked to whether or not there was someone suitable for Xia Chuyi among his men.
