Chapter 102: 102: Who is the Murderer?
Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Who is the Murderer?
“I toil every year to earn a billion for the company, yet I don’t receive a single share of its equity. Just because Xiaoqi is the youngest, does everyone have to yield to her? Suddenly, I think October 1st is a good day. She finally died, but what saddens me is that the hundred billion is gone, and so is my mother…”
Quan Jingyou clicked his tongue, “Is this still about burial sacrifices? It’s creepy. It couldn’t be the eldest sister, could it?”
He glanced at the five-minute countdown on the screen, feeling instantly anxious, “Sister Tian, hurry, time is running out.”
The box’s password was on this piece of paper.
“They may unlock this lock, but it’s useless. There’s also that lock on the door to the second floor. Obviously, to unlock this box, that door lock must light up, allowing someone to enter the password.”
“Ah, it’s killing me; why are the escape routes and directions different for the two groups? It feels like two different scripts, just to see who wins at the end, right?”
“Suddenly, I thought of something—today is the final day of the game, right? Won’t they be off the show tomorrow?”
“Wasn’t it supposed to be five days and four nights? Emmm, if you calculate it like that, tomorrow is the fourth day, the fifth day they go home. Damn, that’s fast; this variety show is ending. Has Director Yan mentioned on the official blog when the next season will be?”
“He hasn’t said anything; it’s not even sure if we can get the Wealthy Family group back on the show. Without them, there’ll be less fun. I definitely won’t keep watching unless Yan Ming manages to keep the Wealthy Family on the show.”
Ji Tian looked at the numbers above and handed the box to Yu Chuang, “Try 1510.”
“It’s the fifteen percent equity and the billion that big sister earned for the company.”
Yu Chuang’s fingers glided, then shook his head, “That’s not it.”
Ji Tian frowned, continuing to search for clues in the paper as Qin Jiangsheng, noting the three-minute countdown, said, “0610.”
Yu Chuang was so tense that he started to sweat.
“Click.”
The lock on the box opened, revealing a torn map inside. The door lock, which had been dark, lit up with a green light, and footsteps, “thud thud,” echoed from the entrance of the church.
Quan Jingyou was almost in tears, “Run, hurry, she’s coming.”
With a one-minute countdown, a figure in white stood by the railing of the second floor. Her hair hung loose, covering her face, as if she would fly down and tear them apart once time expired.
Quan Jingyou, crawling and kneeling, reached the door lock as Ji Tian quickly entered the password: “0112.”
In the last ten seconds, the door opened, and they rushed in. Ji Tian slammed the door shut, hearing an object hitting from the other side.
Ji Tian, holding the door with one hand, said, “You guys go up and open the door on the second floor, I’ll hold off these NPCs outside.”
Quan Jingyou’s heart stopped in fear; who would have thought these things would really play like this, even slamming into the door? He followed the main group upstairs.
While Ji Tian braced the door, the outside impact didn’t move her. She even had time to chat through the door, “Stop hitting; you’re going to break the door. The entrance fee of 240 yuan is way less than the value of this door.”
NPC: “…”
This doesn’t make sense.
He used to terrify the groups of young men and women who came exploring, especially when he banged on the door; the louder they screamed inside, the more excited he got. Great, he had met his match. Four or five people bracing the door, huh.
He didn’t give up, continuing to bang, determined to pull one of them out of the game on the first floor.
“I was pretty scared, but suddenly it became dramatic. Even through the screen, I could feel the NPC’s despair.”
“I had almost forgotten—they still have Ji Tian in their team. She actually had the leisure to chat with NPCs through the door, what a sight to see…”
“This is the legendary superhuman strength— even Lu Zhishen would have to bow down to her.”
Ji Tian didn’t move a muscle, while the NPCs outside in white clothes got exhausted, eventually going on strike as they weren’t being paid enough to make up for breaking the doors.
The sound of the door opening upstairs was heard, and immediately the lock on the first-floor door automatically locked.
It was then that Ji Tian let go and walked upstairs.
Quan Jingyou continued to ask, “Brother Jiang, how did you know the password was 0610?”
Going upstairs led to a long corridor with many rooms, the first one being a dance studio.
Upon hearing, Qin Jiangsheng replied indifferently, “Tan Xiaodie died on October 1, Sister Tian said her seven-day mourning period hadn’t even passed. Count back to the 6th plus the billion she emphasized heavily, and there’s your password.”
“What the heck, when did you become so smart? That doesn’t sound like the second-to-last in school you used to be.”
Qin Jiangsheng remained expressionless, “I blindly guessed.”
Quan Jingyou: “…”
Why couldn’t he blindly guess correctly?
“Sister Tian, did you know the first-floor main door’s password from the start?”
Ji Tian walked in from behind and nodded, “The ‘road to happiness’ isn’t tough to figure out, right? A wedding held exactly at noon on the 1st, isn’t that happiness?”
“…”
Hearing this, indeed it wasn’t difficult.
The first room was a dance studio, next to it was a gym, a library, a cinema room, a piano room, and many bedrooms whose occupants were unknown. Along the corridor stood a man-high vase, knight armors of the European royalty, and oil paintings of human faces hanging on the walls.
Compared to the bloody first floor, the second floor was much more elegant, with paintings like the ‘Mona Lisa’s smile’ and numerous portraits with distorted faces.
Quan Jingyou carefully observed around, fearing that something might suddenly spring from the dark corridor. After noticing nothing unusual, he turned back, yet his heart still raced. He kept feeling as if a multitude of eyes were watching him, making him glance at those dim oil paintings.
A gust of chilling wind blew, making him press closer to Qin Jiangsheng. If it weren’t for his fear, Quan Jingyou would have climbed onto him to seek refuge.
Tan Xiaodie’s voice emerged from the dance room:
“You’ve finally come upstairs, my dear guests. I’ve been waiting for you for a long time. I’ve recently been troubled by something that’s been bothering me until death—I can’t figure out why. Mr. Gong and I got engaged on May 20, 2005. Back then, he promised me a luxurious wedding of the century. While I looked forward to it, I was reluctant to let him spend so much, so I secretly followed him.”
“The wedding venue was chosen at this church, which isn’t actually a church but a castle constructed by someone else. It has an owner, seemingly a middle-aged woman, whom Mr. Gong often visited and stayed for two hours. Initially, I thought it was consulting, until his frequent visits revealed something off. I thought he was cheating until I found a box in his cabinet that couldn’t be opened, engraved with my name.”
“I hid the box at the very top of the bookshelf on the right side of the library. Find it and open it. You have only half an hour. Tell me what Mr. Gong’s secret is and identify the female owner of the castle. I’ll be quietly watching from the shadows, no slacking off.”
The surroundings were so dark that they barely saw each other’s faces.
Ji Tian let them approach first and illuminated the quarter fragment of a map with the candle, which showed a route leading to the opposite castle.
“Here’s what we’ll do, we’ll split into two groups—one to find the box mentioned by Tan Xiaodie, and the other to search the remaining rooms. We only have half an hour; we need to hurry. Once two hours pass, we’ll declare the game lost.”
Yu Chuang raised no objections. Quan Jingyou held tightly onto Ji Tian, clearly choosing to stick with her. He sighed deeply, giving strict instructions, “The three of us stars will stick together, and you three go separately. If anything happens, shout loudly, and we’ll come right over.”
Ji Tian nodded seriously, “Alright, same goes for you. If there’s danger, scream your lungs out; I’ll intervene in time.”
Yu Chuang: “…?”
What do you think?
