Chapter 29 - 29 Breaking the Wooden Hut
Chapter 29: Chapter 29 Breaking the Wooden Hut
There were five people in the car, and the three of them were the happiest, even blasting a song with a strong beat.
"If I were a DJ, would you love me, would you love me..."
The three sang and danced with such gusto, they nearly shook the car apart.
Ji Tian felt her ears were burning and her heart a tad uneasy. Although these three kidnappers didn't seem too bright, it was her first time experiencing a kidnapping.
How should she put it...
She was actually a little excited. Having occasionally watched TV dramas of this sort, she was quite familiar with the process.
It was clear that the three kidnappers were targeting her, and Qin Jiangsheng was just an add-on. Rounded up, could he be considered caught in her wake?
She glanced at Qin Jiangsheng, who was sitting silently next to her, his gaze lowered and his face cold, not knowing what he was thinking.
But he was still young, and must be feeling very panicked and scared.
Ji Tian leaned in closer and whispered in his ear, "Qin Jiangsheng, don't be scared, I'll protect you."
The scent of light roses emanated from the girl, her tone gentle and earnest. Qin Jiangsheng turned his head, the two now so close he could see the fuzz on Ji Tian's face and the gleaming black pools of her eyes.
Having grown so big, this was the first time Qin Jiangsheng had heard someone say they would protect him.
He didn't have much fondness for Ji Tian; lately, he had paid her little attention, she had been chattering nonstop by his ear, annoying him to the point where he wanted to dig a hole and bury this woman.
For the first time, a fissure appeared in the walls around his tightly sealed heart, spreading an emotion he couldn't understand.
Ji Tian turned her head towards the still humming and joyful trio and struck up a conversation, "What did you guys do for a living?"
Both the kidnappers and non-kidnappers fell silent.
Baldie turned his head, his expression menacingly grim, and said, "Can't you tell? We're kidnappers, that's our trade."
Ji Tian blinked, "Oh, I mean what jobs did you do before becoming kidnappers? Were they positions with benefits?"
Baldie: "..."
Fei Long laughed, "You sure have a lot to say, little girl. Before we were kidnappers, we all trudged through life on sewing machines, where there were no benefits or even work allowed!"
Ji Tian suddenly realized, "So you've just come out of prison. Do you guys kill people?"
Fei Long, cigar clenched in his teeth, squinted dangerously, "Not anymore. We didn't kill anybody on our way here; otherwise, you two would be dead already."
Ji Tian tentatively concluded that these three were easy to fool.
So she continued, "Alright, as long as you don't kill us, that's fine. Give me a cellphone, so I can call my brother and have him bring ransom money for me."
The three brothers exchanged looks.
Could she be any more cooperative? No tears, no fuss, even volunteering to call her family?!
With her inherent confidence, thanks to a "Strength Value" of three points, Ji Tian felt that if she got in a fight with the two-hundred-pounder in front of her, she might actually win.
Keeping wary, Baldie said, "Once we get to the location, you'll be allowed to make the call."
Ji Tian's eyes lit up, "Are we going back to your hideout? Is it far?"
Baldie: "..."
Why did she seem as excited as if she were going to her own home?
He kept a stern face, "You'll know when we get there. Why do you talk so much?"
Ji Tian then fell silent.
The whole way, the car swayed and lurched, making Ji Tian's head spin until she found herself leaning on Qin Jiangsheng's shoulder.
He shifted a bit to the inside, and Ji Tian continued to lean in, jokingly claiming that he was the softest one in the car and why not use him as a human pillow?
She certainly didn't want to sit up straight and exhaust herself.
Qin Jiangsheng had no room to retreat and was forced to serve as Ji Tian's pillow; he looked down at this carefree woman who could even sleep in such an environment and found himself at a loss for words.
But he was fully alert, watching the passing scenery outside, trying to figure out where they were heading until he saw a dense forest, which made Qin Jiangsheng lean against the car wall.
The car had already left Capital City and reached the outskirts; now, with nightfall, he couldn't make heads or tails of their location.
Four hours later, they arrived at their destination.
It was a decrepit wooden hut on the mountaintop; luckily, it wasn't too cold yet. Even if the house was drafty, it wasn't a problem, but inside it was really too shabby.
Broken chairs, a broken table, and a dilapidated bed covered with straw.
There was also an old man sleeping on the straw, who apparently had been tied up there, but was now snoring loudly.
Ji Tian glanced at Baldie, "You don't even let old men go?"
Baldie: "..."
They had kidnapped the old man by accident the day before, thinking they could get a ransom, but his family immediately declared they were willing to execute all sorts of punishments on them; they definitely wouldn't pay the ransom to get the old man back.
The three kidnappers had no choice but to keep him for now and chase him away later. After all, the old man needed to eat five buns per meal; who could afford to feed him?
Hearing noise, the white-haired old man sat up from the ground, sleepily looking at the group, and instantly woke up, "You're back? Where are the buns? I'm starving."
Baldie, with visible annoyance, threw a bag of buns by his feet, and the white-haired old man happily started eating, while Ji Tian and Qin Jiangsheng were pushed next to him.
The old man took an extra glance at Qin Jiangsheng as he gnawed on the buns, squinting and smiling, "Yo, you got quite a catch this time, kidnapping such a handsome young man. Must be worth a decent ransom."
Skinny rolled his eyes in annoyance, "He doesn't have anything valuable on him, so how much could he be worth? Just another poor guy. I bet his family is also broke, not worth as much as the girl with the gold chain next to him."
The white-haired old man's eyes briefly glanced over the gold chain on Ji Tian's neck, nodded in agreement and nonchalantly asked, "Young lady, would you give me your gold chain? What if I teach you all of my lifetime's medical skills in exchange?" @@novelbin@@
Ji Tian had a wooden expression on her face. Did she look that stupid? Such a clumsy scam, huh.
She sat down next to the old man, "I'm not interested in learning medicine."
Why would she want to learn something so tiring? Law was exhausting enough in her last life; she didn't want to learn anything like medicine this time.
Besides, her family already had a doctor, her second brother; she just wanted to slack off.
The white-haired old man clucked his tongue lightly, "This is Ancient Medicine; it's quite fun."
"I don't believe it. You don't look like a practitioner of Ancient Medicine; you look more like a swindler."
The white-haired old man laughed, "You're so smart, you've seen right through me?"
Ji Tian: "..."
Help! Why did she have to meet such a strange old man?
She looked at Baldie, but they showed no interest in letting her call her family; they were even setting up a table to play Fight the Landlord.
Ji Tian asked, "When can I make a call to my family?"
Baldie, smoking a cigarette: "What's the rush?"
Ji Tian, with a serious face, "I'm in a hurry to get home to sleep; if I don't wake up in my family's one thousand square meters yard every day, I'll feel itchy all over."
The three kidnappers: "..."
Skinny, with disdain, "What kind of nonsense are you spouting? A thousand-square-meter yard? Why don't you just say you wake up in the Pacific?"
What do you think?
