Chapter 253 252: Has Lu Liang Gone Mad?
"Secretary Wen, hello, maybe you could contact some other people to come over? It's really inconvenient right now."
If there hadn't been an audience, he probably would have agreed, but at the moment, there were at least dozens of onlookers.
What's more, some had already taken out their cell phones, ready to record the collusion between government and business, a scene of bending the law for personal gain.
He wanted to agree, but he didn't dare.
"Sorry for the trouble."
Wen Chao's words reached his lips but were swallowed back; he couldn't say much more. Although he was Lu Liang's secretary, he had just graduated a year ago and had never been involved in using his position to bully others.
He could only ask Fang Shiyu if he knew anyone who was particularly close to Lu Liang and could come over quickly.
He had already found someone to help drive, was walking away from the congested accident site, and then taking a cab over.
Without hesitation, Fang Shiyu called Su Wanyu. He only had her number, and Yu had even met his aunt and uncle before, likely the cousin closest to him.
Twenty-odd minutes later, Su Wanyu hurried over and, after getting the full picture, said, "Shiyu, you go ahead and give your statement. I'll keep watch here."
After that, she followed the medical staff to the ward where the ward director informed her, "Miss, Mr. Lu has acute pneumonia. We've already given him preliminary treatment. If Mr. Lu wakes up, please be sure to let us know immediately."
"Okay, okay, thank you all," Su Wanyu sighed in relief, having been startled when she first heard Lu Liang was hospitalized.
Fortunately, it was just acute pneumonia, not some serious or complicated disease that would require surgery or leave sequelae.
"Always so busy with work, living irregularly, and fond of smoking..."
Su Wanyu sat in front of the hospital bed, looking at the always dynamic Lu Liang, who now lay with his eyes closed tightly, coughing unconsciously, and felt an inexplicable heartache.
"I'll definitely make you quit smoking this time. Keep it up and later on, you won't even be able to have kids. Then you'll be scared."
Su Wanyu muttered softly, following the doctor's instructions to moisten his lips with a cotton swab and timely replace the towels to reduce his fever with physical cooling.
Not long after, Wen Chao also hurried over. Seeing Su Wanyu caring for Lu Liang in the ward, he breathed a sigh of relief.
He didn't dare to leave first and exchanged a silent greeting with Su Wanyu, keeping vigil at the hospital ward's doorway.
Ten minutes later, Wen Chao's expression changed dramatically when he saw a pretty, hurried-looking girl.
His heart cursed silently.
Fang Shiyu was setting him up, but not like this.
He was asked to contact one person, so why reach out to two?
Was this heading towards a chaotic scene?
"Secretary Wen, I finally found you. I just saw on Weibo's trending topics, which ward is Mr. Lu in?"
Li Manli looked panicked, having recently been addicted to King of Glory, streaming until two or three in the morning each night.
Just as she was about to end the stream, her chat flooded with comments that Lu Liang was done for.
At first, she thought they were joking until she saw the real-time trending list on Weibo.
Lu Liang in a car accident?
Lu Liang's life hung by a thread?
Lu Liang was done for?
Related trending searches quickly soared into the top ten, along with numerous on-site photos.
Lu Liang being carried by Fang Shiyu, then pushed in a wheelchair by the medical staff into the hospital, throughout the whole time, his eyes remained tightly closed.
In a panic, Li Manli tried calling but got no answer. Once she learned that Lu Liang was at the city hospital, she didn't even remove her makeup before rushing over.
Wen Chao glanced at the ward and reluctantly said, "Miss Li, Mr. Lu isn't in any serious danger. How about you head back first? I'll explain the situation to Mr. Lu later."
Although he had a girlfriend, she was his high school sweetheart. They had a strong relationship of six years and planned to marry. He really didn't know how to deal with this situation.
But one thing he was sure of, he absolutely couldn't let the two girls meet each other, or else it would be a disaster.
"He's fainted, how could he not be in serious danger?"
Li Manli didn't listen, just pushing into the ward.
She suddenly froze upon seeing Su Wanyu sitting by the bed, carefully wiping the sweat from Lu Liang's forehead.
Their eyes met, and seeing Su Wanyu's puzzled expression, Li Manli suddenly understood.
A trace of desolation flashed in her eyes as she quickly bowed in apology, "Sorry, I walked into the wrong room."
She knew she wasn't Lu Liang's only one, but she never expected to encounter a romantic rival in this way.
Li Manli remembered the font on the lighter and a Nine-Eyed Sky Bead that had appeared out of nowhere.
With a girl's sixth sense, she felt these items were all gifts from the cool-tempered girl before her.
She knew Lu Liang treasured them, and she knew about her and her, thus she also knew where she stood in Lu Liang's heart, which was weightier.
"No problem," Su Wanyu, with her delicate brows slightly furrowed and her big eyes filled with confusion, watched Li Manli turn and hurry away.
Wen Chao tried to smooth things over, "Miss Su, I just accidentally dozed off, please don't tell Mr. Lu, please?"
"It's getting late, why don't you go back and rest? I can handle things here," Su Wanyu struggled to keep her smile.
"No problem, I'll just wait outside. If anything happens, just call me," Wen Chao said with a smile plastered on his face, closing the room door.
Suddenly, Su Wanyu said, "Secretary Wen, could you please look after Lu Liang for a moment? I'm going to the restroom."
Although she didn't want to admit it, she had seen the loneliness flashing through that girl's eyes. It was unmistakable.
She wanted to know why. Could it really have been that Wen Chao dozed off and she walked into the wrong room?
Could such a coincidence happen?
Wen Chao nodded, relieved, thinking he had narrowly escaped the impending chaotic scene.
The next second, his face turned pale.
Obviously, the private ward had its own restroom, yet Su Wanyu had walked out of the ward.
"Mr. Lu, save me~"
Wen Chao's eyes widened, and his heart suddenly turned cold. Looking at Lu Liang with his eyes tightly shut, he sensed big trouble looming.
Wake up quickly~ my Mr. Lu.
Su Wanyu chased out of the ward and after searching around, saw Li Manli wiping her tears in the corridor.
She stopped in her tracks, held her breath, and summoned the courage to offer a tissue: "Do you know Lu Liang by any chance?"
Li Manli was startled, her expression panicked as she hurriedly explained, "Who is Lu Liang? I don't know a Lu Liang."
Su Wanyu looked into her eyes. Her heart felt as though it was being tightly squeezed by an invisible pair of hands. She fell silent for a long time: "I feel like you were here to see him."
"Sis, you must have felt wrong about it."
Li Manli forced a few laughs, her glance evasive, quickly fabricating a story about her dad being in a car accident, just entering the operating room, his fate uncertain.
"Thank you for the tissue. I just heard wrong; it's actually the building across," she said as she wiped the corner of her eyes and hurried away.
"You really like him, don't you?"
Su Wanyu shouted toward the staircase, and Li Manli paused briefly before continuing on without looking back.
Su Wanyu remained silent, returning to the ward quietly, sitting in front of the bed without uttering a word.
Her face was deathly pale, revealing a hint of bitterness: "Is it money? But I feel like it's not about money. That girl seemed to really like you a lot. Such an expression can't be faked."
Wen Chao shivered, completely lacking his usual composure.
He suddenly very much wanted to call his girlfriend and ask how to handle this situation.
Staying in the ward didn't feel right, but leaving, he worried that Su Wanyu, out of love turned to hate, might harm Lu Liang.
Who will come to my rescue~~~
Fang Shiyu, you bastard, why haven't you come back yet.
"Lu Liang, actually, I should have guessed earlier, but I always didn't want to believe it or think about it," Su Wanyu murmured.
"Treat her well. She likes you more than I do. She can accept it, but I can't."
Su Wanyu's heart ached so much she could hardly breathe, leaning down to kiss the corner of Lu Liang's mouth, leaving two trails of tears on his face.
She bowed her head and walked out of the ward.
"Su..."
Wen Chao's words reached the edge of his lips but were swallowed back, as he watched Su Wanyu leave helplessly.
Suddenly feeling somewhat relieved, Su Wanyu had left peacefully, and that meant it was no longer his problem.
Having survived the danger.
Half an hour later, Lu Liang woke up.
In the ward, a violent coughing fit erupted.
Wen Chao quickly handed over a cup of warm water, asking with concern, "Mr. Lu, how are you feeling now?"
"It's okay," Lu Liang, his throat so sore he didn't want to speak, instinctively touched his cheek, feeling a bit oily and sticky.
Why was it sticky?
His mind was a mess, and he didn't want to think about it.
Wen Chao's headache returned. Seeing Lu Liang's state, he didn't know whether to speak up now.
Suddenly, the door swung open, and Fang Shiyu returned after finishing his police statement. He asked in confusion, "Where's Yu?"
Lu Liang's eyebrows furrowed: "Yu was here?"
"Miss Su came by, and so did Miss Li."
Wen Chao spilled everything he had witnessed, as if pouring out beans.
Fang Shiyu's eyes widened, and he quickly explained, "I only contacted Yu."
Lu Liang grunted, fell silent without a word, touched the slightly sticky spot on his cheek again, and then closed his eyes.
What do you think?
