Chapter 120: Because I Feel Like You’re Pretty Curious About Bo Jingmo
By the time evening rolled around, Yu Li was getting ready to head out.
But just as she opened the door, she heard Mu Chengsi’s voice behind her. “Wait, are you heading to the school gate?”
She turned her head at that. “Yeah. Why?”
Mu Chengsi zipped up her jacket. “I’ve got something to do outside too. Let’s go together.”
Yu Li paused for a beat, her brows lifting slightly, almost unnoticeably. “Sure.”
The two walked out of the dorm in silence. Along the way, Mu Chengsi kept her head down, eyes on the road, the night hiding any trace of emotion on her face.
Yu Li was the first to break the silence: “Did you have something you wanted to say to me?”
Mu Chengsi blinked, then turned her head and chuckled. “No, I was just thinking about stuff.”
Yu Li nodded. “I see. Actually, I’ve been wanting to ask you something.”
Mu Chengsi looked surprised. “Ask me?”“Yeah.” Yu Li had her hands in her pockets, a small smile playing on her lips. “Because I feel like you’re pretty curious about Bo Jingmo.”
Hearing the phrasing, Mu Chengsi raised an eyebrow. “Curious? Are you saying… I’m interested in your boyfriend?”
To her surprise, the girl laughed out loud. “No, I meant curious in a completely emotionless, objective kind of way.”
As soon as she heard that, Mu Chengsi stopped walking.
She narrowed her eyes at the girl’s back and followed silently after a few seconds, her tone joking: “Well, yeah. I mean, he’s the campus heartthrob. Of course I’m curious what someone like that is really like in private—maybe he’s totally different than he seems.”
“.......A contrast?” Yu Li echoed with a soft laugh.
Mu Chengsi waited for her to keep going, but Yu Li just let the topic drop there.
Now she really couldn’t guess what this roommate of hers was thinking.
When they reached the gate, Mu Chengsi’s ride hadn’t arrived yet, but Yu Li’s car had already pulled up. She walked over first and reached for the door.
Just as she was about to get in, the girl suddenly turned her head like she remembered something. “Oh, right.”
Mu Chengsi looked at her, listening carefully.
The lighting at the gate was dim, half-shadowing the girl’s expression in the dark. But her voice sounded like she was smiling.
“Actually, I don’t know Bo Jingmo that well either. We were online dating before, so I just wanted to ask… what kind of person is Bo Jingmo in your eyes?”
Mu Chengsi froze in place, watching Yu Li get into the car and leave.
His own girlfriend didn’t know him well?
Then again, that made sense. Someone like Bo Jingmo, who never showed emotion on the surface… few people could ever guess what he was really thinking.
But… why had Yu Li told her this?
Had she also noticed something strange? Is that why she suddenly came back today?
--
The team-building was held at a large restaurant. After checking in, Yu Li was led by a waiter to a private room.
Inside was a massive round table several meters in diameter. Other than a few who couldn’t make it, there were about twenty or thirty people present.
Yu Li wasn’t exactly early, but she wasn’t late either. Still, most people had arrived before her, and nearly every seat was already taken.
Each area of the room seemed to be grouped by department. Yu Li found the section for hers and sat down, acting as if she didn’t notice the stares from those around her.
The original Yu Li had rarely attended these events, so most people didn’t have a strong impression of her. When they thought of her department, the first name that came to mind was always Zhou Pan.
So when a beautiful woman walked in and sat down, eyes couldn’t help but drift her way.
When they saw which department she sat with, someone quietly leaned over to ask one of the department members: “Hey, is she from your department?”
The member looked just as stunned and shook their head in confusion.
“I think… she’s our… minister?”
The one who always had the least presence.
She looked like this?
The member suddenly started questioning their own memory. They tried to recall her face—but realized they had never actually paid attention to her before. No matter how hard they thought, there was no clear image in their head.
Zhou Pan was also on the guest list tonight. He was seated a few spots to Yu Li’s right. When he saw her, a flicker of surprise and awe crossed his face.
Why did it feel like she’d gotten prettier since he last saw her? But nothing about her face had changed…
Then he remembered what had happened a few days ago, and the awe in his eyes quickly turned into frustration. He’d missed his chance to turn in the file and had to go apologize to the teacher afterward.
Wan Wanwan had arrived early. When she saw Yu Li enter, her expression was also surprised and shocked. Yu Li was in the student council too?! She’d thought it was just someone with the same name.
But then, that image from the other day popped into her mind.
She hesitated for a few seconds, then stood up and made her way around the table to sit beside Yu Li. “Yu Li.”
Yu Li was sending a message to Bo Jingmo at the time. She looked up when someone called her. “Hm?”
When she saw it was Wan Wanwan, her eyes curved into a smile. “Senior, what a coincidence.”
Wan Wanwan: “.......”
Coincidence, my a**. She knew Yu Li was in the student council and didn’t say a word!
Still, now wasn’t the time to quibble over details. She lowered her voice and asked, “What’s your relationship with Bo Jingmo? I saw you two eating together the other day.”
Yu Li raised her brows, copying her tone and responding with a quiet chuckle, “Aren’t you close with the president? Why not just ask him directly?”
Wan Wanwan: “........”
Obviously because I don’t dare, that’s why I’m asking you.
She squinted at the woman in front of her, giving her a full head-to-toe scan.
They’re together? No way. It’s only been a few days—how could they possibly be together already? That’s faster than taking a rocket.
But if they really were together…
Wan Wanwan’s eyes flickered. She pressed her lips together and said, “Well, I’d advise you to keep your distance from Bo Jingmo. He’s not someone you can just flirt with casually.”
“Oh? I see.” Yu Li acted like she suddenly understood, giving her a grateful smile. “Thanks for the advice, Senior. I’ll keep that in mind.”
Seeing her like that, Wan Wanwan looked faintly annoyed and glanced at Yu Li’s outfit. Then she reassured herself—it must all be in her head.
There’s no way Bo Jingmo would fall for Yu Li.
That day had to have been a fluke. Definitely.
She stood up and went back to her seat. Yu Li watched her leave, lightly tapping her phone screen with her fingertip, her expression unreadable as if lost in thought.
Time ticked by and eventually, dinner was served. As the dishes were laid out, Wan Wanwan, being the vice director, stood up and delivered the usual opening:
“Since the president couldn’t make it today, I’ll speak in his place. But he did say he’s covering tonight’s tab, so everyone, eat up! This team-building is a chance for us to get to know each other and work better together in the future.”
As soon as she finished, someone called out: “The president is still so generous! We’ll follow him to the end!”
The mood immediately livened up, with everyone chatting and laughing.
Just then, Zhou Pan came over with a wine glass in hand and stood in front of Yu Li.
“Yu Li, what happened a few days ago was my fault. I was too busy with papers and classes, and didn’t have the energy to keep up with the group chat. I didn’t realize you were also busy during that time, so the task got delayed. Because of that, I got chewed out by the teacher. From now on, let’s work together to run the department properly, yeah?”
Yu Li raised her eyebrows. This speech… why does it sound so passive-aggressive?
She let out a soft laugh and leaned back in her chair, speaking with interest: “I didn’t have time to do it?”
After a pause, she lifted her eyelids and glanced at him lightly. “Are you sure I’m the one who didn’t have time to do it?”
This Zhou Pan…
Still thinks she’s the same Yu Li from before?
What do you think?
