—
A slow, swaying sensation made it feel like floating on the ocean—rising and falling with the waves.
Suddenly, his head bumped against something cold and hard. The chill snapped Hou Liang awake, and he abruptly opened his eyes.
In front of him were the familiar seats of a classic tour bus. He stared in confusion for a moment before feeling the cool metal sensation beneath his hand.
Looking down, he found a pitch-black camera pointed straight at him.Its glossy lens reflected his stunned, disoriented expression.
“You’re awake?”
A familiar female voice came from beside him.
Still in a daze, Hou Liang turned his head and saw Jiang Xi’s familiar face. Instantly, his gaze changed.
Sitting up slightly, he scanned his surroundings and realized that everyone else was also asleep—except for one man at the very front.
The man had a refined appearance, wearing glasses, and was meticulously wiping the lens of his camera. Sensing Hou Liang’s gaze, he turned his head and greeted him with a brief smile before resuming his task.
Before Hou Liang could react, Jiang Xi nudged him lightly and whispered, “That’s a player.”
Hou Liang frowned. “We’re in again?”
How was it so soon?
There was usually a break between films, a few days at least. But it had only been one day, and they were already back.
And—
“Your face looks…” Exactly the same as in reality.
Hou Liang trailed off mid-sentence.
No, not exactly the same.
Jiang Xi appeared more mature—like she had been out of college for a few years.
She had clearly woken up earlier than him. At his remark, she simply nodded and pursed her lips. “Maybe the system is starting to assess our capabilities. This is a formal film now—the difficulty level is different, and some mechanics aren’t the same as the beginner world.”
Unlike the beginner-level films, formal films had no replays and no guides based on past completions, making them significantly harder.
She frowned slightly. “I still don’t fully understand the rules yet. This was too sudden—I wasn’t prepared.”
Hou Liang had still been processing the situation, but when he saw his childhood friend looking troubled, he reached out and held her hand. His voice was warm and reassuring.
“It’s fine. Whatever happens, I’m still here, aren’t I?”
Despite his usual carefree personality, he always knew how to comfort her at crucial moments.
Jiang Xi was momentarily stunned, but her gloominess quickly faded. She gave a small nod and a faint smile. “Alright.”
But they still needed to figure out the people on this bus.
Before Hou Liang had woken up, Jiang Xi had already sorted out most of the plot and character settings.
She gestured toward the man at the front wiping his camera. “He’s a player. The one sitting next to him is also a player.”
Then, lowering her voice further, she pointed toward the back of the bus. “There are a few more behind us—NPCs. Since the scenario hasn’t started yet, they’re all still asleep.”
Hou Liang leaned on his seat and carefully peeked forward. Sure enough, there was another man next to the first one, though his face was obscured as he leaned back with his eyes closed.
He withdrew his gaze thoughtfully and glanced behind them.
Just as Jiang Xi had said, a man and a woman were sitting behind them, both with their eyes shut.
The girl, sitting directly behind them, had even pulled her cap down over her face, seemingly trying to block out the sunlight.
Hou Liang didn’t pay her much attention. After a quick glance, he quietly sat back down.
But the moment he did—
The girl behind them shifted slightly, raising a slender arm to remove her cap.
Her fair skin, illuminated by the sunlight, had a soft, almost porcelain-like glow. The tips of her fingers shimmered with a faint pinkish hue.
With her cap removed, she shifted her position. Chestnut-brown hair cascaded over her shoulder, and a pair of dark, beautiful fox-like eyes blinked drowsily.
She let out a silent yawn, half-lowering her gaze as she propped her head on her hand, staring lazily at the seat in front of her.
She overheard Hou Liang’s hushed question.
“You don’t see Bo Jingmo? He didn’t come?”
Jiang Xi’s voice was just as quiet. Yu Li could only make out fragments of her response.
“…probably… ghost… later…”
Yu Li lazily retracted her gaze.
Wow, the male and female leads sure had guts—discussing something like this so openly?
Then again…
She had no right to judge, considering what she was about to do.
Without hesitation, she summoned her system.
“Go steal the plot details for me.”
By now, the system was entirely unfazed by such requests.
Since they had left the beginner-level scenarios, this time, the available information was significantly more detailed—even including background data on her original character.
So, as Jiang Xi and Hou Liang discussed their theories, Yu Li lounged against her seat, casually reviewing the system’s provided character profiles and plot connections.
Just as she finished reading, the system’s voice echoed in her mind.
【Sister, the scenario is officially starting. Cameras are on—remember to stay in character.】
Yu Li acknowledged lazily in her head.
The moment the system finished speaking, the bespectacled man at the front suddenly stood up and clapped his hands.
“Clap! Clap! Clap!”
The sharp sound instantly startled the sleeping passengers awake. Dazed and confused, they all turned to look at him.
“…What? Are we there?”
The man adjusted his glasses and smiled.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we’re almost at our destination. Make sure your equipment is ready! You all know why we’re here. If we pull this off—our futures are set for life!”
A few seats away from Yu Li, a hesitant male voice spoke up.
“Cen Xiu… Do we really have to stay there until midnight? That rumor…”
“Ke Yulong, aren’t you supposed to be a staunch materialist? Now you’re backing out?” Cen Xiu looked at him like a disappointed teacher, slinging an arm over his shoulder. He then gestured toward a few people, including Yu Li.
“These guys used to study at Holy Wings High School. Look at them—they’re perfectly fine. If they’re not scared, why should you be?”
Yu Li raised an eyebrow slightly but said nothing.
This Cen Xiu… was a veteran player.
He had stolen the main character’s role, introducing the group instead of Jiang Xi or Hou Liang.
And the actual protagonists?
Yu Li glanced at them.
Still dazed.
She silently looked away.
…Forget it.
The player sitting next to Cen Xiu was also clearly experienced, joining in smoothly with the conversation. Within a few sentences, they had established everyone's roles and relationships.
Cen Xiu was the organizer of the filming project.
The other player was named Yu Haoye—Cen Xiu’s college roommate.
And Yu Haoye, Hou Liang, and Jiang Xi had all been former students at Holy Wings High School.
Cen Xiu was a well-known online paranormal content creator. He had been fascinated by the rumors surrounding Holy Wings High School for a long time and had proposed filming a documentary-style horror movie to uncover its secrets.
After discussing it with Yu Haoye, they roped in Hou Liang and his girlfriend to join the project. Ke Yulong, who had filming experience, was lured in by Cen Xiu with promises of big money.
As for Yu Li—
Or rather, the original owner of this body, Qing Li.
She had volunteered to join.
But the original Qing Li was utterly useless.
She was delicate, frail, and incapable of any physical labor. Even Jiang Xi was strong enough to help carry equipment, while she… was nothing more than a beautiful vase.
By all logic, Cen Xiu should have rejected her outright. She would only slow them down, yet at the end of it all, she'd still get her name on the filming credits.
Noticing Qing Li’s apparent disinterest, Cen Xiu immediately let go of Ke Yulong and slid into the seat beside her. His gaze was gentle, his movements careful, and his voice held a fawning softness as he asked,
“Qing Li, are you tired from the ride? There’s water up front—I can get it for you?”
Yu Li gave him a sidelong glance and waved her hand dismissively. She leaned back lazily against the seat, her exquisite features carrying an air of aloof elegance, exuding the same unbothered confidence as always.
“No need to worry about me. I’m just curious about your filming. Just here to watch.”
But who could blame Cen Xiu?
He was chasing after Qing Li.
A campus beauty who had never even spared him a glance before suddenly took an interest in his project? The man was instantly over the moon, completely forgetting any reasons to refuse.
Qing Li had claimed that, as a former student of Holy Wings High School, she might be able to help them. She also expressed a strong personal interest in the school's history.
As for whether that was true or not…
Yu Li rested her head on her hand, a smirk tugging at her lips as she idly toyed with her fingertips.
Her fox-like eyes gleamed with amusement.
Bo Jingmo wasn’t as easy to fool this time.
It seemed she would have to change tactics to lure her little boyfriend in.
What do you think?
