Chapter 218
Qiao Chuchu sat in the helicopter, gazing at the scenery outside Lan City. She wanted to take out her phone to capture the view, only to realize she didn’t have one with her.
A unlocked phone was handed to her.
Weisheng Lin’s phone swayed slightly in his hand. “Use mine. I’ll send the photos to you on WeChat later.”
Qiao Chuchu gratefully accepted it. “Thank you!”
She took a photo of Lan City’s nightscape. “I’ve never been in a helicopter over Lan City before. I didn’t expect it to be this beautiful.”
Hesitating, she asked, “Can I take a selfie? You can send it to me and then delete it afterward?”
Weisheng Lin agreed with a smile, leaning closer to her. “Mind if I join?”
“Of course not!” Qiao Chuchu raised the phone toward the window, grinning widely.
Weisheng Lin rested his hand on the back of her seat, raising an eyebrow at the camera.
A photo was captured.
She checked it and, satisfied, said happily, “We both look great in this! It’s good enough to post on social media!”
She handed the phone back to Weisheng Lin. “You always take helicopters. Do you get to enjoy the scenery often?”
Weisheng Lin took the phone and, without hesitation, set the photo they had just taken as his wallpaper. “I never look at the scenery.”
Qiao Chuchu was curious. “So, you take helicopters because they’re convenient and fast?”
Weisheng Lin glanced up at her from behind the phone. “No, I like taking helicopters because I’m vain. Not everyone can get access to helicopters in Lan City.”
Qiao Chuchu: “?”
[So blunt?]
Weisheng Lin put his phone away, smiling as he looked at her. “Any problem with that?”
She wasn’t sure how to respond. “I thought you’d say something more polite.”
Weisheng Lin burst into laughter, leaning closer to her. “Miss Qiao, since you’re being honest with me, I’ll be honest with you. I’m a vain person, but I don’t pretend to be something I’m not. I only flaunt what I truly have.”
Qiao Chuchu understood.
[But if the Weisheng family were to pretend, other families wouldn’t even stand a chance.]
Weisheng Lin chuckled, propping his chin on his hand, looking at her playfully. “For the upcoming bodyguard competition, I’ve found someone with a similar height and weight as you to act as a stand-in. They’ll compete to protect the stand-in, and whoever does the best job and gets the stand-in to the destination will become your personal bodyguard.”
Qiao Chuchu was surprised. “That’s how it’s done? I thought it would be a test of strength or something. Will they get hurt?”
Weisheng Lin shrugged. “The weapons are safe, so no one will get injured. What’s harder to predict is whether they’ll resort to underhanded tactics to win. After all, I told them that the top performer will get a monthly salary of 100,000 during the probation period. They’re all fighting tooth and nail to become your bodyguard.”
She was shocked. “100,000 during probation?”
“Yes, your brother set the price.” Weisheng Lin smiled at her. “But I don’t think it’s too high. Protecting a precious gem like you, 100,000 a month is just the standard rate. It’s to ensure they’ll give their all for you.”
“And don’t you think…” Weisheng Lin’s hand reached over the back of her seat, his gentle voice coming through the headset, “that it’s kind of sexy to have a group of people fighting over you, even to the point of drawing blood?”
She was puzzled. “Sexy?”
He leaned closer, like a snake, his voice carrying through the headset but giving the illusion of whispering in her ear. “They fight over you, yet they must protect you. They bare their fangs like wolves, but they also have to show their softest side to you, all while fighting desperately, panting and sweating for you.”
Qiao Chuchu: “…”
She seemed to get it.
But then she pinched her chin, analyzing rationally, “Though, rather than fighting over me, they’re probably fighting over the salary. If it were me, if I didn’t have money, I’d fight just as hard for the sake of the young lady.”
Weisheng Lin’s mouth twitched, the excitement in his eyes dampened. “And you call yourself a manga artist? You don’t get the tension at all.”
Qiao Chuchu: “? What’s that supposed to mean? If you want to talk about manga, I can definitely keep up.”
She spread her hands, like a mischievous witch, her tone growing excited. “In manga, a group of predators fights over the heroine’s love and body. On the surface, they want to conquer her with pride, but deep down, they’ve already submitted, so lowly that they can’t live without her. When they can’t see her, it’s like ants are crawling all over their bodies!”
Whenever she talked about her work, Qiao Chuchu’s eyes sparkled with a strange light. “If that’s the kind of tension you’re talking about, I’m absolutely hooked!”
Weisheng Lin was taken aback, then smiled, looking at her without a word.
Qiao Chuchu snapped out of it, awkwardly scratching her head. “You don’t get it, do you?”
Weisheng Lin raised an eyebrow, narrowing his eyes meaningfully. “No, I think I’ve witnessed exactly what you’re describing.”
Qiao Chuchu: “! Who?! Can I watch? Can you introduce me to them?!”
“Miss Qiao.” Weisheng Lin suddenly called her.
Qiao Chuchu tilted her head. “Huh?”
Weisheng Lin’s dark, ink-like eyes stared at her, as if toying with her in his gaze, and he called her name slowly—
“Miss Qiao.”
He curled his lips into a smile and invited her, “Let’s go test those bodyguards together later. Let them fight to protect you, and I’ll join in too, playing the villain who’s trying to snatch you away~”
What do you think?
