Chapter 224
Qiao Chuchu: "??? Do you think I'm stupid? At first, I thought you were just playing around with me, but now I see it—you're just here for your own amusement! Your tastes are way too bizarre!!!"
Weisheng Lin’s breath hitched. Even after being scolded, he wasn’t angry. Instead, his eyes sparkled with excitement. "I’m not here for amusement," he said, leaning closer to her, his voice softening as if he were about to kiss her cheek. "Really, I’m not."
Qiao Chuchu’s hair stood on end, and she kicked him hard in the shoulder. "Get lost, you freak!!"
Weisheng Lin grunted from the impact. "Oof!"
She bolted away as fast as she could!
[He looks so refined on the outside, but turns out he’s just a masochistic weirdo! Who would’ve thought the Weisheng family could produce a masochist? I thought they were all sadists!]
Weisheng Lin glanced at the footprint on his shoulder and chuckled delightedly. "Miss Qiao, your words hurt me. I’m not a freak. I just enjoy having fun. No one’s ever dared to scold me before—you’re the first outsider besides my family to do so. It’s refreshing."
Qiao Chuchu’s face flushed red as she turned to look at him.
Seeing her panic, Weisheng Lin playfully covered his eyes, as if coaxing her. "Alright, how about this? I won’t look. I’ll count to fifty, and you run. I’ll come find you, okay?"
He drew out his words with a smirk. "One~"
"Two~"
"Three~"
Qiao Chuchu shivered, feeling both hot and cold, her mind foggy and disoriented.
Something was wrong with her.
It was probably because she’d been under so much pressure all day.
After all, she’d saved Pei Youchuan on the ship, outsmarted Xia Xuechun, been kidnapped with Ji Yanchuan, argued with Weisheng Huailing, and now she was caught up in this maze chase with them—all in the same day!
It felt like she’d crammed a year’s worth of events into just a few hours.
She was exhausted…
Qiao Chuchu staggered a few steps, leaning against the wall as she gasped for breath. Her body felt weak and light, as if she were walking on cotton, but her head felt heavy, creating a jarring disconnect.
It was like audio and video out of sync.
Weisheng Lin’s low voice whispered in her ear. "Found you."
Goosebumps erupted all over her body as she turned in terror—
Shen Zhuoyan scooped her up and carried her away!
Weisheng Lin’s face darkened. "Shen Zhuoyan, it’s you again!!"
Shen Zhuoyan ran swiftly, carrying Qiao Chuchu to a corner and removing his mask.
His cold, handsome face was revealed, his disheveled hair doing nothing to diminish his looks.
His gaze was intense and concerned. "Do you like Weisheng Lin? The age gap between you two is huge! Even if he looks young, you can’t be with him!"
Qiao Chuchu looked at him weakly. "What gave you the idea that I like Weisheng Lin?"
"Then what about his brother?" Shen Zhuoyan’s brows furrowed as he gripped her wrist, his tone urgent. "Weisheng Huailing—do you like him?"
Qiao Chuchu: "..."
[And where did he get the idea that I like Weisheng Huailing? I even scolded him earlier. If he hadn’t begged me, I’d have cut ties with him.]
[Besides, who I like is none of his business.]
She was too tired to argue. "Shen Zhuoyan, I don’t want to fight. I’ve been through too much today. I’m exhausted. I just want to sleep."
Her bones ached for some reason, too.
Shen Zhuoyan noticed her state. "Are you feeling unwell?"
She shook her head. "I’m just tired. It’s already 11 PM. I need to sleep."
Qiao Chuchu grabbed his wrist, pleading. "Shen Zhuoyan, stop messing around. I’m the one who hired you. You’re my bodyguard now."
Shen Zhuoyan froze, feeling the heat of her palm. "Your hand is burning."
Qiao Chuchu dismissed it, pushing him away and forcing herself to walk. "It’s probably from running."
Suddenly, Weisheng Lin dropped down in front of her and wrapped her in a hug. "Caught you~"
Qiao Chuchu buried her face in his chest, not resisting.
Weisheng Lin was surprised by her lack of struggle. He cupped her face, delighted. "So obedient now, are you—"
His smile faltered as he felt her skin. "Why is your face so hot?"
Qiao Chuchu looked up at him, dazed. "I’m just warm from running."
"No, this isn’t from running." Weisheng Lin’s expression turned serious as he pressed his forehead to hers. "You’re burning up. Are you running a fever?"
Shen Zhuoyan’s face changed, and he pushed Weisheng Lin aside, pressing his own forehead to hers. "You’re definitely running a fever!"
Weisheng Lin shoved him back and touched her cheek again, his brow furrowed with worry. "You’re really hot."
Qiao Chuchu was completely out of it. She reached up to touch her own forehead.
Looking up at the two of them with watery, confused eyes, she asked, "Am I really sick?"
Both men stared at her, then nodded solemnly.
Suddenly, she felt a wave of grievance. "Then why were you two shoving me around like wild boars?!"
Weisheng Lin and Shen Zhuoyan froze, then immediately apologized, standing on either side of her.
"I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were sick," Weisheng Lin said, crouching down to her level.
Shen Zhuoyan’s brows were tightly knit. "I’m used to being tough and rarely get sick, so I didn’t notice you weren’t well. That’s my fault."
Weisheng Lin added, "I’ve never had to take care of anyone before. People always take care of me. I didn’t even know what a fever felt like until I touched you."
Qiao Chuchu: "...Please, both of you, shut up. Just let me go home."
Shen Zhuoyan: "I’ll take you!"
Weisheng Lin: "I’ll take you."
The two men glared at each other and said in unison, "Don’t let him take her!"
Qiao Chuchu: "?"
She felt her blood pressure spike, and before she could argue, her vision went black, and she fainted.
Both men caught her. "Qiao Chuchu?!"
She didn’t respond, hanging limply in their arms like a soft, floppy bag.
Weisheng Lin and Shen Zhuoyan exchanged worried glances, but before they could say anything, they felt the atmosphere shift.
They looked up.
Pei Yuan and the rest of the Pei family stood before them, their eyes sharp as poisoned daggers.
Pei Buxian’s expression was icy, his aura darker than a ghost’s. "This damn maze took us ten minutes just to find you three."
Pei Yuan strode forward and snatched Qiao Chuchu from their arms, cradling her protectively.
Weisheng Lin stepped back, guilt written all over his face.
Shen Zhuoyan’s eyes remained fixed on Qiao Chuchu, filled with concern.
Pei Yuan was furious. "Mr. Weisheng, didn’t I tell you to have my sister wait for us once you found her? Why were you dragging her around like this?! Do you have any idea how exhausted she is after today?!"
Weisheng Lin stiffened, his confidence crumbling.
He looked like a chastised criminal, lowering his head in sincere apology. "I’m sorry. I didn’t know she was sick. She seemed fine when I found her. I didn’t realize she had a fever."
Pei Yuan’s expression remained stern as he turned to Shen Zhuoyan.
Shen Zhuoyan met his gaze, his resolve firm. "Miss Qiao just confirmed that I’m her bodyguard. Please let me accompany her."
What do you think?
