Chapter 644: Chapter 324: Human Rights Organization, It’s Your Turn to Act!_2
Los Angeles Internal Revenue Service.
“Haha, I wonder how much longer this news conglomerate can hold out!”
“Come on, let’s see if they dare to issue another clarification statement, I want to see how thick the spokesperson’s skin can be!”
“You think, Murdoch being 90 years old and all, he isn’t going to croak from anger over this, right?”
In the director’s office, watching the TV continuously report on the news conglomerate, Buckynison Simmons the trio couldn’t help but joke around with laughter.
They had been rather idle these past few days, but this feeling of scheming and manipulating people behind their backs still gave them quite a thrill.
“Wait… I just thought of something!”
Just as the atmosphere was jovial, Simmons’s exclamation made Nisenbaki and even David turn their heads to look at him.
“This scandal from the news conglomerate has been out for days, and from the evidence that’s been revealed, it seems pretty substantial. With such a violation of human rights, what the hell is the Human Rights Organization doing?”
“Right? When we first arrived at the Western Suburb Branch to catch that bunch of criminals and establish our authority, didn’t the Human Rights Organization come out en masse to protest against us? Now this news conglomerate matter is clearly much bigger, it has even provoked the anger of the entire America, yet they still play dead!”
Reminded by Simmons, Nisen too became indignant.
Just like he said, when they first arrived at the Western Suburbs Branch to arrest a group of criminals and make a statement, the Human Rights Organization protested right at their doorstep, accusing them of contempt.
Now, with the things the news conglomerate had done, wasn’t this an even greater violation of human rights? Yet now they didn’t see these people protesting in front of the news conglomerate’s doors or even making a peep?
Playing the turtle, I see!
“No doubt there are a lot of blockheads in the Human Rights Organization, but don’t take their leadership for fools. They know better than to pick a soft persimmon to squash, or there won’t be a good outcome.”
These words came from David.
He somewhat understood the Human Rights Organization’s silence.@@novelbin@@
After all, to voice-based powers like the Human Rights Organization, Freemasonry could certainly be considered overwhelming. So, it was normal for the upper echelons of these groups to have concerns.
“However, since they chose to bite us at the beginning, they must maintain the same standard. Come on, find me the phone number of their president!”
Given the significant public opinion against the news conglomerate, if they could get the Human Rights Organization, this group of mad dogs, to take another bite, it would be even more effective. David certainly wouldn’t pass up such an opportunity.
The president of the Human Rights Organization was quite a prominent person in America; his personal number was not hard to find, and soon Nisen brought it in.
And David dialed the number as it was.
“I’m Charlotte, who is this?”
Nearly a minute later, the call was picked up, and an impatient voice came through from the other end.
“Is this President Charlotte? This is David from the Los Angeles Internal Revenue Service!”
Meanwhile, at the Washington D.C. headquarters of the Human Rights Organization, President Charlotte paused for a good while after hearing the introduction from the other end of the phone, then spoke in a somewhat calmer tone, “Oh, it’s Director David. May I know the reason you’re contacting me?”
“You must be aware of the news conglomerate matter, President Charlotte. For such a severe violation of human rights, may I ask, doesn’t the Human Rights Organization have anything to say?”
“This…”
Charlotte’s expression turned bitter.
Since the incident had broken out, many of the hotheads in the Human Rights Organization had been itching to step forward, but they had all been forcefully suppressed by her, the president.
As the President of the Human Rights Organization, he somewhat counted as a member of the upper class in America. He was keenly aware of who stood behind the news corporation, as well as its importance to the Jewish people.
Despite facing immense pressure, he ultimately had no choice but to shrink back like a turtle pulling its head into its shell.
“What’s the matter, President Charlotte? You seem somewhat reluctant?”
“That’s not it. We’re already studying a targeted plan for this issue. However, it’s a matter of great significance. The evidence provided by the FBI right now isn’t exactly ironclad, and we can’t just blindly accuse people without clear proof. You understand that, don’t you, Director David?”
“Heh heh…”
David let out a cold laugh, his tone laced with a hint of sarcasm, “That’s true. When I first arrived at the Western Suburb Branch, if it hadn’t been for your organization’s solid evidence, we wouldn’t have seen so many people protesting outside our court.”
Charlotte’s expression changed instantly upon hearing this.
He wasn’t a fool; of course, he could detect the mockery in the other’s tone.
The reason he had not stopped his people from protesting the last time was that although David had some renown back then, he wasn’t as influential as he is now.
However, Freemasonry was a different story; he knew all too well the extent of the power held by this group.
If he dared to make a stand, the outcome would not be good.
And the final outcome of that previous matter left several members of their Human Rights Organization not only arrested and sentenced on the spot but even led to the near disbandment of their organization later on due to David’s threats.
Now he finally came to his senses. The reason David had called him was clearly because he was still not pleased about the past incident.
But thinking about it, that seemed only natural.
From David’s perspective, the news corporation had been obstructing his promotion, and now they were embroiled in such human rights issues. If the Human Rights Organization only targeted him and not the current news corporation, that indeed seemed somewhat unfair!
But, standing in Charlotte’s shoes, he didn’t want to offend David, nor did he want to antagonize the Freemasonry Group. He could only say in a troubled tone, “This puts me in a difficult position, Director David…”
“Difficult? When you sent people to protest against the Internal Revenue Service for human rights violations, you didn’t seem to have any difficulty then?”
Charlotte was left speechless once again, and after a while, he responded gravely, “As I said before, the evidence the FBI has published regarding the news corporation is insufficient. If we step out too rashly, and this turns out to be a false alarm, our organization won’t be able to handle the fallout smoothly.”
The news corporation had been initially steering public opinion against David’s promotion, but then this scandal broke out. Coupled with the current pressing call, Charlotte had basically confirmed that David was behind it.
So if he didn’t give a satisfactory answer today, given David’s current status and capabilities, the fate awaiting him as President might not bode well.
Furthermore, their Human Rights Organization had been laying low for some time, which had already led to criticism from many members within and many citizens outside.
After some thought, he was leaning towards a compromise.
But before compromising, he needed to confirm with David whether the charges against the news corporation could be substantiated. Otherwise, if they couldn’t prove the news corporation’s crimes in the end, his fate would be even worse.
“President Charlotte can rest assured, I’ve got some ‘reliable information’ from a few friends. The charges against the news corporation definitely cannot be washed away!” David, having sensed the other’s intent, provided a reassurance.
“Alright, since Director David you’ve said so much, and our Human Rights Organization indeed has a responsibility to uphold human rights, we naturally cannot stand idly by!”
Charlotte was a smart man. With things having been said to this point and receiving a reassurance, he naturally agreed to the request.
Half an hour after ending the call, Charlotte immediately phoned the New York branch of the Human Rights Organization to make some arrangements.
Then, he convened a press conference right away, officially announcing that their Human Rights Organization would take direct action against the news corporation.
Instantly, the public was in an uproar, and the news corporation was on the brink of complete collapse.
What do you think?
