Chapter 657: Chapter 331: Join the Ansa Group, David

Sean’s expression was changing like the weather for a good while before he finally asked, “If he doesn’t agree, then what do you all plan to do?”

Jeff leaned back, arms crossed over his chest, and said unhurriedly, “I’ve already received news that Freemasonry is preparing to deploy its power in Congress to abolish the Black Tax Law. If David doesn’t agree, we will not get involved!”

“What!”

Hearing this, Sean was truly taken aback.

He was well aware that the Freemasonry Group had never dared to target the Black Tax Law before, simply because they didn’t want to openly break with the Internal Revenue Service.

And now that they were considering it, it meant that they were truly cornered and ready to declare war on the Internal Revenue Service!

...

But that wasn’t the most important part.

The most critical issue was that, although the Internal Revenue Service wielded great power, it had little influence in Congress. The real power brokers in Congress were entities like the Freemasonry, the Ansa Group, and other large business conglomerates and major families.

This meant that if Freemasonry truly began to push for the abolition of the Black Tax Law in Congress, and if the Ansa Group observed from the sidelines, then the Internal Revenue Service was in for a tough battle.

Without the Black Tax Law as their Imperial Sword, even if David were to ascend to a high position within the Internal Revenue Service, it would be tantamount to a tiger without its teeth.

“Of course, we hope it doesn’t come to that, so if David can agree to our demands, that would naturally be the best outcome. Do you understand, Sean?”

“Alright, I’ll communicate with him myself tonight, but I can’t guarantee he will agree.”

Seeing how resolute the Three Major Families were, Sean knew he was powerless to change the course of events and could only prepare to pass the message to David, who would be arriving tonight.

“You just need to convey our message to him. As for whether he agrees and what happens afterward, we will handle it.”

“Very well…”

Evening was approaching, seven o’clock.

A large number of special service agents were already stationed around the Hyatt Hotel, while the invited guests gradually arrived at the venue in their vehicles.

As the star of the evening, David naturally arrived early at the scene, where he was currently entertaining some of the arriving guests.

Among these people were military officials, representatives from various government departments, and some of the local elite from Washington D.C.

David was meeting quite a few of them for the first time, and he was not quite sure whether they were invited by the top echelons of the Internal Revenue Service or by the Ansa Group, so he was a bit unclear.

“Director David… oh no, it should be Chief Inspector David now, we’re very pleased to welcome you to Washington D.C.!”

“Chief Inspector David, I’ve long admired your commanding presence on television. Today, I finally have the pleasure of meeting you in person!”

“Chief Inspector David, I’m looking forward to your guidance in the future…”

As time went by, more and more people arrived at the venue, and many were quick to approach David to offer their congratulations.

David greeted each one of them with a smile, occasionally raising his glass in return, contributing to the congenial atmosphere of the banquet.

“BOSS, Director Obadiah and the others have arrived!”

Hearing Simmons’s reminder, David turned and saw Director Obadiah, Consultant Welton Heng, Deputy Director Donald, Rohan, and a group of senior officials from the Internal Revenue Service walking in.

He immediately excused himself from the conversation with a few government officials and strode towards them, saying, “Director Obadiah, Consultant Welton Heng, Deputy Director Donald… welcome to the event!”

Although the Ansa Group had arranged this evening’s banquet for communication with the Internal Revenue Service’s senior officials, David felt it odd to be welcoming this group of people as if he were the host.

But there was no helping it; in name, he was indeed the protagonist of the day.

“Chief Inspector David, welcome to the head office. We believe that under your leadership, the state of national tax cases will take a significant leap forward!”

Director Obadiah said this with a cheery smile.

Seeing the head of the office saying so, Welton Heng, Rohan, and several others also offered congratulations and welcoming words.

At the end, only the man in his fifties with a goatee, standing next to Rohan, remained silent, his expression somewhat unnatural.

“Ahem…”

It wasn’t until he heard Donald cough that the man came to his senses, forcing a smile and saying to David, “Congratulations, David, I hope you’ll do even better in my stead.”@@novelbin@@

His name was Nehemiah Noah, the former National Chief of Tax Inspection.

At fifty-one, he should have been at an ideal age for his career, but unfortunately, he had the bad luck of encountering the meteoric rise of David.

Eventually, under the pressure of the Angsa people and after discussion with many senior officials at the head office, he reluctantly handed over the position of Chief Inspector, currently most fitting for David.

Of course, apart from these two pressures, another reason was David’s exceptional ability and the soaring reputation he had built up lately; otherwise, Nehemiah wouldn’t have stepped down so easily.

“Chief Inspector Nehemiah, as I’m new here, I’m sure there will be many things I’ll need to seek your advice on in the future. I hope you won’t find it too bothersome.”

Anyone relinquishing such an influential position would feel discomfort, so David didn’t find the other party’s odd behavior to be a problem.

“Even though I’ve stepped down, I still hope to see the tax inspection work improve, so feel free to ask me anything you need to; don’t be polite.”
