Chapter 74: 74 Mission
Chapter 74: Chapter 74 Mission
Lin Feng had been learning from Sun Tiantu for half a year.
During this half year, Lin Feng’s talent in Spirit Arrays had become apparent to everyone, astonishing even Sun Tiantu.
In just a short six months, Lin Feng had gone from a novice who had never touched a Spirit Array to an “Elementary Intermediate Spirit Array Master” who had already mastered twelve Array Maps.
In just half a year, Lin Feng covered the ground that it would take many others ten years to travel.
Of course, besides Lin Feng’s strong talent and comprehension, the rigorous training he put himself through and the guidance of a teacher by his side were also greatly related.
Spirit Array Masters were divided into four ranks: Tian Di Xuan Huang.
Each rank was divided into three levels: “Elementary, Middle, High.”
Even more detailed, there were three sub-levels: “Elementary, Intermediate, High-level.”
Lin Feng was currently at the first rank, the Yellow Rank, at the level of an Elementary Intermediate Spirit Array Master.
For a sixteen-year-old youth, this level was already remarkable.
After teaching Lin Feng for half a year, Sun Tiantu received a letter with urgent matters and had to leave.
“Lin Feng, after I leave, you must remember not to slack off, you must continue to study hard, and practice a hundred times every day to keep improving,” Sun Tiantu admonished.
“Teacher, your disciple understands and will definitely not slack off in the slightest,” Lin Feng said respectfully.
“Good.” Sun Tiantu trusted Lin Feng’s character very much. He nodded, gave Lin Feng one last instruction, and then left Jialan Academy. For the following two months, Lin Feng spent his time on cultivation and studying Spirit Arrays, drawing a hundred Array Maps every day to hone his control over Spirit Arrays. This was an excellent exercise for spiritual power. After each drawing session, Lin Feng felt deeply fatigued, but this hard work also brought great rewards.
In two months, Lin Feng had once again made a breakthrough, reaching the level of a Yellow Rank Elementary High-level Spirit Array Master.
In less than a year, Lin Feng had advanced through three levels, which was utterly astounding. If this news were to spread, it would certainly cause a huge stir.
Because even “Earth Master Gu Tianhe,” who was now revered as a divine figure in the East County Divine Land, took three full years to advance from a Yellow Rank Elementary Spirit Array Master to a Yellow Rank Elementary High-level Spirit Array Master.
At night, after Lin Feng had drawn a hundred Array Maps, he lay down on his bed, exhausted.
“Lin Feng, come out…”
At that moment, a familiar voice entered Lin Feng’s ears.
The technique of Sound Transmission.
“It’s the teacher…” Lin Feng’s face lit up with joy, and he quickly got up and went outside.
A tall, white-robed elder was waiting under a large tree not far away, and as soon as he saw Lin Feng approaching, he quickly swept towards the distance. Lin Feng followed closely, and the two arrived at the mountains behind the academy.
“Teacher, you’re back!”
Upon seeing Sun Tiantu, a look of joy appeared on Lin Feng’s face. He felt nothing but gratitude towards Sun Tiantu. It was Sun Tiantu who had taken him into the hall of Spirit Array Masters and had taught him with care. Now, being able to become a Spirit Array Master, it was all thanks to Sun Tiantu; such a kindness was always remembered. Lin Feng regarded Sun Tiantu as his most respected teacher and elder.
“Feng’er, I can only stay for a short while and will have to leave soon. I’ve come back this time because there is an important task that I need you to do,” Sun Tiantu said.
“Your disciple will go through fire and water without any hesitation,” Lin Feng said.
“It’s not that serious, it’s a letter. You must deliver this letter to Long Tianyu, the City Lord of Dragon Sun City three thousand miles away.”
Sun Tiantu took out a letter and handed it to Lin Feng, saying earnestly, “You must deliver it within three days, and you must set off now.”
“Yes, Disciple will certainly accomplish it,” Lin Feng said, storing the letter away.
“Good. Your teacher cannot stay long. I must leave. Feng’er, the journey ahead is long and you must be cautious,” Sun Tiantu said before leaving.
Lin Feng lifted his eyelids and immediately replied, “Thank you for your concern, teacher. I will keep that in mind.”
Whoosh.
The next moment, Sun Tiantu shot up into the air, turning into a streak of light, and disappeared without a trace.
Lin Feng returned to his residence, informed Zhang Qichu that he would be away for a while, then set off for Dragon Sun City.
Dragon Sun City is one of True Martial Country’s ten great main cities.
The city lord of Dragon Sun City, Long Tianyu, is said to be a distinguished relative of the imperial family, even an uncle to the current emperor, wielding high status and power.
Lin Feng didn’t know what the letter contained, and naturally, he wouldn’t open his teacher’s letter to peek. Lin Feng purchased a batch of fierce horses, mounted one, and rode out of the city through the night towards Dragon Sun City. The steeds he chose were a crossbreed between Treasure Blood horses and demon beasts, capable of covering fifteen hundred miles in a day and continuously galloping for three days without rest. They were not only fast but also remarkably enduring, making the task of delivering the letter to Dragon Sun City within three days not so difficult.
For two consecutive days, except for the time spent eating and drinking water, Lin Feng was racing along the road nonstop. In the afternoon of the third day, he arrived at the notorious Ghostly Despair, a narrow and long valley with steep terrain and perilous at every turn. This place was infamous for bandits and robbers, though they had been largely cleared out in recent years. Lin Feng rode his fierce horse swiftly through the inside of Ghostly Despair.
Suddenly, Lin Feng sensed a dangerous presence.
He looked up and saw a massive boulder, hundreds of meters high, crashing down from above. Lin Feng’s face changed slightly as he quickly leaped to a far-off spot, dodging the falling boulder, but his steed was not so lucky and was directly smashed into pulp.
“Young man, quite agile,” a cold voice sneered.
From within the gorges ahead, more than a dozen cultivators leaped out, blocking Lin Feng’s path, and atop the cliffs, another dozen people came down along the ropes, trapping Lin Feng in the valley.
Lin Feng asked, “Who are you?”
“We are the infamous robbers of Ghostly Despair,” a leader among the cultivators said coldly.
“You’re not,” Lin Feng shook his head. “Robbers endure wind and sun; how can they look as fair as you all? You appear more like the expert retainers of a large family.”
A cold murderous intent flashed in the eyes of the leading cultivator, who said with a sneer, “You have a keen eye, boy.”
Lin Feng sighed, “I should have guessed. This was all a trap.”
He took out the letter.
“You…” the leading cultivator’s expression shifted slightly.
He spoke gravely, “How did you discover it?”
“I have been studying with my teacher for more than half a year. Teacher is very strict and always calls me by my name, never affectionately as ‘Feng’er.’ That fake teacher, he imitated very closely, I could barely find a flaw, but instinct told me he was a fake, so I went along with the ruse,” Lin Feng said blandly.
The complexions of the cultivators changed, none of them had expected Lin Feng to be so astutely cunning. If this young man were allowed to grow unchecked, he would inevitably become a terrifying entity.
The leading cultivator sneered, “How foolish. If you had doubts, you shouldn’t have come. Since you came, there is only one path left – death.”
He waved his hand, and more than thirty cultivators surrounded Lin Feng, all with a murderous intent in their eyes.
What do you think?
