Chapter 120: 120 Strange Assault Boat
Chapter 120: Chapter 120 Strange Assault Boat
3201.
Jiang Yan lay on the imperial concubine chair, watching two entire animated movies in succession, before finally removing her headphones.
Her room had excellent soundproofing, but to be safe, she still put on her headphones whenever she watched movies or listened to music inside.
Of course, doing so also made the immersive experience even better.
Glancing at the time, it was already ten o’clock at night.
Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, it was as dark as ink.
The torrential rain continued to pour down relentlessly, as if intent on completely submerging the world.
She put down her tablet, closed her eyes and massaged her temples, then stood to add some firewood to the fireplace before heading straight to bed.
Feeling inexplicably tired after tending to the fire all evening, she was on the brink of falling asleep.
Without even bothering to wash up, she turned off the lights and went to bed.
“Swipe, swipe, swipe!”
“Swipe, swipe, swipe!”
The sound of rain outside the window now served as a perfect lullaby.
“Thump!”
“Thump!”
In a state between dreaming and waking, Jiang Yan vaguely heard the sound of heavy objects falling into the water next door.
Her eyebrows furrowed subconsciously.
She immediately thought that the adjacent room, 3202, was supposed to be vacant, and her windows were soundproof, so she probably imagined it and didn’t get up to check.
Turning over, she curled up and began to drift into deep sleep.
*
The next day, a little before eight, Jiang Yan awoke.
Outside the window, dawn was just breaking through.
The storm was still raging, adding a sense of oppressive gloom to the mood.
The official boats never came, and it seemed they never would.
She got out of bed and, as usual, went to the master bedroom.
She drew back the blackout curtains and took a look through her telescope.
Overnight, the water level had risen to the edge of the nineteenth floor.
The hallways and rooms in the opposite building were bustling, signaling the start of another day of moving and arguing.
She suddenly had a bad premonition; it was very possible that in this lifetime, the torrential rain wouldn’t stop once it reached the twentieth floor.
If that were the case, Tower A with its thirty-two floors would likely become the last refuge for everyone.
But it would probably also turn into a living hell.
Like a coveted battleground, a fierce fight was inevitable.
After all, there were still a thousand or so residents from the remaining four buildings in Shallow Bay.
Not to mention that Ma Longbiao’s gang, lurking in the shadows, was ready to stir trouble.
On the water surface of the central garden, one could vaguely see about a dozen fresh corpses, likely those who had perished in yesterday’s fight.
But the presence of these bodies indicated that the situation hadn’t quite reached a critical level of severity.
If it had, these fresh corpses would have been hauled away long before now.
Additionally, the temperature hadn’t continued to drop.
It was uncertain whether that was good news or not.
Jiang Yan scanned briefly, about to set down her telescope, when she saw a motorboat with red and yellow stripes creating white waves as it sped away from Tower A amid the rainstorm.
The boat was covered with a colorful tarp, its cargo unknown.
Three young men in transparent raincoats were aboard.
The one steering kept looking around while steering the boat.
The other two sat at the bow and stern, each holding a fire axe, appearing to be on guard.
However, their watchful gaze was not sweeping side to side as usual, but fixed intently on the colorful tarp in the middle of the boat.
One of the men opened his mouth, as if muttering something quietly.
Jiang Yan’s eyes narrowed.
If these three and their motorboat belonged to Ma Longbiao’s group, then she had clearly underestimated their strength.
Come to think of it, despite the passing days, she had only heard of this group and never encountered them in person.
It shrouded them in mystery.
From her previous run-in with the Scarred Man and others, she felt their quality and moral threshold were noticeably lower than that of Liu Dahong’s group.
Yet now, observing the ready posture of the three men on the boat, she sensed that Ma Longbiao’s group was significantly more trained than Liu Dahong’s.
This was not a good sign.
Another curiosity was what exactly the motorboat was carrying.
Logically, if it were supplies, they’d only be brought inward.
If it were trash or something else, in these times, they’d simply be tossed into the water.
It was hard to imagine what cargo would require them to go out in the rain and guard so vigilantly.
With these questions lingering, the motorboat soon left the community and disappeared into the far-off white mist of the rain.
Jiang Yan also withdrew her thoughts.
With the unrelenting downpour outside, she had no reason to go out, so she decided to stay at home for a while.
Due to her search for Gold and her period, her usual training routines had been disrupted these past few days.
Feeling better today, she decided to practice firearms thoroughly.
She was now proficient with the use of various handguns from her recent purchases, learning quickly enough to hit precisely where she aimed.
She had even mastered disassembling and reassembling the guns.
The focal point now was getting a handle on larger firearms, like machine guns and submachine guns.
These larger firearms had fierce firepower but strong recoil.
If not controlled properly, a single flinch of the hand or shoulder could send bullets astray.
Some time and careful practice were required to adapt.
With that in mind, Jiang Yan entered Space.
Over the creek, the progress bar remained unchanged at 89%.
There was no sign of Hua Bao.
She sent out her senses – it was still asleep, given the earliness of the hour.
Without disturbing it, Jiang Yan went straight to the bathroom.
After washing up and drying her hair, she decided to cook herself a steaming bowl of rice noodles for breakfast – she had been craving it for quite some time.
She fetched the rice noodles, fresh minced meat, bean sprouts, Chinese chives, pea tips, and pickled water vegetables.
She prepared the bean sprouts, chives, and pea tips, washing them and setting them aside.
Then, taking a copper pot the size of a serving bowl, she placed it on the heat, adding half a pot of water to simmer.
Once the water boiled, she added the rice noodles.
Next, she added a few drops of walnut oil, salt, chicken essence, doubanjiang, a couple of tablespoons of minced meat, two spoonfuls of seafood soy sauce, and a little pickled water vegetable, continuing to cook.
After the water came to a boil a second time, she added the bean sprouts, pea tips, and chives in succession.
As the pea tips changed color, she simmered everything for a minute or two more.
A bowl of fresh, flavorful, and smooth rice noodles was now ready.
Jiang Yan enjoyed the meal thoroughly, then went to feed the fish and shrimp at the poolside, toured the vegetable patch and garden, and afterward went upstairs to practice with the firearms.
The days passed leisurely and swiftly.
During these days, Jiang Yan spent most of her daytime in Space studying and practicing, returning to the safety house only near ten or eleven at night to sleep.
She also took the opportunity to plant a bunch of idle fruit seedlings and used all the collected nursery fences on the black soil.
She divided the entire expanse of black soil into sections for vegetables, a fruit orchard, and a flower garden using fences of different colors.
Everything was orderly at a glance.
The once dark soil gradually became covered with colorful flowers and produce.
Looking around in Space, one found a vista brimming with vitality.
What do you think?
