Apocalypse: After Being Reborn, I Stocked Up on All Supplies

Chapter 134: 134 Not That Dirty

Chapter 134: Chapter 134 Not That Dirty

In the past, the property owners downstairs were always sent out in batches, braving the torrential rain and cold to search for supplies and catch fish and Mutated Leeches.

But today, Ma Longbiao’s gang had taken all the rubber boats and life preservers.

A rare day off.

“Ladies and gentlemen, what’s going on here?” Seeing the crowd blocking the door, Sun Jingtao asked in a gentle tone.

Among the owners looking up at them downstairs, some were old residents of Building A, with whom he was somewhat familiar.

Before the apocalypse, they used to see each other quite often.

...

“Sun Jingtao, did you kill Brother Ma’s men?!” A middle-aged man wearing black-rimmed glasses asked incredulously among the crowd.

Brother Ma?

Hearing his words, Jiang Yan’s cold eyes flickered as she glanced at him.

Like everyone else, the man was dirty, his hair and face a mess.

The big brand glasses on his face seemed to have broken frames, wrapped with fine thread and transparent tape.

“Brother Zhang, what’s happening?” Sun Jingtao asked back, his probing expression swept over the crowd.

Something was clearly amiss.

Logically, if they had killed the bad guys, the crowd shouldn’t be behaving or looking like this.

“Uncle Zhang, yes, they were killed! I just saw those bodies myself. It was that woman from the 32nd floor, Jiang something!” A younger man pointed at Jiang Yan, then hid behind the tall man in front of him.

Jiang Yan’s gun today had a silencer attached.

Though it wasn’t completely silent, at least people outside couldn’t hear the gunshots.

As the young man finished speaking, the crowd downstairs burst into an uproar.

Everyone’s eyes “swooshed” towards Jiang Yan, but the moment they met her icy gaze, they shrank back fearfully.

In the subconscious minds of the crowd, Jiang Yan, who killed without blinking, was no different from the cruel and inhuman Ma Longbiao.

“We don’t know the others—-Sun Jingtao, we’ve been neighbors for so many years, we only know you! So, for today’s matter, we can only come to you! You have to give us an explanation!” It was unclear where the courage came from, but the man with black-rimmed glasses continued loudly.

“Yes, we need an explanation!” Others echoed his sentiment, their gazes firmly fixed on Sun Jingtao’s face.

“What kind of explanation?” Sun Jingtao and Su Dai exchanged puzzled looks.

They clearly had killed the wrongdoers, yet they were being questioned as if they had made a mistake.

Had these people gone mad?

Sun Jingtao was actually getting angry, but Su Dai tugged at his sleeve and he clenched his fists, holding back for the moment.

“If you killed Brother Ma’s people, what will we do when he comes back to settle accounts with us?!”

“Yeah, my son is still in their hands. If anything happens to him, I won’t want to live, hey!!”

“Yes, as long as we obediently followed orders and worked hard, they were supposed to return our sons and daughters to us. Now it’s all gone to waste!!!”

“…”

The crowd murmured in discontent.

“Alright, quiet down, everyone! Listen to me!” Glasses Zhang waved his hands to quiet the crowd, then said:

“Sun Jingtao, do you realize what serious trouble you’ve caused?! How dare you lay hands on Ma Longbiao’s men? Do you have any idea what means they have?!

Do you know how many people have died in our building lately?!

Now that you’ve killed his subordinates, when they come back, they will blame us first! You should realize, our wives and children are still in their hands!!!”

After Glasses Zhang finished, he hammered his chest and stamped his feet, then angrily pointed at Jiang Yan and others:

“So if my son doesn’t come back, I will make you pay with your life!!!!”

Another person angrily said, “Yeah, if my daughter and son don’t come back either! I’ll also make you pay with your life!”

“And my wife too!” Another man with greasy braided hair and a scruffy beard waved his fist as he spoke.

Despite their anger, no one dared to take a step forward.

Jiang Yan listened silently and observed.

Dao Yinping, who stood next to them without any means of retaliation, was not accused by any of the residents.

Her silence and stillness were actually to see the true intentions of the owners controlled by Ma Longbiao downstairs.

Now, having heard and seen everything, she had made up her mind.

“Brother Liu, isn’t your wife right here? Why don’t you help her back?” Su Dai seemed to have understood the reason for the hostility towards them, and she recognized the greasy braided man at this moment.

She pointed at a woman they had just helped down from the table and addressed him.

That woman, too, was from Building A.

Su Dai had seen her a few times before.

She was a teacher at a dance school next to the Shallow Bay District.

The man called Brother Liu, with braids, was a painter.

He had a private studio at home.

Both had an artistic vibe, handsome and pretty, and dressed very fashionably.

Before the apocalypse, they were seen as a couple made in heaven in the eyes of the residents.

At this moment, the woman squatted shakily in front of the emergency exit, her head buried low.

The people downstairs had clearly seen her when Su Dai and the others helped her out.

Yet no one dared to come forward.

Everyone knew that she was a woman desired by Ma Longbiao and his gang.

The happenings in the hallway were not unknown to them.

But most chose to turn a blind eye and feign ignorance.

“How can she possibly be my wife?! My wife wouldn’t be this dirty!!!”

Brother Liu glanced at the woman, a flash of contempt in his eyes, and sneered coldly.

The woman on the ground listened to his double-meaning words and clenched her teeth.

The head she had been holding low slowly lifted.

She supported herself with her hands on her thighs and gradually, painstakingly stood up.

The woman swayed, her dim and weak eyes swept over the crowd, and with a touch of hatred in her swollen eyes, she looked at the man with braids and ground out through clenched teeth:

“Liu Xing, how can you say I’m dirty now? Wasn’t it you who knocked me out and handed me over to that beast, Dao Yinping?!”

With that statement, the crowd burst into another uproar.

“For your own safety and a little bit of food…you sent your own wife to be played with by another man…and now, here you are, adamantly spouting nonsense. Liu Xing, the biggest mistake of my life was marrying you when I was blind!”

“Zhao Xiaolei, do you think you’re so pure and pristine?! Do you even remember how many men you were with before you married me?!”

“Damn it, Liu Xing, Zhao Xiaolei, if you want to air your dirty laundry, take it home and argue, don’t waste everyone’s time here!” Another man jumped in to stop their quarrel, then pointed at Sun Jingtao and cursed furiously:

“Also, Sun Jingtao! You’ve killed all of Brother Ma’s men—do you understand the consequences?

If our daughters and sons who were taken away by them end up dead because of this, can you bear that consequence?!”
