Chapter 144: Chapter 144 Good News!
“Boss!” Dao Yinping gritted his teeth and raised his voice a few notches, fawningly said.
“That fucking Dao Yinping! You got guts, dare to not answer my calls for half a day?!” Ma Longbiao’s grating voice came through the walkie-talkie, intermittently.
Jiang Yan frowned and listened closely; the background noise on the other side was very clean, with the faint sound of rain.
It seemed that the other party was inside a building, near a window.
“I’m sorry, boss, I was just taking care of some business, hehe, you know,” Dao Yinping continued in a conciliatory tone, swallowing his anger.
Ma Longbiao on the other end, of course, unleashed a tirade of cursing and scolding.
Su Dai and the others exchanged glances:
Is Dao Yinping really the gang’s second-in-command?
Why does it feel like his treatment is even worse than a lowly lackey?
“Those turtle sons of bitches on the 32nd floor haven’t been out in the past few days, huh?!” Ma Longbiao burped, as if picking his teeth.
Dao Yinping glanced embarrassingly at Jiang Yan and the others, “They haven’t left, just hunkering down at home!”
Sun Jingtao suddenly got up and tiptoed quickly into the master bedroom.
He soon returned with an A5-sized hardcover notebook and a marker in hand, which also had a line written on it:
[Ask him where he is? When will he be back?]
Dao Yinping’s face contorted into a wry smile for a few seconds, then after beating around the bush, he finally changed the subject: “Boss, where are you? Are you coming back?”
“The hell do you care about my whereabouts?!”
“Not to pry, just concerned about you, boss…”
“Never mind, I’m not afraid to tell you, I’m not coming back for a while! You better keep a tight watch over Shallow Bay! If anything goes wrong, I’ll hold you accountable!”
Not coming back for a while?
Jiang Yan and the others furrowed their brows.
This was both good news and bad news.
After all, it’s much simpler to wait for the prey than to take the initiative to attack.
Ma Longbiao seemed full of confidence over the walkie-talkie, with an arrogant tone as if he had just found some significant backing.
After another round of vicious cursing, the other party “snap” turned off the walkie-talkie.
The room fell into silence.
“Ow—”
Before Dao Yinping could even squeak, he was knocked out by a karate chop from Ye Qing.
Su Dai tugged at Sun Jingtao worriedly, “Honey, that Ma Heizi is not coming back for a while, what should we do?”
“Since he’s not coming back, then we’ll take the fight to him! These pests won’t give us peace until they’re dealt with!” After saying this, Sun Jingtao glanced at Jiang Yan and Ye Qing.
Ye Qing nodded, “Yes, sooner rather than later. I suspect they may have gained something after meeting with Young Master Xue.
It’s also possible that the ongoing torrential rain is about to flood their safe house, so they might be transferring their supplies, women, and children to that base.”
“But the problem is, it’s all a flooded wasteland outside, and the tempest could lead us astray. Where shall we launch our attack from?” Su Dai glanced out the floor-to-ceiling window and pouted.
“Just a moment, I’ll recharge the phone and see if the offline navigation is usable,” Sun Jingtao said, taking a hand-crank charger that belonged to Jiang Yan from the table and checking it.
The battery indicator only showed one small green light; it must not have much charge.
Fully charging it with hand-cranking would take some time.
However, the charge indicated by the small green light was enough to power up the phone for a while.
“Offline navigation? Isn’t there no network now? Wouldn’t the navigation have expired by now?” Su Dai stole a glance at her husband.
“There’s no network because the ground stations are having issues, but offline navigation only needs a satellite signal unless we’re really unlucky and lose satellite signals too.”
As Sun Jingtao spoke, he had already started charging the phone he found.
Watching the red lightning battery sign on the phone’s screen turn green, Su Dai and Ye Qing became somewhat excited.
After all, the phone had been dead for a long time.
Jiang Yan actually knew that the satellite signal was indeed gone.
Otherwise, they wouldn’t have had to painstakingly draw coordinates and resort to using a theodolite and a compass earlier when they were searching for the jewelry.
But she couldn’t say anything.
The more she revealed, the more likely she would expose herself.
Finally, the phone’s battery sign turned green, and Sun Jingtao eagerly powered it on.
“How is it?” Three heads came together.
Seeing the blank screen on the map app, their eyes widened in disbelief.
“Loading effort… it’s useless, the satellite signal is gone too,” Su Dai sighed.
Their spirits sank, as if a small spark of hope had just been extinguished by the rain.
Jiang Yan, silently observing, pondered for a second and then spoke:
“Without navigation, finding their hideout is indeed challenging. However, it’s not entirely impossible.”
Since the walkie-talkie could connect, then the general area could be determined.
Moreover, Ma Longbiao’s group naturally stored supplies above the water level.
The water had already risen to the 22nd floor.
They needed to store supplies, detain people, and reserve living space for themselves.
That meant, they would be residing on at least the 25th floor or higher.
Thirdly, since their safe house was prepared in advance, it couldn’t possibly be in an old residential area or one already inhabited by owners.
It was very likely to be in a new building or office block that was ready for handover but hadn’t been delivered yet.
Houses like that were fully equipped and, with the recent heat, wouldn’t draw much attention.
Looking at it this way, the search range was significantly narrowed down.
As for locating, she was able to scour all the jewelry stores under several meters of water, let alone finding something on the surface.
It would just take some more time to draw the coordinates.
With Hua Bao serving as their “invisible navigation” and live map, reaching the destination would be easy.
“What method?” Su Dai asked, puzzled.
In her view, without navigation or a map, and in the pouring rain with only two rubber boats, even reaching the shopping center near the residential area would be a challenge.
Sun Jingtao and Ye Qing frowned and thought for a moment, vaguely guessing some methods, but still wanted to hear what Jiang Yan had to say.
Naturally, Jiang Yan shared her analysis.
Her ideas coincided with those of Sun Jingtao and Ye Qing, only more detailed.
“I remember Tian Jiliang worked for a listed property company before. Since he’s in investment, he should be very familiar with these properties. I’ll go downstairs now and ask him,” Sun Jingtao volunteered and went downstairs.
Within two minutes, he came back, his face beaming with excitement:
“Great news! There are only three properties that meet the criteria!
Those properties are not far from each other, just a bit of distance from where we are!”
What do you think?
