Chapter 34: Chapter 34 Black Pearl Dinner (Seeking first order on launch~)
Jiang Yan’s window glass was double-glazed.
It was heat-insulating, cold-insulating, and bulletproof.
Besides, she had the decoration company apply a layer of the latest foreign-developed single-directional composite glass film, originally used on high-end cars, on the outside.
This film not only had excellent heat and cold insulation effects but also had a special feature, allowing her to see outside clearly.
However, for those outside, even if she didn’t draw the curtains, her room appeared entirely dark.
The privacy was exceptional.
This effectively prevented any nosy individuals from using telescopes or flying drones to “spy.”
After adjusting the telescope’s pupil distance and various parameters, Jiang Yan looked towards the group of people in the garden.
There seemed to be several officials in white shirts and black trousers talking to the property management staff.
The property manager and several supervisors were also present.
They spoke as they walked towards the underground parking garage.
Everyone wore helmets and gloves, covering every bit of exposed skin thoroughly.
Of course, their faces were as red and sweaty as freshly cooked oil-braised prawns.
Officials?
Underground parking garage?
Jiang Yan quickly went over these two terms in her mind, and then it dawned on her.
Shallow Bay had five buildings with roughly over five hundred households.
If parking spaces were constructed at a regular one-to-one ratio, there would be at least five hundred spaces.
Calculating ten square meters per small car parking space, the total underground parking garage would cover over five thousand square meters.
This didn’t even include the scattered civil defense parking spaces.
So, with such high temperatures, it was very likely that the underground parking spaces were to be temporarily requisitioned as a cooling shelter for the community.
However, most of the parking spaces had been sold, with only a few rented out.
Whether the owners were willing to relocate their cars was a big issue.
Because leaving their cars outside would not only expose them to high temperatures but also to safety risks.
But what puzzled Jiang Yan was, considering the heat, such an arrangement could have been settled with a simple official notification or a phone call.
She couldn’t understand why they needed to visit in person.
Shallow Bay was situated relatively high, and the geological structure of this area was also quite solid.
The developer of this estate was a state-owned enterprise, known for the reliable quality of their buildings.
Normally, compared to things like school districts or transportation convenience, this wasn’t considered a special advantage.
However, during the rainy season, this area could withstand much more than many other estates in the city.
Could it be that the officials had already anticipated the rainstorms following the heatwave?
After all, she had been reborn, perhaps there were also capable people among the higher levels of the government.
However, that was a question whose answer would only be revealed later.
Jiang Yan didn’t dwell on it.
The group entered the garage and didn’t emerge for a long time.
They most likely entered the buildings directly from the underground garage.
She put away the telescope and began to contemplate the most pressing issue in her life at the moment: what to eat tonight?
She had casually eaten some refreshing cold noodles in the warehouse at noon.
Tonight, she needed to indulge in a feast to satisfy her cravings.
Especially since today marked the completion of a milestone event: stocking up all necessary supplies before the disaster struck.
It was indeed a cause for celebration. @@novelbin@@
Jiang Yan thought for a moment and took out a bottle of top-tier red wine worth over seventy thousand from the Space, along with a set for one of natural crystal wine decanter and high-stemmed glasses.
To enhance the ceremonial feel, she also took out a candleholder set and a luxury table runner from her villa to set up on the dining table.
After opening the red wine, she slowly poured it into the decanter to let it breathe and then proceeded to the bathroom.
She leisurely soaked in a rose bath, got up to dry her hair, changed into a soft and cool silk nightgown, and then walked over to the dining table.
She slightly leaned forward, bringing her nose close to the decanter to take in the sweet, moist aroma of linden flowers—the wine was perfectly aerated.
Now, it was dark outside, and the temperature had terrifyingly reached fifty-eight degrees.
In the garden outside, the streetlights dimly shone, with not a single person in sight.
But she could faintly see the traces of Blood Mosquitoes.
Their size and numbers had visibly increased.
Across and in the neighboring residential buildings, every home was brightly lit.
A glance revealed individuals frantically filling up bathtubs with water, some hurriedly preparing rice and dishes while there was still electricity, water, and gas.
Some parents were furiously spanking their children with dusters, and some couples were heatedly fighting; others seemed to have elderly or children suffering from the heat and were kneeling on the ground, sobbing.
A few households, probably those who had air conditioning installed in the past two days, were facing the same situation Jiang Yan encountered in the afternoon.
However, while Jiang Yan resolved it outside her door, somewhat violently and decisively, these households, clearly unprepared, opened their doors attempting to negotiate patiently with the others.
Two households, originally already populous, could not withstand the persistent coaxing from neighboring residents and allowed them to move in.
Everyone knew about the impending power outage, so realistically, the air conditioning wouldn’t last long.
However, some still harbored hope based on the officials’ announcement: endure for a couple of days and the temperatures would drop, and utilities would resume.
Moreover, the Shallow Bay community had a backup power supply.
No matter what, it could last for two or three days.
Of course, there were also harmonious families performing their various tasks and young couples not minding the heat, all cozied up together.
All in all, life had its flavors—sweet, sour, bitter, spicy, it had it all.
But those things had nothing to do with her.
Jiang Yan briefly glanced and then quickly closed the curtains with her phone.
She had already planned the dinner menu during her bath: exclusive dishes from a certain Black Pearl Restaurant.
Peppery and tender Angus beef steak, dry shiitake mushroom sauce crystal shrimp balls, lemongrass crispy milk pigeon, garlic sauce baked lobster, broth vegetables, stewed abalone in coconut shell, tempura fritillaria, refreshing seaweed salad, and rice wine with osmanthus.
With a mere thought, four meat dishes, two vegetables, one soup, one salad, and one dessert appeared neatly on the dining table.
Although it seemed like a lot of dishes, the portion of each was actually quite small.
For instance, the crystal-clear bouncy shrimp balls, just four pieces.
The fragrant and crispy milk pigeon, two small pieces.
The crisp, tender, and refreshing seaweed, three small bites.
The richly fragrant and nicely tart rice wine, just half a small bowl.
The dishes merely occupied large, aesthetically pleasing plates.
When she ordered from these Black Pearl restaurants, five-star hotels, and time-honored restaurants, she bought the containers along with the food.
Although it was much pricier, it beautifully presented the dishes.
Being a former food blogger, not only did she demand the dishes to have complete flavor profiles, but she also had specific standards for presentation.
The Space had both preservation and warming effects, so these dishes, just like being freshly served from the restaurant, saved her the hassle of reheating them.
What do you think?
