Chapter 44: Chapter 44 Very Tempting
“Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!”
“Buzz! Buzz! Buzz!”
“…”
Jiang Yan had just crossed the street and stepped onto the shopping center territory when those dozens of ravenous Blood Mosquitoes circling above her head could no longer hold back.
One by one, they split into multiple directions, lunging at her swiftly with their elongated, sharp proboscises.
The enhancements to Jiang Yan’s physical abilities granted by Space were not limited to stamina and endurance; they also included an improved sensitivity in all five senses—vision, hearing, smell, taste, and touch.
Her hands moved with agility to both sides, raising a swatter for a series of precise home runs.
At this moment, the temperature had already soared past sixty degrees. The insulation clothes on her body were heavy, but she wasn’t even out of breath.
“Bang! Fizz!”
“Bang! Fizz!”
“Bang! Fizz!”
“…”
Sounds of mosquitos being hit by the swatter and electrocuted by the current echoed all around her.
Because the mosquitoes were so large, the electric swatter quickly ran out of power.
Fortunately, she had several fully charged ones in Space. With a mere thought, she seamlessly switched out swatters.
In less than a minute, all the electric swatters in Space lit up with red lights, and the ground around her became littered with mosquito corpses and severed limbs.
A few mosquitoes had sucked some blood earlier and, when they fell to the ground, they were a bloody mess.
The ground was so hot it could fry an egg.
The spilt blood plasma from the mosquitoes’ bodies dried up in a second, turning black before any of the surviving insects could come to feed on it.
There were still mosquitoes attacking her, but the swarm wasn’t as dense as before.
Jiang Yan, while quickly heading towards a shop she had previously identified, crazily sprayed the insect repellent that she had taken out from Space into her surroundings.
In fact, she was fully armed and tightly covered with insulation clothes, an insulated hat, combat gloves, etc. The mosquitoes couldn’t bother her in the slightest.
But the moment she heard the irritating “buzzing” sound, she felt an urge to smack them all dead.
The shop Jiang Yan chose to settle in was a high-end branded coffee shop.
It’s not clear if it was because of the use of high-quality materials, but this shop was one of the few that remained in good condition.
However, as she approached, she noticed signs of forced entry.
Nonetheless, the attempts were unsuccessful, leaving only a few metal scratches.
Standing at the entrance, she observed for a moment and confirmed that it was empty.
Looking at the bulletproof glass door secured with three U-locks, Jiang Yan looked around and conjured up an ordinary electric saw from Space.
The blade of the electric saw was thin, and its length was just right to slide through the one-finger-wide gap in the middle of the glass door.
The daylight was harsh, but she had donned sunglasses inside her insulated hat before going out, which protected her eyes from the Mars-like glare.
With the “click” of the electric saw’s switch, Jiang Yan began cutting through the locks.
As the ear-piercing “buzzing” roared on, bright sparks from cutting the metal scattered everywhere. @@novelbin@@
“Snap!”
“Snap!”
“Snap!”
The three U-locks were quickly severed, but Jiang Yan’s eardrums nearly burst.
She didn’t immediately open the door.
That’s because behind her, once again, a swarm of Blood Mosquitoes “buzzing” furiously gathered around.
After putting the electric saw back in Space, she took out two more bottles of insect repellent and desperately sprayed behind her before quickly opening and closing the door in one swift motion.
The repellent was soon swept away by the hot wind, and the incoming swarm of Blood Mosquitoes started crashing into the glass door.
Jiang Yan watched their proboscises and long legs, took a silent breath, and fetched a new U-lock from Space to quickly secure the door.
For safety’s sake, she added another lock.
After buzzing around for a while and seeing no way in, the mosquitoes, unwilling to leave, settled on the glass door, desperately staring at her with their starving guts.
Jiang Yan gave them a brief glance, nearly triggering her trypanophobia.
She chose to ignore it.
After all, there were more important things to do.
Besides, if the store’s doors were locked from the inside, there were only two possibilities: either there was a back door leading elsewhere or someone was hidden inside the shop.
For now, confirmation came first.
Taking out a sharp dagger from Space, Jiang Yan started to slowly make her way inside the shop.
The size of the shop was around two hundred square meters.
Soon, she found a side door at the back.
The side door was also made of glass, enabling a clear view of the mall’s atrium.
She then realized that many shopping center shops actually have front and back doors that lead to the street and the interior of the mall.
The lock on the side door was fastened from the outside.
It too bore signs of tampering.
This suggested that someone had evacuated from inside the mall.
It was also possible that they temporarily sought refuge in the underground supermarket or car park.
After all, underground supermarkets and parking garages are standard in such shopping centers.
Jiang Yan didn’t immediately tamper with the lock on the side door.
All she needed was a temporary place to rest before midnight.
However, entering Space just now felt too early.
She decided to walk around the store to see if she could find anything useful.
Clothing, food, and the like—she had enough to last several lifetimes.
She didn’t have much interest in searching for those items.
But as a coffee enthusiast, she felt it was necessary to look around.
Besides, the coffee from this shop was famous far and wide.
The first thing that caught her eye were two coffee cup display racks.
Ceramic, metal, glass—it was all there.
And the variety was extraordinary.
Since it was summer, the cups were designed in particularly bright and eye-catching colors.
Jiang Yan had been a cup collector since she was little.
In her own villa before, she had a whole wall to display cups from all over China and the world.
Now that she had come across them, she was naturally very excited.
Who could resist the joy of shopping for free?
The tea bar inside Space’s Apple Cabin had two beautifully crafted display racks that were still empty.
Selecting some attractive cups to set upon them would serve as perfect decoration.
With that thought, she willed all the cups from the display racks into Space.
She also collected all the beautiful cups on the racks near the order counter into Space.
A glance at the display cabinet revealed that various pastries had all spoiled.
However, a few bottles of expensive imported mineral water used for price comparison were still intact.
She went behind the counter and collected several bottles of water into Space.
With water being such a crucial resource, one can never have too much.
Even if not drinkable, it’s useful for watering plants or washing hands.
There were some napkins, cinnamon sticks, and small paper bags of sugar available at the pickup counter.
The quantity was too small to catch her interest.
With a shop of this size, there was likely to be a storeroom.
After searching around and finding no trace of the storeroom, Jiang Yan returned to the back of the order counter and pushed against the wall.
With a “creak,” a hidden door, the same color as the wall, appeared before her eyes.
What do you think?
