Apocalypse: I Built the Infinite Train

Chapter 78: The Invisible Horror

Why is KIKI here?!

Lin Xian’s eyes widened in shock.

His flashlight’s beam fell upon the white creature, which slowly lifted its head and gazed at him with an unusual expression—

A look of surprise.

A look of confusion.

Almost as if…

It was astonished that Lin Xian could see it.

Lin Xian noticed a few strands of KIKI’s hair drifting in the air—

And suddenly, realization struck.

The hair from before… was KIKI’s?

Had this creature been standing here the whole time?

Then why hadn’t he seen it before?

A chilling thought flashed through his mind.

He looked down at the silver antenna in his hand, feeling his consciousness fading fast.

“What the hell is this thing?!”

Sensing imminent danger, he raised his hand and fired a Wind Cannon at the creature.

Boom!

The creature’s head was blown apart.

A surge of black mist erupted from the wound.

The monster let out a shrill scream, desperately flapping its wings as if trying to catch the escaping black mist—

And at that moment, KIKI slipped from its grasp, collapsing onto the floor.

I hit it?!

Lin Xian was momentarily stunned but had no time to dwell on it.

Without hesitation, he lunged forward to save KIKI.

The black mist continued to spew out, expanding rapidly—

Like an inflating cloud of darkness, swallowing the entire Carriage No. 1.

Lin Xian covered his mouth and nose as he charged into the fog.

The moment he entered—

His world spun violently.

Hoo~ Hoo~

It was as if he had fallen into an endless abyss.

A crushing sense of weightlessness engulfed him.

Breaking through the mist—

Lin Xian’s eyes snapped open.

And found himself somewhere entirely different.

A Silent, Apocalyptic City

A dead city stretched beneath an overcast sky.

The urban landscape—strangely familiar yet eerily foreign—

Lay in ruin under the suffocating dark clouds.

In the distant skyline, a line of signal lights pulsed like breathing embers, flickering against the massive steel defensive walls encircling the city.

The faint glows looked like the last dying flames of humanity, radiating a solemn yet oppressive atmosphere.

Then—

Lin Xian lifted his gaze toward the sky.

And his breath hitched.

There—

A colossal humanoid corpse floated face-down in the sky.

A decayed giant, spanning over ten kilometers.

Its ashen, dried-up skin was wrinkled like a mountain range of scars.

Its hollow black eyes were void of life, exuding an unspeakable pressure as it drifted silently over the city.

A whispering chorus of eerie voices filled Lin Xian’s ears.

Slowly, he lifted his head—

And stared into the abyssal eyes of the floating corpse…

The atmosphere inside the train was incredibly tense.

Chen Sixuan, Luo Shasha, and Luo Ye stood frozen—

Their faces pale as they watched Lin Xian vanish before their eyes.

“Brother Lin disappeared?!”

Luo Shasha gasped.

Luo Ye was equally shaken—completely unable to process what had just happened.

“Ah!”

“Lin Xian?! Lin Xian?!”

Chen Sixuan frantically called out—

No response.

A living, breathing person had just vanished into thin air right in front of them.

“What the hell is happening?!”

Luo Shasha’s face was stricken with panic.

“1542 Radio… That’s it!”

“That day, when KIKI came back, she told me about it!”

Her voice trembled.

“Oh no, did Brother Lin disappear too?!”

Chen Sixuan’s face turned ghostly pale.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

A sound echoed from the floor of the train.

“Chen Sis… listen…”

Luo Shasha’s voice quivered as she stared at the floor.

“There’s… footsteps.”

Thud. Thud. Thud.

The three of them staggered backward.

The footsteps grew faster—

Moving from Carriage No. 2 toward the cockpit—

Then pausing beside KIKI’s bed.

Before turning back.

Thud. Thud.

The sound stopped at the cockpit—

Then started coming back.

“What the hell is this?!”

Chen Sixuan’s brow furrowed deeply. Her face was filled with fear.

“Could it be Brother Lin?!”

Luo Shasha waved her hand through the air—

Nothing.

“Is he invisible?! I swear, I can still feel him on the train!”

“Is this really the work of the 1542 Radio?”

"Zzzzzt…"

The radio on the couch still displayed the 1542 frequency, its speaker emitting weak static sounds.

The train fell silent.

Faintly, they could hear the sound of wind coming through the radio.

“Chen Sis… Should we turn it off?”

Luo Shasha’s voice was full of fear.

Chen Sixuan’s entire body was covered in chills.

She hesitated for only a second—

Then strode forward and shut off the radio.

But—

Even after turning it off—

The frequency numbers still glowed.

“Oh my god… it’s still on!”

Luo Shasha shrieked.

“What the hell is going on?!”

They all backed away, eyes locked on the radio.

Whoosh!

Suddenly—

The train’s lights flared up.

The engine of the Huanxing 7F Electric Locomotive roared to life.

Click. Click. Click.

The shutters dropped.

The gates opened.

Bright daylight flooded into the train—

Driving back the darkness.

Beep. Beep.

The time displayed: 16:05.

Morning had come.

Chen Sixuan’s expression shifted—

“It’s Lin Xian! He’s controlling the train!”

“He’s still on board!”

Daylight illuminated the world, yet the three of them felt no relief.

“Yes! It has to be Brother Lin!”

“But… why can’t we see him?!”

Luo Shasha reached into the air, trying to grasp something unseen—

But there was nothing.

She turned her head—

And her face drained of color.

“Look! KIKI is bleeding again!”

Chen Sixuan spun around.

Sure enough—

A fresh trickle of blood dripped from KIKI’s nose.

“Shasha, get some water!”

The three of them were completely overwhelmed.

Lin Xian was gone.

KIKI’s condition was worsening.

Tension choked the air.

Luo Shasha lifted KIKI’s eyelids—

Her pupils were almost entirely black.

Her breathing was growing weaker.

“What do we do?! KIKI’s getting worse!”

Chen Sixuan’s face twisted in worry.

“Quick! Where’s the red crystal?!”

Luo Ye turned, voice low—

“It’s gone. Lin Xian took it earlier.”

“Sh*t! That eerie blood crystal is missing!”

Luo Shasha frantically searched the couch—but found nothing.

BANG!

Suddenly—

The radio crackled again.

The frequency numbers flashed wildly—

Then faded into darkness.

The radio had turned off.

Chen Sixuan’s heart leapt into her throat.

“Something’s happening.”

She clenched her fists—

“Lin Xian is trying to tell us something.”

“We need to move—now!”
